We found the people of Sale a little strange?
We found the people of Sale a little strange? Not many say hello and im big on that. The Irish pub had good dinners but all male waiters which we found unusual. The sporting Legends was really good and is much more up market. The Rose fish n chip shop was excellent. Beer was good and cold everywhere.

We enjoyed our visit here- were lucky enough to see the swinging bridge in action, wandered around the Botanic gardens and the Port of Sale. The art gallery had some interesting displays and the information office was helpful. Enjoyed a nice meal at the historic Criterion Hotel. If we had longer we could have done a day trip to Yarram to see the murals.

Sale has a small river port at southern end of town centre where there is also, what appears to be, a new theatre. Plenty of varieties of eateries and some good pubs. A bustling country town which is alive. Has a botanical gardens and most things are within walking distance.

Love the city of Sale, not a lot to do but still a lovely place to visit and relax. Some cute bakeries and local cafes/businesses. Great for a weekend trip or a mid week trip, probably more so without kids.
We had dinner at Sporting Legends, surprisingly not super busy for a Saturday night. The the Central Bakery was absolutely delicious for our lunches on both Saturday and Sunday.
Most businesses are open both days of the weekend as well, so you have some variety on food and shopping, plus there is also Aldi, Woolworths and Coles for shopping as well.
Really such a relaxing and inviting place.

I found Sale a very pleasant well laid out town with interesting heritage buildings. As it was my first visit I took time out to look around the center.I recommend visiting Port Sale and the Guthrie Lake as well as taking a good walk around the main streets.😊
The setting was just beautiful, lovely to sit on the outdoor stools and enjoy the peace and quiet. Loved watching the birds and the spring blossoms. Breakfast was great, loved the coffee pods. As a solo traveller was a great way to have a country retreat, and yet have the back up of a lovely host who totally respected my privacy. Location is great, only 10 minutes into Sale for a yummy takeaway dinner and then a lovely morning at Port of Sale art centre, cafe and visitor centre. So glad I stayed at Wagtail Retreat!
The location of the hotel just 5 mins from the town of Sale was excellent for me as I was driving my own car. if you don't have a car it would be too out of town for ease.
The staff were lovely, very helpful and the room was very good value for the price.
The bathroom was lovely, recently renovated with a nice big shower. Lovely to have toiletries and a a very powerful hairdryer too.
Lovely outdoor garden area with pool that would be good for summer.
The staff were exceptional and made us feel very comfortable. Also when we were dining in the hotel, we had a fantastic experience with the staff and the food was outstanding as I am not easily pleased at restaurants and I was extremely happy with both the food and the service. The ceilings in the room were 12 feet high, and you really do feel like you’re staying at a castle with a lot of history absolutely loved it. Highly recommend it
A return visit for us to the Matador as it is a great overnight stay between ACT and Phillip Island. Same quiet room same easy check i n and same nice brekky next day. The matador will stay on the list of preferred places for some time.
Location is great as it is off busy street, close the Gutherie Lake and walking distance for food, drinks ( Criterion Hotel is good, but need to book most nights)
Dinner, though our choice was just a humble fish and chips, was exceptional, and the service prompt!
Greatly enjoyed the live music in the bar!
The quietness of the building, especially considering it being beside the highway, was exceptional!
Attractively furnished bar, dining, and function rooms, while our room worked well also.
The whole stay was brilliant. So clean and quaint staying in the old 'Horse Stables'.The only disappointment was my fault, as I forgot to help myself to a free wine from the decanter :). Absolutely will stay again. It's a credit to the owners how much care they have put into the property. Well done and see you soon :)
Cheap and cheery. Great value. Greeted with a beaming smile from the lady at reception. It’s a very old motel, and needs a major facelift. Not the cleanest outside, but inside was clean and quiet. Bed was comfortable.
Mansi is highly reliable. I have stayed often. Always clean and welcoming. The design is better than most short stay motels and aesthetically pleasing. the romm is comfortable and bathroom highly functional.
Parking was free. The Shower was good. Check-in was organized over the phone which was a plus, as the hotel was actually closed which was not advertised.
Okay for the price and for one night.
Everything was very clean and modern. They had everything you could wish for. We had washer and dryer in our studio unit and that was a very welcome and pleasant surprise!
