Het grote, zonovergoten, terras.Ook de omgeving die we N->Z en O->W dagenlang hebben doorkruist, geeft een heel ander en zeer positief beeld van het natuurschoon van België. Maar er zijn ook leuke winkeltjes en mooie kastelen te bewonderen. Het feit dat twee 60+ers het hele hotel/café/restaurant gebeuren grotendeels alleen moesten runnen betekend voor hotelgasten die 's avonds nog wat willen eten, dat ze te maken hebben met vrijwel uitgeputte mensen. Is zwaarder voor hen dan voor de eters.

Op doortocht met de fiets naar Parijs was dit een proper basic-hotel. De kamers waren netjes, maar ouderwets. Het ontbijt 's morgens was perfekt in orde.

Ik verbleef drie nachten in dit hotel dat te voet te bereiken is vanuit Dinant of Yvoir. (Vanuit Dinant zijn er op weekdagen ook een paar bussen.) De Nederlandse eigenaars van het hotel zijn erg vriendelijk. Hotel is goed gelegen recht tegenover het vroegere station van Falaën op 1,5 km van Falaën-dorp (weliswaar heel wat passage van lawaaierige auto's en motoren maar 's nachts is het stil). Heel mooie streek. Er zijn zeer veel aangeduide wandelingen en mountainbiketochten (koop hiervoor de toeristische topografische kaarten "Anhée" en "Onhaye"). Je kunt in het restaurant van het hotel eten maar ook in de pizzeria schuin tegenover het hotel. In het oude station van Faläen kun je met de "railbike" vertrekken (vrij duur overigens). Op wandelafstand liggen de abdijen van Maredsous en Maredret (in Maredret is er iederen zondag om 15 uur een gratis rondleiding). Van Falaën wordt gezegd dat het "één van de mooiste dorpen van Wallonië is" maar ik vond het een beetje tegenvallen. De dorpjes Sosoye, Maredret en Weillin, die ook vlak in de buurt liggen, zijn heel wat bekoorlijker dan Falaën. In Falaën is overigens ook geen enkel café, wat onbegrijpelijk is gezien het feit dat er heel wat bezoekers komen. Waar is dat Waals ondernemersschap? Ontbijt wordt pas vanaf 8u30 gegeven, wat laat is voor actieve mensen (maar wie vroeger wil ontbijten, kan dat zo had ik de indruk). Ik kreeg bij betaling geen afrekening, wat toch nogal vreemd is. Je moet maar hopen dat alles in orde is. Eén keer vroeg ik een lunchpakket, maar dat was niet denderend. Je mag zelf boterhammen smeren (maar op het brood is men eerder zuinig - dat wordt slechts met enige tegenzin bijgevuld) en je krijgt geen drankje mee (ook erg ongewoon).
