The front of house staff were very good and dealt with our complaints in a professional and helpful manner. It was noticeable that the manager did not make an appearance to support the staff or hear our comments personally. This is not a four star hotel. Initially we were offered a room outside of the main building, it was cold, musty and smelled of damp, the furniture was poor and the bathroom had no heating. The second room whilst better in aspect was dirty (beams were covered in dust and the carpet badly needed replacing), towels were frayed and there was no proper shower. Like the first room, the bathroom was unheated and the only heating available in the bedroom was a very noisey air heater. Turning to the public areas, the hallway carpet on the fourth floor was very stained and frayed, and walls were badly marked, in the breakfast room seat covers were stained and everywhere windows were dirty. |

Welcoming staff and a wonderful "room with a view" over the city. Fabulous 4-poster bed. Large bath available but the shower did not have enough power for use above waist height (low water pressure). Mini bar not working (warm beer). |

Staff are very friendly and accommodating. Liked the fact that each room has its own uniqueness. Location is great for access to restaurants, bars and shopping. |

We experienced a very friendly and helpful reception on arrival. We were given a "loft" ie a suite on two levels with a staircase between. Upstairs in the loft afforded a view over the rooftops. In common with many hotels they did not serve a proper cup of breakfast tea. Black tea should be prepared with freshly boiling water in a teapot, not with hot water in a cup (the amount of water in a cup is insufficient for the amount of tea-leaves in a tea bag). However, when I pointed this out the staff did produce a tea pot for me. |

The atmosphere at the hotel was very nice. Breakfast buffet was wonderful. The location is great for exploring the city. Bathroom was great. Staff was very flexible and helpful, very friendly. The carpet on the upper floor and in the room looked like needing an urgent refurnishing. We had the smell of cigarette smoke coming in through the bathroom ventilation twice. We had moskito problems and judging from the "corpses" on the ceiling and the walls, we were not the first ones |

Location. Within easy walking distance of all the sights.Very clean.Good breakfast. Our room had a noisy leaky ac unit had to use bucket to catch the water or the floor would be flooded.Complained but unfortunately no-one was available to fix it. Offered a small bottle of Champayne on check out as compensation for sleepless night.Apart from this the hotel is perfect for a stay in Gent. |

Clean room, friendly staff, great breakfast. The room we stayed at the 1st night was very small, barely enough room for the baby cot, and the air-conditioning make a lot of noise and didn't function at all to cool the room. In the middle of the 1st night we changed to another room, much more spacious, perfect air- conditioning, but it was right beside the "plumbing room", so we could hear loud gushing water all day and all night. We checked out after the second night and found a better hotel. It's barely a 3-star hotel, don't know how it could possible have 4 stars. |

Hotel can become plagued by mosquitoes which is really unpleasant. I was I a loft room at first and spent a sleepless night due to the pests. Changed rooms the next day and although more comfortable, both rooms had walls with squashed mosquitoes on them. Management seemed ambivalent. Location of the hotel is good - but it needs stronger more dedicated management more in tune what visitors want and what visitors should not have to tolerate. I rate this as a c minus. |

Although difficult to find at first (the Poel is basically a traffic circle) and a bit of a walk from the tramline, the location is close to Gent's historic center and the Lei River. We had a large triple room that faced the street and offered a nice view of the gorgeous facade of the Erasmus Hotel across the street. It was quiet except for the early morning street cleaning. The breakfast was very generous and tasty. The in-room air conditioner was extremely noisy and in need of replacement. The staff were stiff and unfriendly seeming. An example: When I asked about how much a taxi ride to an event cost, the staff would only say "you have to agree yourself with the driver." Although Bankcontact is listed as a payment method on the booking.com website, this is an exaggeration: The staff merely tell you where a bank machine is located so you can go get cash yourself and bring it back to the hotel! That was not a nice way to end an otherwise quite enjoyable visit to Gent. |

The attic room we stayed in was very spacious and clean and hotel is located very centrally. Local Belgian beers are a highlight of any trip to the area. No tea/coffee facilities in room. |

friendly hotel. good breakfast. We got a beautiful loft. great bed and nice bathroom. the aircondition was very weak and the weather wes very hot. it functioned as a fan and not as an a/c. at night there is only one stuff member in the hotel-the receptionist. I think it's not right for a 4 star hotel.I must say she was kind and helpfull. |

The staff were very helpful and friendly. Great breakfast and beautiful interior. Room a bit on the small size (Twin room) however they apologised for having to give us the small room. Was still spacious enough. |

This is a special small hotel with all amenities. My room was quiet and comfortable and the bathroom was very well equipped. There is a great selection of items at the breakfast buffet. The breakfast room is nice and has a terrace. I stayed there only for one night and had to rush in the morning. I slept very well, but unfortunately could not enjoy the breakfast. |

The staff was excellent, very friendly and helpful. They gave us a map of the city and told us about what to see and do. The shower is hand held. Which is not handy. |
