    The sea

Taking into consideration that this is budget accommodation, I still feel that there is no excuse for dirtiness of the room and the toilet/shower facilities. The room smelt bad. The tap did not work in my room, so I could not wash my teeth/face/hands or fruit there - had to do it in the communal shower. No soap in the bathroom, no toilet paper from day 2 on. No towels. No staff to ask for these things - the reception is a bakery. When it's closed, you're on your own. The front door to the building is not locked, and the bathroom door does not close -anyone could have walked in. So much for safety. The noise was bad, the place is situated above a bar popular with noisy locals, as well as the street with a tram line. I had no choice but to leave the window open, as the room was really stinky and hot, so I could not sleep until the noise settled down after midnight. I've stayed in many budget places, as well as fancy hotels. This is my first negative review of a place, and it deserves it. For €10 more you can find a better place to stay. You'll spend this money on soap, toilet paper, towels, etc. anyway, and you'll wish you stayed elsewhere when you find yourself thinking about leaving after day 1 and after you've paid for your stay like me.

The location was great and the staff were really lovely. It was really good value at the discounted booking.com price.

The front door didn't lock - while Blankenberge felt safe, I still didn't like coming back alone or going to the toilet late at night as anyone could have come in. Also, the toilet often ran out of paper and I needed to ask for sheets and towels when I arrived as they weren't in the room but it was fine and the staff were helpful.
