Veliko Târnovo offers a truly enchanting experience for visitors. The highlight of the city, Tsarevets Fortress, is a must-see attraction, albeit with its fair share of uphill climbs and cobblestone paths. However, the effort is well worth it, as you're rewarded with stunning views and the opportunity to explore historic sites at your own pace. The picturesque houses nestled into the hillsides provide a captivating backdrop for exploration and photography, with designated spots offering ideal photo opportunities. The warmth and hospitality of the locals further enhance the experience, ensuring a memorable visit. Don't miss the chance to dine at Shtastliveca restaurant, where delicious food is served alongside breathtaking views, and the friendly staff make you feel right at home.

Excellent accommodation.
Excellent accommodation. Everything in the room is very clean and new. Parking is very easy to find near the hotel. The place very quiet. There is a common kitchen very convenient with everythink you need. The staff is very friendly and attention with the turists. It would be very nice if all staff from Bulgaria would be at the same.

Very nice town (even it is a city, but in touristical part, it's a cosy little town with sloped cobblestone streets), VERY NICE people (Bulgarians are our brothers, indeed, I always felt that, as a Romanian).
Well organised, photogenic, good food, nice views and relaxing!

I used to live in Veliko Tarnovo (VT) so I know it pretty well. Being they old capital of Bulgaria, it is steeped in history and is great place for tourists with an interest in Bulgarian history to come and explore.
The Yantra River meanders in a steep valley, through Veliko Tarnovo.
There are a plethora of hotels to stay at and many apartments to rent, along with numerous cafés, bars and restaurants.
The main street winds its way along the hillside and the total length is walkable in about 40 minutes. There are shops of all types and further out of the city, there are super stores - supermarkets, DIY stores and furniture stores.
Taxis are cheap, metered and widely available and can also take you to nearby villages and back.
The city is served a network of buses.
Veliko Tarnovo has a railway station, that connects with Gorna Oryavitsa (a main railway hub) the line runs between Ruse and Stara Zagora. There's also a once daily international train between Bucharest and Istanbul, stopping at Gorna Oryavitsa and Veliko Tarnovo.
There are museums, galleries, a beautiful park, even a visiting circus.
Tsaravets Fortress lies at one end of the city, at the top of a hill.
For those with disabilities, walking is often up and down steps and fairly steep hills and wheelchair access to many places is limited, although this is improving, albeit slowly.
Climate in Veliko Tarnovo is very cold in the winter months of January and February, as low as minus 15°C and it can snow heavily. Summer months are hot.

The free walking tour of the city is excellent.
The free walking tour of the city is excellent. We paid a premium price (50 euro) for a guide around the fortress, but are almost certain we could have found a competent guide for less. The fortress has a rich history, but know that what you see has been rebuilt based on what it might have looked like--there was no written record to know for sure.

