Score from 447 reviews Excellent
Lovely hotel on historical site. Great base for exploring Ypres and surrounding area. Staff friendly and helpful . Great little bar area and excellent restaurant in evening.
Rooms a little dated, but adds to the quirkiness of the hotel.
Good food, comfortable room, family run hotel, good selection of beers, centre of the Great War sites, not far from Ypres, easy parking,I thoroughly enjoyed my stay, and will book this Hotel again, highly recommended
The access to Ypres was very good as well as its proximity to the cemeteries and museums.
I thought that the hotel was a bit stark and cold. The food was good, if a touch on the expensive side.
It had free parking.
The Kitchen was closed on Sunday so we couldn't get any food. There was no lighting in the corridor at night. Beware of the Fun park next to door it is noisy.
The great location The homely atmosphere Very friendly staff
Sometimes disturbance of sleep with the floorboards above Needs some modernisation
Location. Good choice at breakfast.
The beds were awful. Bathroom needs updating. No tea or coffee facilities in room. Towels very poor. Hotel could do with overhaul. Chairs uncomfortable in room. Staff never in evidence.
Quaint, so near to history lovely setting
Location of Hotel Plenty of free parking Good breakfast Friendly and helpful staff Cleanliness Warmth of all rooms
The hotel is full of character and in beautiful grounds with it's own WWI tunnels and crater. There are additional bedrooms that are based in a building next door which looked much more modern than the original hotel so make sure to check where your room will be if you want the older version! Our room was spacious and immaculate with everything we needed. The dining room and bar were lovely and the breakfast was very fresh. I can't understand why this is only a 3 star hotel, it should be 4 star at least - it's perfect as a base for battlefield tours! I'm already planning my return!
We had had a full day visiting the battlefield sites and museums and we were ready for a rest. We were directed to the new block and were very pleased with our room. The showerNd bathroom were great the beds comfortable and enough space for the family. Great breakfast Buffett wish we were staying longer!
My 3rd visit and I will certainly be back again sometime. The hotel has a superb location with WW1 history on the hotel grounds. Excellent food....though the menu was a little limited and no food is served on a Sunday night. Friendly staff who all speak excellent English and are happy to help with questions/advice. Room and facilities were very clean. We were located in thew new annex which lacks the charm of the old building but is very comfortable with very nice rooms.
Historic significance of the Hotel's location. Staff excellent, Nice little bar. Mini wildlife park in the back garden.
Transport links to Ypres on a Sunday poor. The most expensive return rural taxi fare (from Ypres) for a 4 km journey ever encountered at 20 Euro - rip off!!!
Decent sized car park. Reasonable location.
New rooms in the annex feel a little down-market.
Easy to find in a lovely setting. We were in a new build short walk from main hotel. Very modern and clean but lacked frills. Evening meal was excellent and good value for money. May not suit neveryone as it was set menu with no choice. Staff were very friendly and helpful although I was not offered gluten free breakfast even though it was requested.
New block next to a main road so could be noisy at times. No tea/coffee making facility in the room.
friendly staff, excellent food and a very convenient place to stay to visit the military cemeteries and only 10 minute drive from the Menin Gate. There are also trenches to visit in the hotel grounds.
there was nothing to dislike regarding this hotel.
Location, interesting trench and crater network in the grounds, quality of the rooms. Quality of restaurant food.
Breakfast is a bit chaotic (but very good quality). Only a table d'hôte menu available at weekends.
Central for the WW1 Sites.
Lat and Long figures for the hotel on the Booking.Com site 30 miles out !
Stayed in the new complex, which was very basic, but clean and close to the dining facilities. Food was very good and service was good. Close by was an area which figured in close contact between our troops and Germany, and the position changed hands on several occasions.
BEDS, ROOM, LOCATION
RESTAURANT CLOSES BEFORE 9 AT NIGHT NO TEA / COFEE IN ROOM
Steeped in history
Cramped dining room/bar
Great location, friendly staff. We stayed in the newer building and it was very comfortable and clean.
The open shower takes getting used to.
Lovely rooms overlooking the Hooge Crater. Large car park. Bar and evening meal if required. Breakfast excellent.
location and access to area
The comfort, the peace & quiet & the proximity to Ypres. Thought the remains in the garden were fascinating.
The lack of a lounge & the evening menu was poor.
Open air ww1 site
