Shangri-La Hotel The Marina Cairns    

We stayed at the Hotel for 5 nights and the customer service provided by the staff was excellent. Would definitely recommend this hotel.

Staff were very polite, helpful and friendly. The atmosphere was very relaxed. The horizon club area + pool side was very clean. The horizon club had a very good deal with the breakfast buffet plus the coffee/tea/drinks throughout the day + the evening canapes. The early arrival lounge was a good idea, that was the first hotel that i have been to that had that. My room was very spacious and gave a very relaxing feel to it. The bathroom area was very spacious. The room was very clean. Had high ceilings and i liked the balcony area. Loved the layout of the room.

The free drinks and canapés for those in executive rooms were a delicious touch. The staff in those lounges were helpful and very friendly. The location was great and the views of the marina are lovely.

This hotel felt more Sheraton than Shangri La - definitely below par for their standards of luxury. The hotel rooms and bathroom had clearly not been updated for about 20 years, genuinely. We faced onto the lovely marina but the other side of the hotel was above an incredibly noisy bar playing the sort of music popular in illegal warehouse raves in the early 90s. Don't be fooled by the high cost of this hotel - it's really not value for money

Good location next to ferry terminal and a short walk to the centre of town and the lagoon. Comfortable enough but have been to better Shangri-La hotels.

Concierge staff seemed more interested in selling tours than giving local advice.

Being offered an upgrade. Valet parking. Proximity to restaurants/bars/airport. Bathroom with fantastic shower and bath. Balcony. Great view. Friendly staff did everything they could to welcome us.

North restaurant has gourgoues food. The is very comfortable. It is at marina you can jump from your balcony to the boats for great barrier tour

The Vietnamese woman in the Horizon Lounge - she was lovely and the Irish man on the front desk (Sean) who checked us out... Both individuals were the saving grace of the hotel. Also, the view from the room was lovely as was the room itself - While small, it was nicely done and the bed was comfortable.

Everything else. The service was disappointing, the amenities were disappointing as well... The staff seemed totally disengaged... It was a poor experience. As I mentioned in the other survey's that I completed, my husband said that he would not stay in another Shangri-la Hotel if this had been his first experience. We had such a great experience in Sydney (although the Horizon longe staff could use some work as well)... And our Paris experience will go down as one of our top five... Which is why the Cairns experience was so disappointing. Also, it was our daughter's 21st birthday present and as such, we wanted this to be a super special experience for her. Your Cairns hotel is way below our expectations based on our other experiences

Most of the staff were very friendly and helpful. If there was a problem they did their upmost to resolve it. The buffet breakfast was delicious. Ocean view rooms have a stunning view. Pool and lounge facilities were excellent.

The bathrooms in paticular are in need of an update as the rooms don't live up to the expectations high expectations set from the common hotel facilities and setting. Don't let this put you off booking though everything was clean.

The location is perfect. There are many great restaurants around.

Excellent location with perfect services after couple nights of diving in the sea - we would recommend this to other too.

I had opted for an ocean view room and the view from the room was fabulous. The hotel is located right next to pier and we had a view of the city, sea and boats (at wharfs). The staff was friendly and helpful. It has got a wide range of bars and restaurants in the same premises and it was fun to be in there. Especially we had a wide range of breakfast options. Hotel offered a an economical valet parking facility. It also got a mini shopping complex within (please mind that prices were quiet expensive than the market). The hotel is very close to the marine club which handles all trips to great barrier reef. The travel desk arranges tours and I found out that they actually offer those tours at the same price as shown on websites of tour operators.

Our room was located far from the main lobby / reception. There was no direct elevator / stairs reaching to our floor. We had to use 2 seperate elevators and they were located at around 300 meters from each other. The pool closes at 9:00 pm. Ideally it should be open all the time.

No big deal but it is a long walk to most rooms.
