It is amazingly friendly for Brussels (most hotels do not care much, even those in 200 Euro price tag). Inside you feel like at the grandma home. It is run by mother and 2 daughters, who also run a gift shop at the street level. Breakfast (French type tasty, but not that minute, is brought to your room - official reason - no separate room for breakfast). Windows have triple glazing - front windows are semi historic, while behind them is a modern sound-proof window. There is no air-conditioning, but heating works very well. Everything very clean and neat. And just small enough to feel at home. Internet fast and free!!! In brx where everybody grabs your money as fast as possible. And the room prices are constant!!! No plastic cups! Hotel is inexpensive but by far not cheap. Small details like lack of the table lamp for reading. On a table I would prefer something less cold than glass. Toiletteries are no more but very basic (but towels are royal). Warning: all rooms are at the upper floors and there is no lift and the spiral stairs are very narrow and troublemsome for elderly and people with luggage (especially while walking down)

The location, the petitness of the place and the continental breakfast that is brought to the room for the guests to eat on the bed (no other place to eat it as these rooms are tiny). The simple fact that this is not a hotel. It is a bed and breakfast!! Having a good location ie right opposite the little peeing boy means noise for most of the night as people stagger back home after all that strong beer to crack some jokes and the sound travels. Fortunately you are left with 2 choices at sleep time. Shut the double windows and suffocate as there is no air conditioning or open the windows and stay awake and accept the noise until it stops at about 4 am and then sleep until the tour groups role up at about 9-10am.

La Vieille Lanterne is so quaint and in a perfect location. The staff is extremely helpful and kind. We loved that it was part of a souvenir shop as well as the fact that it is located a few steps away from Manneken Piis, numerous Belgium waffle stands, Belgium chocolate stores, and plenty restaurants. La Vieille Lanterne provided us with such an intimate setting for our spent in Brussels. We look forward to staying there again.

Location Very narrow staircase, couple of times could have fallen down. When carrying suitcase terrifying experience. No refrigerator in the room.....huge minus for that. Wi-FI signal terribly low, couldn't work normally, couldn't check e-mail or pretty much do anything else. Staff english is terrible. Very noisy during the evening and the night. Drunken youth is howling just underneath the window.Basically, the stuff was friendly.

A very nice atmosphere of this old building and French breaksfast brought into the room! I was concerned about the location of the hotel - right above the Manneken Pis, and in the day time it was indeed quite noisy down in the street, but it turned out to be ok during the night, so I was very satisfied! Very narrow ladder and no elevator, so would be tough with lots of luggage

hotel is conveniently located, just minutes walk from grand place. i could see maneken pis from my window 20 m away. the room was not tiny and rather clean. the maneken was to the right, but right across the street was a half-abandoned building occupied by squatters with a couple of dogs, an entertaining sight. since the maneken pis was only meters away, the roar from the crowd around it was kinda annoying, and it was pretty much around the clock, in the evening musicians came to play for the crowd and at night drunkards from all over the city came to the fountain to sing and shout. however the double windows when closed tightly somewhat helped. especially when combind with the blanket and the pillow pulled over my head. so it is not a complaint, just a point to consider.

La Vieille Lanterne is a charming little hotel tucked away behind an ordinary gift shop. It's a fantastic location, with a comforting smell of waffles and chocolate filling the streets. Diagonal from Brussel's icon; Mannekin Pis as well as a favorite watering hole; Poechenelle Kelder, you couldn't ask for better accomodations for the price. The Spanish mother & daughter do a fine job of running the establishment -- and contrary to other comments, I found the laguage barrier to be a positive aspect. I mean, what more is involved in checking in that having a piece of id and knowing how to use the key after hours? Any more than that, and you're simply too demanding. I also liked that it was so near the "Sablon" area, which I've grown more fond for exploring. My only disklike was having to squeeze through the tourists to arrive at this destination. It's a hot spot, so be prepared for possibly taking an alternative route during peak hours. You should also bring your own bath products, as the hotel provides only towels.

3 minutes walk from Grand Place, 5 - from Delirium Cafe ;) and metro Bourse, 10 - from Central Station. You can see Maneken Pis right from your window! Plus nice helpful old lady (owner?) in the gift shop on the ground floor. Do I have to to add anything? For me it wasn't very inconvenient, but to be honest: a) you will deal with rather steep and narrow circular stairs, b) there is no hall, so if more than two guests with they suitcases waited in line for check-in, one of them would do that outside and the exit would be pretty blocked but I think they will find the room for you luggage on the ground floor if needed and the price pretty adequately reflects all above mentioned peculiarities.

Good location, very clean, free wifi in the room, breakfast in the room basic french (croissant/bread/beurre/marmalade) with good coffee. Entry is at the back of a shop by way of steep stairs, which gives doubts on exit routes in case of fire

The location is good, it is off the busy street and provide you a quiet sleep. The rooms is clean but a little worn out. The staircase is really really really narrow. I have to carry 2 heavy baggage up 5th floor where my rooms is. Alway worried about missing a step, as the steps are really small too. Weak Wifi on the 5th floor. Overall a acceptable budget hotel. No air con in room.

Nice little place in the center of the old district of Brussels. Easy to get to from Brussels Midi/Zuid via the Metro. Clean rooms. The room was quite small, but I suspect quite a decent size for the location.

Location. Usual stuff for budget hotels in Brussels - smelly room (obviously, many smokers went through), cold, steep stairs and no elevator, receptionist did not speak english, etc..
