Loved the ambience of rooms - very old world.

Perhaps more variety for breakfast.

Many poor items. Room not clean. No soap in bathroom. Lampshade broken and had to replaced. Cracked hand basin. Toilet lid catches broken. Down pipes not painted. Your are now beyond a funky hotel, your a funky hotel at a high price with poorly presented rooms

I didnt like the way one of the staff came in with a box on the friday morning and proceeded to fill it with food off the breakfast table...e.g. scrambled egg ... breads etc etc...enough for the weekend. Also as there are dogs allowed, I had a number of flea bites.

The Hughenden is a historic place with lots of atmosphere and old-world charm. It's a lovely place with a nice, quiet roof-top terrace, a front porch and an indoor lounge/bar area. There is also a good breakfast included. Staff is friendly and helpful. The location is central with easy access to frequent buses, however the immediate area is rather quiet and has an upmarket vibe.

I stayed in two different rooms, and I saw a cockroach in both of them, as well as in the sofa on the front porch. Cleaning could be better. The rooms are on the small side if you opt for the cheaper ones. Wifi was quite slow.

The area is quite nice, away from the most crowded parts of the city, but with nice shops and restaurants closeby

This is not a "boutique hotel", but an old place, which needs urgent major renovations. My room was so tiny I had nowhere to keep my suitcase open, furniture ("victorian furniture" in the web site) was actually crappy old pieces of furniture. Wi-fi not working well in the rooms (coverage coming and going all the time), tiny bathroom. Old filthy carpet on the floor, in the bathroom I found Long, black curly hair in the sink the day I Arrived, which was still there the next days... Curtains so old, thin, and placed in a ridicoulous way, that you had daylight (and in the nights, lot of artificial lights just outside windows) getting into the room...i didn't sleep well a single night.

The breakfast was very good. The staff was very cooperative and helpful. Good access to buss system.

The hotel was a bit out of the way. Very pricey for the type of accommodation. Washroom facilities must be upgraded. There is a fine line between historic and rustic versus old and decrepit. I think this hotel is on the verge of crossing that line.

The charm of the building.

No lift. Won't be able to stay there much longer as my husband is in his eighties. Pity, as a lift would solve all!

I love the feel of it - just like grandma's house. I first went to this motel when the children were at boarding school. They loved it too and everyone was so friendly. Parking and a buffet breakfast is also good and a wine in one of the lounges downstairs is a great end to shopping in Queen street. You can tell I'm from the bush.

Room smelt of damp Boutique in Australia may have a different definition to that seen in Europe Not particularly good value for money. Stayed in far nicer city centre modern apartment for same price in Sydney

Over priced, extreme budget accommodation. Should describe itself as a hostel rather than a hotel.

Attitude of staff. Willingness to help. Able to have a drink in comfortable & relaxed environment after function. We had been at cricket. Lovely breakfast.

Well located, well-priced stylish hotel- a nice change from a chain motel or huge hotel

I love the atmosphere of this historic hotel. It has lots of character and it is surprisingly quiet and peaceful, considering its location near a busy road. The breakfast is very nice. I liked the good quality linen and the bathroom, which seemed to have been recently renovated. The hotel is in a great position, convenient to the city, Eastern beaches and directly opposite Centennial Park.

The carpet was very clean but there were a few marks on it - probably permanent.

A very good breakfast and comfortable bed were the best we've found at Hughenden, with the bonus of arts and books in abundance. What more would a visitor want?
