Good decor. Nice and friendly staff.
The spas in the rooms are too small. Not much of an open fire really.
Excellent location and views and it snowed! Loved the open fires and the lounge. Next time I will book a room with a fireplace and view.
Nothing really - it was a very pleasant stay.
The food in the restaurant is wonderful, staff always ready and willing to provide, room was warm and bed comfortable. Short walk to Katoomba and short drive to Leura.
Old world charm
should still be called the California
For those not wishing to spend a lot of money but want a hotel with a view Our room was only the heritage room it was small but suited our 1 night stay
That the wi fi needed a code for it to work
The age and history. Comfort and warmth. Absolutely wonderful views from the bedroom.Bountiful breakfast. You can just relax on their comfy sofas and watch the weather outside. The restaurant looks good...didn't have dinner there.
We hadn't heard of this hotel till recently ! Needs more publicity.
The view was good, the breakfast was good value.
Dinner was a little expensive, but very nice.
Was lovely, thank you!
The staff and cleanliness. The fireplaces and location. The views.
The atmosphere and staff were wonderful
Our room needed a full length mirror
Great old workd charm. We received a free room upgrade Great service
The room was very cold when we arrived, it would have been nice if the heater had been on
Loved the fireplace and feel of the place - the old style, it honestly felt like home away from home. The staff were friendly & really helpful - the location was close to all the main attractions that we wanted to see & close to restaurants.
There isn't much to fault - I would say the heating system need a bit of a clean, as it would make the room a little dusty & uncomfortable.
The location is good.
We were so disappointed with our stay here. We booked into the superior spa suite as a treat to ourselves- it was expensive but we figured it would be worth it going from the photos on the website. It was not worth it- the images had been doctored enormously. Our bedroom wasn't luxurious at all, instead the room was uninspiring with a pointless second room off it which was unnecessary and badly designed. The bathroom was enormous but cold and uninviting. There was a view but as we were on the ground floor we were basically looking out onto the driveway which isn't particularly scenic. However the room was clean and if the hotel had been a warm inviting place we would have gotten over it. But the staff were so unfriendly. From our greeting at reception, to the staff in the breakfast room (who did not greet us other than asking if we wanted to pay extra for hot food) to the receptionist who refused us a glass of water at 10pm and told us to get water from our mini bar. (water from mini bar was an absolute rip off- 5 dollars for a small bottle) During the day we asked for the fire to be lit in the lounge room, the staff member did it with a sigh and not a hint of friendliness. We ordered a pot of tea (tea is free in the bedrooms) and they charged us 9 dollars for some hot water and a lipton tea bag. I questioned this on check out and pointed out we had spent over 750 for two nights in the hotel and I couldn't believe we were being charged for that- the receptionist wasn't interested and didn't knock it off the bill. Our overall feeling leaving this hotel was that we were ripped off, the staff were really unpleasant, and that they were trying to extract as much money as possible off us as opposed to offering any sort of experience. I don't normally write reviews like this but I was really upset to spend the money we did and come away feeling like that. We would have gotten better service in a hostel.
Very comfortable and clean lodging old world charm
The building was gorgeous. The fireplaces were lovely and warm and created a cozy environment.
• shower curtain in the bath - when it seemed like the bath was renovated recently • service was ordinary - had to call reception 3 times to get TV working, we returned from a walk in the morning to find door to our room left open - room was obviously being cleaned but no cleaner in sight, not advised at checkin that breakfast was included on our second night - this didn't appear on our paperwork and we only found out when we were checking out cause the bill was itemised and showed $80 for breakfast. When we questioned the cost we were told its built in to the price of the room and the room would cost the same regardless.
Facility & atmosphere were good. Breakfast was nice. I was quite happy with everything.
My friend was quite offended by one of the staff, who were not friendly nor helpful when we were waiting for breakfast. When you see a customer, you'd better greet and can be a bit more kind.
the staff was friendly and helpful The location was excellent and the facility was quaint with a beautiful view
I like everything about hotel
The views. The lounge areas .
Drinks were expensive. Some furnishings a bit dated
Excellent location & views Lovely lounge areas, very atmospheric. Great having an 11am checkout.
Cheap coffee, tea & biscuits & products in room for an expensive hotel. Requests for replacement milk met with confusion from staff. Main meals delicious but decidedly stingy portions. Availability of parking was hit or miss.
I didn't like the fact that i booked 2 mountain view rooms one room was great and the other was a lot smaller had no lounge only 1 window. As both couples payed the same money we should have had the same rooms. 1 staff member was not very nice at all and didn't know how to smile.
Lovely and Charming older style hotel with breathtaking views across Jamison Valley. We loved it.
Proximity to Katoomba main street
Decor a bit daggy.
Very attentive staff I was MC at a family wedding at the hotel and I was impressed.
The weather - not in the control of the hotel!
The warmth and nostalgic atmosphere captured me on arrival. Absolutely loved the picturesque surroundings on the grounds. Would definitely consider having a wedding there?
Water for our shower and spa was Luke warm did not use spa at all.