My first time in this city since 2008. Very disappointed.
My first time in this city since 2008. Very disappointed. The city has become a tourist trap. No decent place to eat that's not overpriced and with a completely bored and "couldn't be bothered" attitude of the wait staff.
Tsarvets is an overpriced ruin - half of it is a construction site with junk and pipes rolling around waiting to trip people up. I can't believe one of the nation's greatest treasures is so run down. Compared to other smaller museums in Bulgaria, they have done ZERO effort to make it nice, tell a story, have exhibits that transport you into the magical time of the Bulgarian kingdoms. It's like walking around a junkyard parking lot. Very disappointing.
Everyone in the city is clearly just using their hotels and attractions as a cash cow. Doing the bare minimum, if at all. A waiter at one of the restaurants had the gall to ask my partner for a tip when he paid with a credit card. I guess the waiter assumed he was American (he's not) and used to tipping 20%. We didn't tip because the service is atrocious and the servers don't expect Bulgarians to tip. Very off putting.
Mira was a super hostess, going above expectations to help make our stay a success. The junior suite was so comfortable - the sitting area was great, enclosed shower, very clean, no smoky odor, comfortable beds, quiet, safe building and street, right in the old town area. Were able to watch the light show from the comfort of our room on Saturday night and that was fun. There was a little store close by to pick up water. Lots of good restaurants close by. Taxi stand close by, across the street from Hotel Panorama.
I liked everything! The hotel is very clean, the rooms are spacious ,comfortable and very warm during the winter. From our room 332 we had a great view of Tsarevets.Staff is great as well!Delicious breakfast! The hotel is located not far from the main street but there is no sidewalk so walking to the city center is somehow tricky, however as we witnessed the taxi costs only 3 lv to hotel Yantra,3.50 to Tsarevets and 4 lv to Mother Bulgaria monument.Overall exellent value for money and strongly recommended!
5** everyday. The host met us lovely man, free bottle water& fruit. There is wine and beer in the fridge to buy if needed.
The bedding and bed were so comfortable . It felt like home
Everything was PERFECT
Short walk for the town of VT . Some lovely Bulgarian local restaurants , also lots of big restaurants ..
Would in a heartbeat stay here again . Thank you for the amazing stay
This apartment is just perfection! Spacious, comfortable, with all of the amenities that you can think of. The location is outstanding - to sleep just meters away from the Bulgarian medieval fortress Tsarevets was a very special experience.
The host is lovely and has created a beautiful space with lots of love. I highly recommend the guest house Velikite!
What can I say, it is rated number one hotel in Veliko Tarnivo and it lives up to it. I stayed at the number two hotel as well and it was inferior to the Gurko Hotel.
The breakfast was very good and they catered to a vegetarian diet.
The views are stunning and the setting of the hotel is ideal. The front of the hotel is cute and welcoming.
The communication previous to the the checkin was very kind, and once at the hotel the staff was very nice. The hotel is very well located and it's beautiful inside. The room was quiet and well equipped. Bathroom was very comfortable (more than average in Bulgaria). The price was very reasonable and it also included the breakfast.
High tech facilities enhancing comfort and wellbeing tastefully blended within ambience of Veliko Trnovo's oldest and most spectacular historical setting. Direct views over meandering Yantra River on to the Monument celebrating the founding dynasty of Bulgaria's second Empire which turned Veliko Trnovo into the nation's capital.
This hotel is the place you need to stay at when you visit Veliko Turnovo. It’s gorgeous, brand new, clean, modern and its location is perfect. The owner is very personable, welcoming and helpful. He prepared delicious breakfast for us and gave us recommendations on what to see, where to eat, etc.
The hotel is in a charming old building and the view was stupendous from our third floor room. Everyone on the staff was very nice and helpful. The breakfast was varied and plentiful. We also ate dinner at the hotel restaurant 2 nights and enjoyed some well prepared Bulgarian food and wine.
New hotel, very clean and comfortable. Very good location - 10 minutes walk from the city center. Very helpful staff, I requested parking reservation and the parking place, in front of hotel, was reserved for me. Very good buffer breakfast with big choice of food. Absolutely recommended.
Excellent location, close to main attractions and restaurants (a few minutes walk to Tsaravets Fortress). The room is better and way bigger than 5-star hotels (and we had a terrace the size of a studio apartment). Free parking is a big plus, especially in Veliko Tarnovo.
The hotel does not have its own parking (which was mentioned from the start on the booking website), but the employee from the reception offered to pay for our parking, a few meters away from the hotel.
Location is very good.
The bed was comfortable.
Spacious room.
The best for this place is the location and the panorama view from the terrace. Everything else is a complete disaster from the entry to the last second of your stay. I will definitely visit Veliko Tarnovo, but this hotel, I will avoid at all cost.
Good breakfast and excelent coffee. Fantastic Spa for a 3* hotel, very nice staff. Very close to the castle. Terrace at the top floor was a good place to spend quality time with friend, enjoying the good weather of late October.
The position of the hotel was great for us. Close to the main objectives and a silent area of the town. We had water in the room and slippers. Comfy bad, AC for warm. Good value for the money.
The location was perfect for us, close enough to town center to walk. Once inside the studio it was quiet and relaxing. The view from the balcony was spectacular.
