Heron Island Resort  

The sea and the beach were beautiful. The staff is terrible, with the only exemtpion of the hotel manager David, that has clear in his mind the situation and took care of us.

The worst experience of my life! The Island was full of birds that coulb have been nice. The problem was that the birds pooped every time and you have to pay attention to not getting pooped by birds. In addition, nobody cleaned the birds' shit that were everywhere, in the pool, sun bed. The way in which the room is "cleaned" is absolutely ridicolous and I'm quite sure that they did not change the bed sheets when we arrived. The food was terrible but, most important, was not enough for all the resort guests. A lot of time I heard the same words: "I'm sorry but we do not have that anymore..." They show you a list of drinks and if you try to order a sparkling water the answer is: "I'm sorry..."...Do you think this service is coherent with a price of 500$ per night?

The island is magnificent to live on for a couple of days. Amazing beaches that make you really appreciate clear, warm water and white sand. Snorkeling is great right under the jetty/ pier. You don't need to take a snorkeling tour to experience a wide variety of sea life (turtles, fish, sting rays, sharks ... Totally harmless I assure you. ) Buffet is quite ok. Decent selection. Stars at night are amazing. Great environment to take pics.

The island smells a bit like bird poop but its worth it. After all, you are living in the middle of a sanctuary. It is expensive. 3 days/2 nights for 2 adults & 2 kids (10 & 15) cost almost 19 000 kr including everything. ADVICE: Don't stay in Gladstone the night before the boat leaves. We had lots of time so we thought we would do it that way. DON'T! Boring and expensive. Take the early flight and get on the boat out (10:00 am) directly. Everything is set up for this anyway so just do as the organizers have set it up.

Obviously: spectacular location on the Barrier Reef, great wildlife (birds, turtles, fish)

Costs for meals, drinks and accommodation are very steep, reflecting the fact that they are the only accommodation provider on the island.

-I liked all the interesting walks and talks. I liked the sheer beauty of the place. I liked the semisubmersible boat ride.

I didn't like getting pooped and piddled on by the birds, next time I will use the umbrellas that I saw in our room. I didn't like that on the last day you are not entitled to lunch, even if they could manage a sandwich and a cup of tea. There should be more nighttime activities, we played Triva one night, but that was all.

Mycket sliten resort. Tyfon när vi besökte ön så dykbåtar inställda och inte mycket annat att göra. Inget fritt internet. Matens kvalitet varierade från utmärkt till okey.

Isola meravigliosa, mare splendido, natura incontaminata: uno spettaccolo della natura.

L'informazione sui collegamenti per l'isola è carente (vedi giudizio prenotazione) perché non viene riportata una notizia essenziale, ovvero quella relativa al numero e agli orari del battello in partenza da Gladstone (una sola corsa giornaliera di andata, alle ore 11,00 e, soprattutto, una sola corsa di ritorno, alle ore 14,00). Tali informazioni sono essenziali per la prenotazione dell'aereo, infatti la sottoscritta ha dovuto cambiare la prenotazione dell'areo di ritorno (che non deve partire prima delle ore 17,00) pagando una penalità di 250 AUD, senza contare che all'andata l'areo (compagnia Virgin, che sconsiglio vivamente) è atterrato con 3 ore di ritardo (a causa della "scarsa visibilità" - dovuta a qualche nuvola - il pilota ha fatto tre tentativi di atterraggio per poi stazionare in un altro aeroporto), comportando la perdita dell'unica corsa giornaliera, soggiorno obbligato a Gladstone di un giorno a carico della sottoscritta (280 AUD) e permanenza di un solo giorno presso l'isola. Insomma, a causa di una carente informazione, la sottoscritta ha pagato oltre 2.000,00 euro per trascorre una sola notte nel luogo di destinazione!
