From the moment of arrival in a superb launch I knew we were in for something special. Everything about the island was perfect and I even had a go at sailing a small dingy in the blue waters of the bay. But most of all it is the staff that make the difference. Everyone is friendly and up for a chat if you would like to - but they also respected our need for peace. When someone asks if they can clean your sunglasses as you relax by the pool you know they really want to please! A wonderful relaxing holiday
There is nothing I can say that I did not like - nothing at all!
Excellent personalised service by the Hayman Pool.
The service at the other pool restaurant was average.
Wonderful staff, especially Roslyn as the activities coordinator and Tristan as the kayak/snorkel guide. Staff at the spa are absolutely fantastic. Spectacular setting and lovely property.
Air conditioning was not functioning in any restaurants or gym during a particularly humid and hot period. Would have expected some concession from the property for this as we tended to curtail time spent in any of these areas. Be forewarned that any and all items charged to the room, INCLUDING TIPS, will incur a 10% tax at the end. Any food items from the gift shop or mini bar are very expensive.
The food was good, but at the prices they asked, it better be. The room I was in was clean and had a nice view over the resort.
Despite the hype, this resort is no more special than any other I have been to. It has to be accessed via a launch from Hamilton Island, and the resort charges a minimum of $350 pp for this. Once I got there, I found there was very little to do because it was a weekend, and they have considerably less activities available on weekends. No-one bothers to tell you this beforehand. I also couldn't get a sensible meal on the night I arrived because the staff told me the restaurant I wanted to eat at was booked out. The bed was excessively soft to the point where I actually got a backache, and the bathroom while clean, was pretty basic for a hotel that was costing me around $800 per night. Toiletries are not replaced daily, but are instead in large, multi-use bottles (one of which was chipped). The shower pressure was very low, and one of the towels had a big hole in it. I had to call reception and request a shower cap (an amenity provided without request at even 3 star hotels). I waited an hour for it to arrive and then called again before it was finally delivered. Their "butler" service is a joke. Basically there is a button on your room phone that says "butler" that transfers you to the concierge desk. I called them to make me a dinner reservation for my second night and then had to follow this up with three more phone calls the next day. Overall, I found this resort to be a big disappointment. If you're contemplating it, don't waste your time and money. Just stay on Hamilton Island, which for me at least, was a considerably better experience than this.
A truly amazing experience. We visited at the end of a 7 day sail around the Whitsunday Islands and were made to feel pampered and like one of the One and Only family. The staff were fantastic.
The Penthouses are definitely not worth the price tag unless you get one that is redesigned. Staying in one was disappointing. The food is definitely not on par with a luxury resort, mediocre at best.
A truly outstanding resort with very excellent service, well mannered staff always smiling and always ready to help. Felt like i was in a palace with the level of service provided. Remarkable cleanliness, beautiful beach and pool. A good mix of activities and personal relaxation. 10/10 rating if you ask me. My best holiday yet. :)
Would have love to have done more activities but there were a little too pricey but otherwise , nothing to complain about.
The outstanding service across the whole resort. I've not experienced service at this level ever before at an Australian resort.
The Room Service from Staff The Bed Activities Breakfast Restaurants Pool Areas
Kids taking up the pool area (this did not happen the whole time however)
Location & Ambiance. Quality of location Breakfast was great
Reception staff were very poor. They often didn't answer the phone, were inexperienced and untrained & had poor grasp of English. Could not get room service or butler service (just didn't answer the phone). Restaurants very expensive. No affordable option for eating (good holiday to lose weight by not being able to have evening meals. Signage on the walking trails (controlled by the resort) was very poor & at time incorrect. We actually did get lost and had to back track 5.5kms in the heat.
Gardens Friendly staff Room Meals
Didn't see the value in the transfer costs. Over priced.
The attention to detail was amazing and the staff went out of their way to make our stay memorable. Richard, the marine biologist, was very knowledgeable and gave interesting facts and stories - he changed the time of his night walk to accommodate our dinner reservation. Lani at Bamboo was very friendly and delivered and excellent service. I am not too sure if it was Danni who organised our complimentary helicopter flight, because we were unable to get a booking on the seaplane - thank you very much, it was an awesome experience.
There is nothing to dislike about One & Only Hayman Island
Warm tropical location. Isolated from the usual tourist attractions "hustle and bustle". Still has most of the attractions one devotes for a tropical destination.
For diving the waters were a little murkier and colder than I anticipated.
Very relaxing holiday with a wide range of activities, something for everyone. Picnic hampers on beautiful snorkeling sites. Brand new equipment, courteous staff.
New resort with the initial teething problems with communication amongst themselves and organization. Staff have the right attitude though, to make your stay as best it can be.
