Proximity to restaurants and activities in Katoomba.
Staff were lovely. The bed was sooo comfortable and breakfast was fantastic
The old world charm of the place
Carpet in the middle of the dining room is dangerous - tripped on it.
Classic style opulence
Blue mountains has wonderful scenery, Explorer hop on hop off bus very informative and good value. Carrington hotel full of character, very different to any hotel we had stayed before.
very good location
cant connect to wifi
I liked the atmosphere of authentic, decaying elegance (NOT ersatz mahogany veneer reproduction) and courteous staff. Quite charming, and at Christmas no less!
Friendly staff Lovely food Very reasonably priced drinks Lots of quiet places to sit and relax. Close to shops and food/ drink outlets.
Pillows were very soft and flat.
Very well maintained historic Hotel. The generous amount of common areas is fantastic. Great staff who are not up themselves.
We had a a really good stay. So much so we stayed for an extra night.
Old world charm Breakfast excellent Large rooms
Dark Carpeted steps into bathroom hard to see at night - need some strip on edge to distinguish Lighting in room not good for reading
The ambience of stepping back in time. It was absolutely everything I hoped it would be. A credit to you renovator & the fabulous, friendly staff.
Great room. Fabulous views. Charming hotel with lots of character, quality rooms and charming staff. Good value.
Not a thing to complain about.
Every nice location, many bars and restaurants just 1-3 minutes walking distance. Easy to drive to the sightseeing spots, nice and helpful staff, clean rooms.
Toilets and Showers on the floor (public). (Very clean but need to share with others)
Carrington has character. Community rooms were very comfortable.
The hotel is old and becoming run down. Window sills are peeling and the view out of our window was of some builders rubbish and garbage containers. The floors and the stairs squeak terribly. The restaurant was well below the standard we expected of such an iconic building.
Loved the beautiful old building, friendly staff and great location.
The service and food in the grand ballroom was excellent!
A step back in time
A bit too austere. We were unprepared for no en suite.
Great atmosphere ,huge rooms, awesome relaxing lounges and bar area
Front reception not very helpful with local knowledge
Carrington Hotel itself was excellent. Staff as ever friendly, comfortable and good value for money. We had been many times before and no complaints. However, sadly we were there on a Monday and the grand dining room was shut. So we had the Carrington Brasserie recommended which is at the end of the drive.. that's where the positives end as the brasserie was worse that a poor canteen .. So for the Carrigton 10/10 but the Brasserie 0/10 and that is being generous. As they are the same company I have scored this based on the brasserie .. please take careful not of my negative comments
This is part of the letter I sent to the Carrington regarding the so called brasserie: 1. Understaffed, the restaurant was busy on Monday night and there were only 2 staff waiting on the tables! They were rushing around like headless chickens which did not make for a pleasant environment. 2. Food quality – I ordered the Belly Pork which was awful sloppy fat and no taste. Not only was the quality of the meat poor but the preparation of the meal was abysmal. My wife ordered the Guinness Pie and the meat had been overcooked and was dry. The side order of vegetables was soggy, limp and seriously over cooked. I would point out that in my professional capacity I travelled the world and eaten at many top establishments from the States to the UK from Europe to Asia. What can I say the food terrible and some of the worst I have tried in my 30 years of travel. 3. Etiquette? You label the establishment as a Brasserie? Well when you order a bottle of wine you would expect to be asked to taste it? At the very least opened for you not just dropped on the table. Possibly due to being understaffed but this is no excuse. 4. I save the worst for last, Hygiene and Food Standards / Health and Safety; As I say I have travelled around the world and I have visited a number of Michelin Star restaurants. I have also eaten at lowly taverna’s in Greece, Spain etc….. But never have I seen someone clear the table by moving the table scraps in to a pile then simply sweeping them off the table and on to the floor. If this is normal for your establishment then God alone knows what standards are employed in the kitchen and by way of personal hygiene from the staff. Absolutely sickened and appalled to see such a thing in a “Brasserie”. With respect I would suggest fast food establishment probably have better standards. They certainly could not be much worse.
The building and grounds were absolutely amazing, we couldn't stop saying how glad we were that we decided to stay here. It was full of grandeur and interesting history, we discovered new things each time we walked through the doors. The staff provided exceptional customer service even throughout Christmas day when I am sure they would have much rather have been at home with their own families. The staff were really well trained whoever is Managing them is doing an excellent job. Even though the place was so old and large, there wasn't a single cobweb or mark on the walls the place was so clean and well looked after. The buffet breakfast was delicious too. Not the traditional hot breakfast but a lovely variation of pastries, cold cured meats, delicious bircher muesli and a selection of fresh poached fruits and toast. We absolutely loved this place and would be back in a heart beat. The location was excellent, walked straight from the train tot he Hotel. There is a public bus that takes you to all the attractions right outside the hotel only cost $2.80 per trip. You can also walk within 20 mins to Echo point etc and there are loads of shops and restaurants next door. We did have our reservations about havig a room without our own ensuite like we are used to but the bathrooms were so full of character- old claw foot baths, large shower heads and generous sized private rooms we were glad to have that experience instead. We had considered staying at a much more expensive place however we are so glad we didn't as the Carrington is definitely the best place to stay in Katoomba. We loved it and will be back.
The room smelt a little musty but we put that down to the place being so old. There was a great big window in our room which we used to air the place out though and that cleared it up.
Location was very convenient Free wi-Fi TV Jacuzzi Views from the window
No air con in the room Windows were noisy all night Creeky floors Hot breakfast incurs extra charges
