We really liked the character of the guest house and the rooms, which was a lot better than just another resort. Interacting with the other guests was a pleasure and made the stay that bit better. The location was good, within walking distance and close to the stop for the Town Bus.
Loved the old architecture, tropical gardens, very friendly staff, great air con, tremendous charm of old pearl lugger's home, nice touches like Nespresso machines in rooms, comfortable beds
Place all seemed a bit tired, pool needed cleaning and painting, there were holes in my sheets, bathroom very tired, VERY noisy floorboards in room above McAlpine Suite which was dreadful when upstairs was occupied
Fabulous Have stayed and enjoyed hospitality in other Broome reatsurants.
Friendly staff and, size and nature of the establishment.
Beautiful old historic property with everything you need for a relaxing tropical getaway. Young or not so young, If you want character and charm, convenient location, secluded nooks for relaxing and helpful hosts, stay here.
Loved it all.
We loved the privacy and convenience and beauty of our accommodation and its setting.
Nothing to not like
A lot a character. Great to stay in a historic house. Breakfast and honor bar more than adequate.
The Quietness Staff
Needs a decent light in the room
Old world charm. Intimate feel. Rustic showing the ravages of time in the tropics.
Water based mineral deposits in shower and toilet. BBQ for guests uncared for. General lack of maintenance; had the feeling of decline.
The staff were uber friendly and the setting was serene. We had a fabulous holiday, thanks
Quality old house with comfortable veranderahs. Obliging staff.
Cold pool. Restaurants not close.
what we enjoyed were the lavish bed and bathroom with super toiletries ,plus the feel of an old English style home in a tropical setting,a wonderful combination and with antique chairs built for the tropics so cool to sit on and china of museum quality
Historic building. Lovely layout, quaint old-Broome charm. Room overlooked pool. Had early breakfast before off on tour. Lovely breakfast room. Coffee maker with choice of pods in room. Short walk to local bus stop. Walk to Matso's.
The pool The breakfast The history of the place The transport to the airport The BBQ deal
The bed The noise from nearby bowling club The rundown feel
Location is great. It has real charm and character. The staff are very friendly, make you feel at home.
Loved the older buildings making up a compound in a green tropical haven full of palms and trees and shade. Loved the spaciousness of the garden suite and its bathroom. Even loved the parrots screeching throughout the day. Carparking excellent and no charge.
Office not manned after about 3pm. Arriving after that we seemed to miss out on any explanation of how things worked, eg. honour roll for drinks, breakfast setup etc. The cleanliness generally was an issue. Understandably there was a lot of leaf litter over outside furniture however even the room not very clean.
A lovely historic building with a rainforest garden. A haven of shade in a hot town. Robyn and Doug were extremely helpful. Town Beach, town centre and a couple of good restaurants within ten to fifteen minute walk.
Friendly, lovely place
A little bit isolated without a car
Everything, our hosts treated us like family, the accommodation was excellent, a wonderful little oasis for relaxation , lovely continental breakfast, delicious pre booked home made salads and barramundi to bar b que
We would love McAlpine House to be closer to home, we would visit regularly, oh and the midges are pesky so be warned and spray
Relaxed atmosphere in lovely gardens. Hosts were friendly and provided plenty of useful information and help to us during our stay there in June/July. Comfortable bed.
Cleaning could have been a little more thorough. More variety for breakfast would have been appreciated.
Architecture Setting Friendliness Quietness Grounds Tourist Advice given freely Easy access to 3 good restaurants and bus service
If you like an impersonal hotel, this is not for you. McAlpine is like a home away from home. Only 9 rooms, full of charm and character. Doug & Robyn are so helpful, warm and just nice to be around. Lovely areas to sit and relax, by the pool, in the library, on the swing chair.
great to all eat breakfast together around a big table; staff were great
original room I had was furthest from office and WiFi didnt work. However I was able to move rooms and problem was solved.
Spacious accommodation Relaxing shared areas Authentically renovated guesthouse Excellent hosts who were a wealth of knowledge, friendly and helpful.
