1. The hotel made a test charge on my credit card without prior notice on the morning of arrival which was allegedly withdrawn in 5 minutes (still could not check). 2. check-in was slow, the clerk answering a phone call, not transferring me to the other (free) receptionist (otherwise they were nice and polite). 3. When before checking out I returned to my room at 10:30 AM to pick up my luggage, the maid had already started cleaning the room.
This is a Best Western hotel, and offers everything a BW should. The room I got (#110, of the silver-gray design displayed at booking.com) is clean, quiet, comfortable with very few signs of wear. It is not large but provides enough space to feel OK. In early March I could control the heating (which blows in warm air through the overhead A/C outlet); the bathroom has its own controllable central heating. Breakfast: cereals, 3-4 kinds of cheese; hard salami, ham, kinds of yogurt, bread, rolls, choc-filled and regular croissant, enjoyable kinds of jam, ample hot drinks and juices. Cooked breakfast: scrambled eggs plus sausages (on my first day) and fried bacon (on the 2nd day). Location: Brussels Cathedral is a 5-minute walk, Grand Place is 10 mins (can be made via a passage). Transportation: Madou Metro station is about 5 mins (take the Bishopsheim exit). Tram No 92 (towards Luize and the Horta Museum) and 93 (towards Luize or to the Stadium/Atomium in the other direction) stop 100 m from the hotel and run every 6-8 mins. Neighborhood is quiet and looks safe (government district).
