Score from 1116 reviews Very good
Everything has been said before in previous reviews, so I'll simply say that all the superlatives are fully justified.
The hotel with great team is well placed a short walk from the train station with good tram links into the centre. Metered on street parking outside with spaces always available. I brought my big kids for the market and had a great night. Just wished it was for longer but University exams prevented etc. Ghent is wonderful and won't disappoint at any time of the year - fantastic place and will stay at the Carlton without hesitation.
Nothing that wouldn't have been quickly sorted out if I'd asked so I won't mark down this lovely hotel or the staff.
Small hotel with the personal touch and great service. We arrived in the morning and our room was not ready - which was no problem. Housekeeping was asked to prepare our room next. We were then given drinks and biscuits in reception, a city guide and some help on how to get around, what to see, where to get trams etc. But it's not a stereotypical small hotel - the breakfast room, bedrooms, reception, parking etc are all of the standard you would expect in a top hotel, but just at a smaller venue. Although a small hotel - I don't mean the bedroom was small; it was a decent size, modern and clean. TV had many channels, including from the UK. The beds were comfy in super king size - of a style I've seen in Denmark with two single quilts instead of one large one (prevents tug of war with the other half). Tea and coffee was included and there was a fridge/ minibar (reasonably priced). It was what I would call mid priced, but good value. I've stayed in places that cost a lot more and were not as good.
Not much, maybe there is still room for a few tweaks to make it even better.
Good location, great breakfast, large comfortable room
If you go for bussines, it is good because it is near the Exhibtion Center. The staff is very friendly and they help in all the client needs. Also the room is very big and confortable.
From the minute we arrived the staff were attentive and eager to help us enjoy our stay in Ghent. The hotel is not too big and has an intimate feel to it. The breakfast offered a good choice of food.
The carpets in the hotel are showing signs of age.
Friendly helpful staff Large rooms Great location
Rooms very close together so when doors slam shut late night or early morning you can't help but hear it
The room was big, clean and quiet. Would recommend!
Very friendly and helpful staff Great rooms Brilliant breakfast
The staff recommended the places the tourists should visit in details, and we can feel they are pasdionate, they know the city very well and love it from the heart.
Very good location. Helpful staff with personal touch.
Lovely big rooms with huge beds. Spotless and modern décor. Perfect hotel.
Very comfortable room, good location.
The staff were welcoming and gave us lots of information about Ghent, its history and places to visit. The room was huge and well thought out. Would definately recommend it to anyone wanting to stay in Ghent.
Hotel was hidden away close to the station and just along from a tram stop. Free maps and tourist advice, genuine interest in our comfort. Large bedroom brand new matresses. Breakfast great cooked fresh
Maybe some new carpet in hallways
The guys who run the hotel could not do more for their customers. Would go there again just based on that!
Siper nice and friendly staff! Nice breakfast
- Very friendly, helpfull staff (ask which reastaurants are good) - Nice roomy room - Good bed - Good breakfast - Good location (20 min walk from city centre)
- I had a street room.. bit noisy (Had window open because it was warm)
Room was very comfortable with leather furniture and kettle, tea and coffee and mineral water provided. The TV was very good quality, although didn't have BBC2 (UK channel) which is available elsewhere in Belgium. No matter. Breakfast was unusual and good quality, €12 extra, I enjoyed it. The location was brilliant with a park and the railway station close by.
Very friendly and helpful owners, good breakfast Service.
All aspects very good, from the moment we arrived until we left. All staff very personable.Would stay again and recommend to others.
The staff is very helpful and friendly. The hotel has a good location, near the train station. The triple room is very good.
The service of the staff The room was nice and clean
There were some strange noises in the room. Think it was the waterpipe
It seemed to me that the hotel is kept up by a few young persons who are enthusiastic about their work. I asked them about places and monuments and they flooded me with so much information that could have taken hours jut to digest and about a month to visit them all including various maps and booklets about Gent. They were really friendly and direct in their communication which I liked. They were very kind I found their style really good. The room was large compared to other hotels I visited in the past few years and well equipped. Hairdresser and electric jug with a few sorts of tea bags and instant coffee included for free as well as a selection of shampoo soap shower cap etc which was similar to what you would get in a four stars hotel. The bed was clean. The bathroom looked nice, the washbasin was really pretty. We could hear significantly less noise from the other rooms than in other hotels we stayed in recently. The airport transfer bus stop is really close. We could easily walk over in a few minutes from the bus top to the hotel.
I have really high standards for cleanness so it might not be relevant for you but I felt that the bathroom could have been cleaner. And the tap seemed a little worn. I saw some dust on the lamp in the bathroom but not significant. The elevator and the corridors were really small which might be challenging when someone arrives with a massive luggage. The towels in the bathroom smelled bad.
