Plovdiv is a city of contrasts, spanning many centuries.
Plovdiv is a city of contrasts, spanning many centuries. You can't help but stumble across history wherever you go. The centre is largely pedestrianised, making it easy to walk around, with lots of bars, cafes and restaurants, as well as shops.
Highly recommend the the Free Plovdiv walking tour which starts every day at 11am from outside the town hall in the centre. Very informative and takes you to all the key locations, giving you a great starting point from which to explore further. Check out the Kapana area for food & drink and the Old Town.

I have stayed in Plovdiv 13 times and will go back many more... It is an important city historically, with around 8000 years of continuous inhabitation. Many interesting landmarks from so many periods of history. There's museums to see, roman stadiums to uncover, a roman theatre to enjoy a show at, historical sites from the neolithic age right through to the Ottoman Empire and that's just the tip of the iceberg.
It has a great restaurant and bar scene, with something for everyone. People are also very friendly. A nice place to relax, eat, and enjoy life for a little while.
Pretty much everything is walking distance of the centre and for the few place a bit further out there are taxis and busses readily available.

The city center is beautiful and clean.
The city center is beautiful and clean. Plovdiv has a nice and well kept old town. There are many interesting sites to visit and beautiful big parks. It's not as touristic as it should be. It seems that many cultural events are organized there.

Easy transportation: Walkable city, bus only 1 lev and easy to around. History: Roman ruins everywhere, fantastic museums, fascinating history.
Food: Is amazingly delicious. Smokini's and Aylyakria are our favorites.
People: are friendly and helpful, a harmonious blend of different cultures
Entertainment: never a shortage of activities, opera, chamber music, plays, street performers.
Very affordable.
The charming looking hotel is a bit outdated and has a beautiful terrace in front of the hotel. I travelled in November so there were few guests. Th hotel is located in the center of the old town, which is by car only accessible for people who live there and hotel guests. The roads in the old town are made of square rocks which makes it difficult to walk on for elderly people and impossible for a person with a disability. The hotel has a small parking garage and place there must be booked in advance. Very friendly service and a good breakfast.
Conveniently located in a safe neighborhood and at walking distanced from city center and the ancient town. There is a bus stop only two blocks away and there are corner shops and restaurants and cafeterias around the corner. There is a large park nearby as well as a mall. The supermarket Lidl is just 3 blocks away. The apartment has a kitchen and a fridge so you can cook your own meals, though i recommend to buy exquisite and inexpensive homemade Bulgarian food in the corner (walk left).
Rooms are soundproofed and have air conditioner.
everything is perfect. the location is great if you want to explore the old town. It was not easy to drive up to the hotel because it is located in a restricted area, but we were able to drive in and stopped for a short time to load our luggage. The elevator is very small, but big enough to lift our luggage. The hotel has no parking of its own and it is impossible to park on a nearby street, but we parked in the Ramada parking lot for a reasonable fee.
The breakfast was excellent, even though the restaurant was temporarily out of order.
The hotel offers a very good value for money for those who want to visit the beautiful Plovdiv - the oldest city in Europe. The hotel is located on a 15 min. walking distance from all the artefacts and sites - Roman stadium, ancient theater, Bishop's basilica, Bulgarian Rainessance houses and churches, Kapana, Ottoman mosque, Djumaia, modern museums, the singing fountains, the Main street with lots of restaurants and shops, etc. The rooms and the service of the hotel are of high quality. I recommend it.
Really great hotel, excellent location with lovely view of Maritsa River. Rooms are freshly refurbished, modern, bright and cozy. Lovely bathroom. Good heating system (our visit was in January). Old Town is just across the river. Free and secure parking. Great pool. Staff is extremely friendly, kind, professional and helpful, very nice people. Breakfast is delicious and plentiful.
We were more than happy here and we would certainly stay in Grand Hotel Plovdiv again anytime.
I loved the interior design of the entire hotel and my room as well, particularly the matching colors and patterns of the interior and the artistic decoration of the hallways and the staircase. My room was tiny, but perfectly designed for such size. I loved the way the shower and bathroom were integrated in the room with a glass wall. I rarely see such creativity and good taste in Bulgarian hotels.
The hotel and the room were very clean with a great location at a walking distance to old town of Plovdiv 10 min, the center, surrounding hills, International fair and all other places of interest. The staff was friendly and very helpful from the time of checking in. We were given tips on how to find everything including best food in the town. I will definetely come back to the hotel.
I stayed at this hotel for a second time in two months, because I really liked the location and the staff was so friendly and helpful. Also- pets are welcome! Anything you need is not more than five minutes away! Rooms are clean and well taken care of. As I am about to go to Plovdiv often now, I am not even going to bother to look for another place :)
The hotel is perfect. If we will go again to Plovdiv we will book again to this hotel. Warm and cozy rooms. Beautiful breakfast. Underground parking. The staff was very helpful! The receptionist explained everything and he was available to help us all the time. Last but not least the new SPA and gym facility. Thank you for the beautiful weekend.
The Grand Hotel Plovdiv is a great place to spend a weekend or for a business trip. The staff is very helpful. The accommodations are excellent. Large, clean well-organized rooms and a huge lobby for reading or working. It's located just 10 minutes on foot from the Kapana quarter of the city. You're close by but without the noise at night.
The owner mitko met me at the bus station at 21.00 hrs which was very good, there is nothing he doesn't know about plovdiv or indeed bulgaria. The hotel is on the edge of the old town.he also took me back to the bus station when I left, much cheaper than a taxi would have been.would not hesitate to stop here again.
this is a unique place - very modern and eclectic design combining nature with progress in a traditional house; I have neve seen so much luxurious amenities in a guest house and even in a pretentious 5 star hotel; very easy check in and check out, very clean, the host was welcoming and helpful
Great place to stay! Perfect location, parking space. Clean rooms. But the best is the attitude of the owner! If there are more like him, the hotel business in Bulgaria will be on a very high level. This hotel is a treasure!
Best Botique hotel in Bulgaria. Great ambience, personal touch and attitude towards meeting the guests. perfect location (2 min from Main Street, Plovdiv theater) and amazing view towards the ancient theater and old town.
Perfect, perfect! Great location, very nice and communicative staff. Clean and comfortable room. Modern. Breakfast very good with a lot of bulgarian tratidional food. I can only recommend this lovely family hotel.
Great location (downtown in front of the park and walking distance from the the main street and the old town). Very freadly and proactive staff. The hotel is perfect for business travelers or for familly.
Stayed at this hotel while visiting friends in Plovdiv. The hotel was clean and quiet. The room was tastefully decorated in white and grey neutral. There was on-site A/C if needed and a small fridge.
very large room in a new hotel. very close to the old town and Kapana areas. staff were helpful and informative. found car parking place right in front of the hotel. well worth the cost.
The hotel is just in the heart of old town, they have a free parking which is really nice to have , the style of the hotel is old apartment with all the accessories which suit the period
