The owner of this B&B was away (a family emergency) but she had left a young woman tenant in the house in charge and thsi person was charming and did all she could to help when the numerous problems arose. Plus the young man who cooked breakfast also tried to help. The owner, once alerted to the situation (she was away in Morocco) called me to apologise and offer a free night as compensation.
The heating didn't work. The television didn't work. The WiFi didn't work. The bed had only a thin blanket - it was cold, especially with no heating. Worst of all, the lighting in the shower/WC was on a timer. It went out after a minute. To get it to turn on, you had to wave your arms around like a lunatic in the dark - not easy if sitting on the loo or taking a shower. I have never encountered a timer for a bathroom light before. This is a bed and breakfast establishment charging hotel prices, but not offering hotel standard service. I had paid for 2 nights but left after the first and went to stay with friends... The lack of properly functioning WiFi is a serious problem for somewhere wanting to attract business people.
It's realy hard to find in our times such a nice person like the owner of the Residence, taking care about everything and thinking of every aspect of your stay. I highly recommend Residence Marie-Therese!
location is excellent, close to the european area and also close to some good restaurants (only tried one), and the downtown area, while it is really quite. Parking spot near the place (at a reaonalble fee) was also good, since the streets are pretty full :-)
I had a lovely room with nice view in the residence. Célimène is a wonderful host who makes you really feel at home. The breakfast she serves is amazing: lots of choice. And the location is great if you need to be in the European quarters, it's about 10 min walk to the Commission Building.
Lovely quiet place, amazing breakfast! Location ideal for European Commission. I will stay here again
Perfect conditions Good WIFI Rich breakfast Staff of the residence
Personalized approach and family environment.
Internet was very slow.
The atmosphere and how the staffs were taking care of everything.
Not being able to pay by credit card
Fine taste and beautiful look and feel of the residence. The friendly welcome of the manager. The overall service.
Nice atmosphere Personal attitude Flexible service
The hospitality of the owner and staff; the tasteful facilities; the quiet, yet central neighbourhood.
What a wonderful stay! From the very warm welcome of the host to the great comfort of my room and the beauty and prestige of the residence, everything was perfect. The breakfast is complete, with fresh hand made orange juice and croissant, from sweet to salty food, and good discussions around the table. I traveled in Brussels all by foot, grand place is at fifteen minutes, the parliament center is at five minutes. I warmly recommend this place for any business or touristic trip.
The Fact I could not stay more time to enjoy!
Personal touch in everything, including, attitude, service, meals (even had a dinner after an early flight). Very nice if you are bored of the standard hotel procedures :)
Everything was great, I am definitely coming back !
The owner is just great. Had everthing I wantd or neeeded and more :-)
The home from home atmosphere. The owner gives 110% service. Comfortable bed.
Having to talk to strangers over breakfast - we all sat round one table. I'm not a morning person!
very nice staff, great place (cosy), nice terrasse
Breakfast Comfort of room Residence host location helpfulness of staff
The lady was so nice, and made me sandwiches and a massive pot of tea - no charge, and generallly superhelpful. Nice place too.
- a very guest friendly landlady, the Residence close to the centre, worth being recommended
very nice atmoshpere, very good location, family style service, roof terrace
I had a lovely and comfortable time staying at the Resience. The staff were very pleasant and went out of their way to make my stay more comfortable. The bed was comfortable, the room was nice and there was a super roof-top garden that I could access. Good value for money as you get a free breakfast - this isn't the case with most other residences/hotels in the area.
It has just 2 good things: excellent staff and a beautiful entrance.
The room I stayed in was very smelly...mold, the smell was horrible. Also cramped and odd, hideous I might say, with a uber-small lavatory (want to wash your face?! You’ll have to make calisthenics over the toilet basin) and a shower cabin near the bed. (no joke, see pictures). Horrible and old bed covers, uncomfortable pillows, the TV had none of the French important channels (france2, m6, arte), but had some with necked ladies...No night lamps working. I had to take the one of the desk. Another one was convinced to work…temporarily. At 2 am my room was bathed in light, I woke up terrified: someone went to the nearby terrace, and since the door of the room was almost all of glass, I had to stop sleeping and enjoy...Breakfast more than modest. Even the fruit basket I saw in the evening was not present anymore. Cheap salami, some jam, dry bread and very bad coffee. Not that I cared much, but I received a mail after making the reservation, where the owner boasted about the richness of the breakfast...making of it a cornucopia of food, several paragraphs of food from which we could choose...hilarious.. Ok...and last but not least: the room was VERY cold!!! I froze! Tried to open the heater, but...no effect. Dear owners, you asked 129 euros! Shame on us to agree to pay for such a mess. I still remember the dreadful smell, the icy room and the grotesque shower. As I said before: avoid it, please.
The true feeling of being welcomed and at home. The brilliant and heartwarming landlady. The close location to the EU institutions. Very highly recommended, especially if you have to deal with bureaucracy or have a stressful business trip.
Beautiful building with nice furnishings. I was upgraded to a Spa room, which was a nice surprise. The owner is very helpful and friendly and even lent me a map of the area. The residence is very close to the European sector, so very convenient. The Italian restuarant close by serves delicious food and friendly staff.
There was no elevator, which is a problem if climbing stairs is difficult.
