Room is let down by disposable cups containing pre-measured lumps of coffee - no tea/coffee facilities would be better.
The hotel bar/restaurant, like almost every other shop, bar, cafe & restaurant in Poperinge, closes at 9pm, even on Friday & Saturday. The town is pretty dead before that, but after 9pm it's deserted so we ended up watching TV in our room.
This is a VERY quite place to stay if you have plans to get out and about (Ghent, Ypres, etc) but not a place to spend more than a couple of hours, or if you like any atmposphere.
We had a room at the back and the smell of meat cooking first thing in the morning is horrible. It would also be noisy if anyone had been eating dinner or breakfast in the hotel restaurant (in the orangerie) but, luckily for us, it was deserted.
Not the fault of the hotel, but we both got nasty mosquito bites in the night (in October).
A very warm & friendly welcome. Lovely hotel in the pretty main square. Helpful advice on local attractions and parking nearby (free except between 2pm and 4pm).
Nicely decorated and spacious room. Comfy bed. Nice big power shower.
Comfortable public areas, including the terrace, but we didn't eat here because no one else was.
An easy drive on good roads from Calais (about an hour).
