Hotel Lion  

This was our second stay at this excellent hotel. (11th - 17th May 2012). The location is superb, with transport links to all of Sofia including the 'sights' - literally outside the hotel entrance. The Manager & staff all speak clear English & other languages, & are very polite & helpful. No request is too much or too little for them. We have only used non smoking rooms, but these are clean, comfortable & welcoming with a useful fridge for small purchases. The rooms are very reasonably priced when you consider the level of service & the location. The Lion's 'Papaya' hotel restaurant / cafe serves a very nice breakfast with several different choices, & their many gateaux / cakes are just too tempting. Again, the staff are excellent. The hotel is also near very good restaurants, cafes & other establishments. I recommend the 'Happy' & 'Joya' restaurants, & of course the superb 'Victoria' near the Nevsky Cathedral. Great food & incredible prices everywhere. Altogether, another wonderful visit to what I believe is the best hotel in Sofia. Well done everyone at The LION!

Great location especially when the Metro construction is completed outside the hotel. Lovely breakfast in the adjoining cafe which had wonderful deserts too. Walking distance from the coach and train stations. Beautiful room and tv with international stations. Really can't complain about anything although, as in any big city, watch out for people of ill repute wandering around on the streets outside!

The location is very good. Central and close to most everything. Just a few minutes to the Metro station Serdica and max 10 min walk from the train/bus station. The rooms are quite big actually and very good cleaned. Polite and helpful staff at the front desk.

They don't have their own restaurant with breakfast, so u get tickets for breakfast to use at Cafe Papaya next door. But still the breakfast choices is quite good. Outside the hotel around midnight to 2 am there are some prostitutes walking and asking for sex.

The rooms were certainly a good size. Rooms with balcony added that little extra.

The noisy building work outside was certainly a negative. Breakfast was in cafe attached to hotel, limited option and had to pay extra for orange juice.

Clean large room,and bathroom with excellent bath and shower. Very comfortable beds.

On reading the information online we thought the hotel had a bar/restaurant, only to be told that the hotel did not have either. We especially wanted an in-house dinner as one member of our party has difficulty walking. The nearest restaurant is across a very busy road, not good for someone with limited walking abilities.

Good value for money. Although there is a construction site (the new metro station) right next to the hotel, they did not work at night, so it was a quiet sleep. Very quick free wifi.

During the stay I had a medical emergency to deal with which necessitated checking-out early and arranging alternative flights home. Without exception the staff were thoroughly helpful and made a difficult situation much easier. Providing local information, calling airlines, arranging taxis.....just some of the kindnesses shown. The room was large and very clean and had all that we needed.

There are roadworks in the area and it is just a little out of the main centre, but there is plenty to commend in this hotel.

The hotel staff is very helpful to answer enquiry and to provide support.

Comfortable hotel, within 10 minutes walking to central bus station. It is very near to the local market, which is a delight to experience. Breakfast is served in their own cake/coffee shop and is included in the price.
