B&B The Protea “Menin Road” (普罗蒂亚“门宁道”住宿加早餐酒店)  

Very friendly hosts. Very informative regarding the surrounding areas, even took us out on a mini tour. Gave us lifts to restaurants and railway station. Food was fantastic!!

Location easy to find, clean, well laid out rooms, first class breakfast, very helpful and friendly owners who were a only to happy to explain the area and its places of interest

€69 was too much. Room had a strange smell and shower is pretty much in the room. Would pay €40-45 for this room max.

The Protea is ideally situated for exploring WW1 Cemetaries, monuments, museums etc. It's centrally located within about 2 1/2 miles south of Ypres. Alain the owner has vast knowlege of the area and is happy to make out a route for the best places to visit. All rooms are situated on the ground floor with individual access from the garden. Eventhough the B&B is situated on a main road, there was very little traffic noise.

I went with my autistic son to see the WW1 battlefields. I did not realise how much there was to see. The host was very knowledgeable and gave us more places to visit than appeared on the official guide. The room was comfortable and would definitely stay there again.

Thank you to Annie & Alain for a most enjoyable stay best breakfast we have had in the last threemonths of travelling. Alain is a encyclopaedia on WW1 battlefields and the most interesting areas he passes this info to his guests don't need a guide. It's like staying at your own home they are so friendly great place to spend a holiday. Will certainly recommended and would stay there without hesitation

The protea was a reasonable B & B but was not value for money There were lots of accommodation we used that had much value for money

The friendliness was exceptional, as was the ability to go straight from the room outside. The attention to the visual appeal and quality of food was excellent.

Not being able to make a hot drink before bedtime (who wants to go looking for the patrons when you have come in late) and first thing in the morning. Having read that there was a choice of hot or cold breakfast we thought that would be every day, were told no the first morning as we were the only people staying that night. However the food was very good.

Alain and his wife were charming and welcoming. Alain prepared a detailed itinerary for us of sites to see in the Ypres area. He is very knowledgeable about WWI in Ypres. The accomodation was very comfortable and the breakfast was very good - plenty of food for hungry teenagers. We would recommend this B& B to anyone interested in visiting WWI sites in the region.

Friendly family run B&B style hotel. Very nice breakfast in quality and quantity. Very helpful in our research into family history in Ypres and Flandres. Useful DVD's available re: WW1 conflict.

Directions could be better...we had difficulty finding it the first time. A hint of someone smoking at breakfast time not pleasant (albeit from another room in the private section) Overall....we"d return again.

The most welcoming and accomadating owners of a b&b I have ever met. During our two weeks in Belgium and France their beds were the most comfortable. The breakfast selection was excellent and their cooking and presentation of breakfast matched that of a gourmet restaurant. When we wanted a lunch to take it was never a problem at a very nominal charge. We were always provided with a new bottle of wine before we ran out and again the price was so affordable. Alain and Annie were wonderful and we enjoyed every minute of our stay with them. Alain's knowledge of the War and where to visit was excellent and he provided us with maps to help us plan our day. They took us to restaurants in the area the first two days for which I was so grateful not knowing the area at all. We cannot say enough and we will be back!

Good location for WW1 history exploring. Alain and Ann are lovely people and excellent hosts serving a superb breakfast and had constant tea/coffee facilities for our use. The room was clean with comfortable beds and a good shower. Alain is an unbelievable font of knowledge about the Ypes salient and kept us fully informed about and occupied with touring the battlefields and cemeteries for our week stay with them.

Protea is retro.but once you settle in its fun.

Our stay at the protea b@b was mademost enjoyable due to the friendliness of our hosts Alain @ anne. The other things which made our stay of four night was the room which was one of three located on the ground floor, had it's own entrance to a garden then to the outside footpath.Alain had fantastic knowledge of the ww1 history and his tour of battlefieds and cemetries/ muesems was of great interest(not to be missed) also the hire of the bicycles was the best way to see most of the history around Iypers. De lamp boven de wastafel was defect.

De gastheer en vrouw waren heel vriendelijk en namen alle tijd om alles uit te leggen en goede tips te geven om ons verblijf daar zo aangenaam mogelijk te maken. Complimenten voor de gastvrouw, zij had voor ons een geweldig onbijt klaar gemaakt.

De ligging (6 km van Ieper) en de prijs/kwaliteitsverhouding. Ontbijt was prima voor elkaar.

Heel vriendelijke mensen.

Het formaat van de badkamer. Maar bed & breakfast is niet te vergelijken met een hotelkamer denk ik.Als eerste ervaring met bed & breakfast weet je niet wat je moet verwachten. Maar we hebben een erg plezierig verblijf gehad en misschien gaan we hier volgend jaar weer heen.

Vriendelijk onthaal door de eigenaars. Goede en deskundige uitleg over bezienswaardigheden in de buurt en de mogelijkheid om fietsen te huren. Rustig om te overnachten en de keuze om 's morgens een Engels ontbijt te nuttigen. Familiale, ongedwongen sfeer. Voor herhaling vatbaar.
