The owners, Jan and Ingrid, are very nice people who seem to genuinely enjoy running the hotel. While rustic and a bit unusual in design, the Hotel de Stokerij has a very charming atmosphere. Though we booked a small room, the hotel was under booked and we were put into a large room, free of charge. The bed was huge and very comfortable, the room's view of the countryside was wonderful, and our bathroom was spacious with a quality Jacuzzi tub.
Breakfast was spectacular. As other reviews have mentioned, Jan is a professional chef. While the meals at the hotel's restaurant were a bit too pricy for me, the breakfast was included, with fresh smoked salmon, eggs cooked to order, fresh bread, freshly made cakes, local cheeses...
We left for Bruges by bus, and we're even given a ride to the bus stop by the owners.
Our only complaint is the location, though the fault is mainly with booking.com. Hotel de Stokerij is not actually in Bruges, but rather in Ettelgem, which is outside the city. This is not far if you are driving, but by bus it takes about a half hour and then another fifteen minutes or so of walking. The flip side of this, though, is that the rural location makes the hotel's surroundings beautiful and peacdfulm
