Everything about this hotel was wonderful. The staff went out of their way to be helpful, the location is amazing, and the facilities were gorgeous. What a gem in the middle of a fantastic city!
There was nothing negative about this hotel. If we find ourselves in Bruges we will absolutely stay there again.
Staff friendliness Comfort Location. location
Restaurant not well patronised
Plenty of character in a quirky Tailor's Guild house.parts of it need repairing. There are beautiful paintings in the reception area.Lovely staff, nothing too much trouble. We ate in their Pergola restaurant, beautiful food and setting, highly recommend it.
The bathroom looked in need of care.
Changing rooms because of noisy radiator during the night.
Hotel Die Swaene has enormous potential but unfortunately there are areas that are old and outdated. The location is superb with good parking and the staff very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was excellent and served in a beautiful room but somewhat expensive. The decor had an old world feeling, but it is old. The television in the room was very small and did not have BBC or any Channel in English. Usually nowadays at least one news Channel in English is available in even the smallest hotel. The room was very dark and the lighting was poor. The bathroom had mould around the bath and the shower curtain was very grubby. In fact the whole bathroom is in need of updating. Our visit was in late November and it felt as if many of the facilities were closed for the winter. There was no bar as such although the excellent staff (one only most of the time) was very obliging. We ate in the Pergola restaurant across the road and canal on one evening. (It is closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays) We were the only diners. Beautiful location in summer no doubt, but it lacked atmosphere on our visit. The food was pretentious and very expensive but good. As in other Belgium restaurants they would not serve tap water saying it was not fit for drinking and wanted to charge some €10 per litre for bottled. (This does leave a bitter taste..not the water, the grabbing attitude.) There are no warnings about the "dangerous" water in the hotel and we had been drinking it in our room for since arrival. When questioned the staff admitted that the ice cube machine was supplied from the tap. In summary a little disappointing but Bruges is such a lovely City and we will visit again sometime, and maybe even stay at Die Swaene if we could negotiate a little on the price!
Location was super. The staff was friendly and helpful. The room was pretty.
The bathroom had half doors so light flooded the room whenever the room was in use. There was no coffee maker/kettle in the room. Breakfast is not included in the price of the room.
Great location, beautiful, quaint hotel. Good service and breakfast. Really beautiful place.
Proximity to City Centre Friendliness of family owned hotel Cleanliness and quietness of ambient
TV only in Flemish or Dutch, not even free News channels were available Cramped basic bathroom Overall value for money although probably equal to others in the City
Location and Character
We booked a canal view. We arrived at night and only when he had unpacked the luggage did we draw the curtains and realise that the room looked out onto a stone wall about 4 metres away! We persuaded management to relocate after the manager had adopted the implausible argument that all his rooms had their own unique character. The room to which we were moved had a shower room with serious drainage issues and an obnoxious smell of foul drainage. It is hard to believe that other guests haven't experienced the same problem. Attempts were made to address the issue but they were only able to mask the problem. We have owned a period hotel ourselves and know that it isn't always easy but this was seriously poor value for money!
Great location Lounge absolutely stunning Pool/sauna facilities delightful Staff very friendly and extremely knowledgeable
Very hot in room overnight but aircon and windows solved the problem Twin beds frustrating but not a big issue
Location Period features in hotel Friendly knowledgable staff
Cost of breakfast Charge for sauna
The décor is comfortable and welcoming in this hotel which is situated in the centre of town on the one of Bruges famous canals. The staff could not have been more welcoming and helpful. Would we go back? Most certainly and also recommend it to everyone who appreciates comfort.
What is not to like.

Location and peace.
Very Personal and helpful staff and unique experience
The location of the hotel and the very helpful friendly concierge called Levan (sp)
We felt our room very shabby and in need of decoration. Net curtains torn and light not working by bed. The plumbing in toilet also faulty. Very expensive for what it was
Staff were very helpful and courteous. Mains rooms are well furnished, opulent and interesting. Buffet style breakfast was superb. Very comfortable bed. Location of hotel is very central and picturesque beside a canal. Good restaurant on opposite side of the road. In spite of my negative comments I would still recommend this hotel.
My bedroom was pretty small even though it was classed a Superior double. There were a couple of ugly wires visible leading from the elevated TV attached to the wall. There was no view from the window. There was an unattractive minibar just plonked on the floor. My main concern was the terribly outdated bathroom. The toilet roll holder was large and plastic and the flushing system was also rather unsightly plastic. There was a very unattractive plastic stool in situ. The shower had no strength to it and there was minimal hot water on the two occasions I used it. The bathroom and hallway desperately need repainting and refurbishing. There was no safe. At €200 a night, it was expensive.
Good location Helpful staff Comfortable beds Good breakfast
Very kitch furnishings Bed covers stained NO HOT WATER FOR 2 OUT OF 3 NIGHTS! No tea/coffee making facilities
Staff very friendly and helpful, great location. Great character within the rooms, but dated and not up-to date.
On our stay; hot water didn't work, lift didn't work, cleaner didn't clean room. This may not affect your stay, but you may be put off expecting good facilities normal within a 4* hotel, but the facilities are extremely old and dated (not what you would expect for the price) and no upgrade works have been done. Im sure there are many other hotels in Bruges to visit, but I would not return to this one!
it is a beautiful hotel and the breakfast is excellent.
My room was not very good. The bathroom was awkward, the air condition was broken. But maybe i was unlucky with the room i stayed.
beautiful rooms, beautiful view of canal, staff were excellent and brought our luggage to the room for us, (valet) parking
Good location right in the historical centre of Bruges. The room was big with private patio terras. The staff is friendly and helpfull.
Interior of the hotel lounge is dated and very kitch! The interior of the room was "tipically Bruges" which is charming but a bit over the top. Bathroom was definately dated. Parking of the hotel costs 15 euro which was not communicated to us upon our arrival.
The decor was opulent without being fussy, the location was fantastic and the service great
The checkin girl was very helpful recommending great places to eat and see. The older gentleman is a character, nothing phased him, very helpful and nice. Great room with a canal view. Excellent spot for exploring Bruges
The level of service was excellent and the staff a credit to the hotel. When travelling to Bruge for business or pleasure I would only stay at the Di Swaene
