Bansko is at the edge of the Pirin mountain range which is beautiful. There is access to winter sports in the winter, and mountain biking/hiking/mountaineering in the summer. There are hikes and trails for all levels and I would highly recommend anyone who is interested in outdoors to go there.

Bansko is a good alternative for skiing when you cannot afford to go in the Alps .
Very good options for accommodation and for eating out in local restaurants.
You need to know that the ques for gondola in the morning can get pretty long and well exceed one hour wait.

Bansko is a city that captures the heart with its stunning beauty, effortlessly blending picturesque landscapes with the quaint charm of its streets. However, visitors should be wary of the numerous tourist traps that dot the city, often overshadowing its genuine offerings. Despite this, with a bit of diligence and local insight, one can uncover hidden gems like the small family-run 'mexana' we were fortunate to find. Serving homemade food with warmth and authenticity, it stood out as a beacon of traditional hospitality amidst a sea of commercialized eateries.
On the flip side, the popularity of Bansko's ski slopes comes with its own set of challenges, notably the excessive queues for the gondola lift, which can significantly dampen the skiing experience. Opting for a bus ride to the slopes proved to be a wise decision, bypassing the long wait and leading us directly to the well-maintained pistes. While Bansko offers much in terms of scenic beauty and skiing opportunities, visitors must navigate its less appealing aspects to fully enjoy what this charming city has to offer.

We didn`t know Bansko was so popular with the British 19/ 30 groups so when we arrived (09.00 o`clock in the eving we were shocked by noise and amount of drunken people in the streets and bars. I is like Benidorm in Spain. Bansko is to big for her wintersport facilities so the skilifts were totally overrrun and the lower pistes were way to busy. Up 3 hours waiting time on some days on the gondola. Prices for ski passes, equipment rental etc are really ok . Altough the pistes are nice they were way to busy. Food in restaurants and drinks are way overpriced.
We enjoy the breakfast, it was delicious.
In the dinner it was good too but for muslims it is not allowed to eat pork meat, so mostly meat was from pork there. So I recommended to serve different meat in the dinner.
The city it wasn't far, so we don't have to take taxi to visit city.
Hotel was clear and it was so good that a van transport us to ski resort, and he came back to take us.
The hospitality was great from staff of hotel.
And the staff did a good service for us, they allowed to have late check out just for 10 euros.
We had a different Bulgarian breakfast on each of the 3 days we stayed here. All of them were excellent. The immediate neighbourhood is pedestrianised and street parking is very limited. There was a single parking space on site at a cost of 10 лв per day but it was a bit of squeeze to get into it and I only have a smallish car. The location was spot on, right in the centre of the old town with plenty to see and do. It is a lovely, quirky old style hotel with many interesting artefacts to look at.
We absolutely loved our stay at the Red House Family Hotel.
It was our family ski trip with my dad and we stayed here for first time and eventhough it was our first time we felt like home !
From the ambiance to the great attitude by the stuff/owner I will be happy to leave a 10 star review !
Once we arrived the host helped us with our luggage and carried our suitcases upstairs and throughout outer whole stay our room was always sparkling clean. We will be happy to come back again ! 🙏🙂
St. Ivan Rilski SPA Resort is one of our favourite places to stay and we visit it regularly. It's one of the best SPA hotels for families as it provides you a wide variety of activities for both kids and adults. The SPA is magnificent, the kids playground is spacious and has animation and events for the kids. The staff is very friendly and polite, rooms are always clean and the meals are amazing. We always recommend the place to our friends and family and will definitely come back!
The hotel and ski area facilities, the hotel staff particularly Polly who was so friendly and polite with us. Breakfast was absolutely brilliant and the attention and service were excellent.
The hotel facilities and room were completely spotless and comfortable.
We used mostly all of the facilities offered and they exceed our expectations.
They have a transfer to Bansko town which was working at our convenience.
They have a kid area which was very important for us.
As we visited during down season, we were upgrades from a hotel room to a 1 bed apartment so amazing value for money. Spa was very quiet during this time too. Breakfast was ordered from a menu, though it looks like it's normally a buffet, I guess it makes more money sense with so few guests not to put on a buffet. In the non-ski season, the location is a little out of the way of most things, but we didn't mind the walk into town.
Rooms are clean (though a little dusty on the carpets) and as described at booking - above bulgarian standards! there is a nice ski room - though quite packed in February!
Very nice breakfast for 10 lvs, fruit, bread, sweet and traditional, egg and some form of specialty, way above average when compared to f.eks. a hostel i Switzerland. But only powder coffee. If you wanted one from the espresso mashine it would be another 2 lv.
Locations is great, just a few minutes walk from the ski resort Gondola, the rooms are big, the breakfast has quite a lot of variety, the spa area is included in the price of the rooms and has some nice facilities.
There is also a gym but we did not use it.
The hotel was really welcoming in letting us check in earlier and let us check out later to wait for our transfer.
The SPA centre was one of the best i visited, perfectly clean, welcoming staff, variety of procedures. The food was good, the location is not very far from the city centre. We had a great time in the hotel. The ladies which clean the rooms were so polite and kind 🙂 you are the best. Great job to all the staff, we are very happy with the service
Wonderful view from the terrace, walking distance from the centre of the town and at the same time - in a quiet part, away from the hustle and bustle of the touristic attractions. Very convenient free shuttle bus to the ski lift. Amazing food (diverse choice, well-prepared and organised), great SPA facilities and massages. Very spacious hotel.
I felt secure at Veziova House :) Breakfast was OK. Location is very central, 5mins walk to gondola. Lots of restaurants and markets around the hotel. Staff is friendly. There is a ski room for equipment. Our room was in the third floor and the view was nice, we had a mountain view. Rooms are warm.
The facilities are really excellent, well above 3*. The room was well appointed. The hotel is very clean. The staff were lovely, particularly the owner Olga and the bus driver Igor. It was the easiest ski transport I have ever used. No waiting around or miscommunication- just easy peasy.
The hotel was perfectly clean, warmed up and comfortable. The staff were friendly and the meals were abundant. I recommend staying in Grand Royale Apartment Complex & Spa. I also recommend booking your Spa procedures well in advance, as the therapists are pretty busy. :)
Great option in Ivan Rilski apartment complex; studio with all amenities for a short/medium stay, underground parking, full access to all hotel SPA facilities. Easy keys pick-up and drop-off at the reception. Kept in touch with the host and was very helpful.
The location is right behind the ski lift. I was highly pleased with the breakfast and the heated outdoor swimming pool. The hotel has that ‘grand’ feeling the moment you step though the entrance.
The hotel is very close to ski path. The staff is very friendly. Facilities such as swimming pool did not meet expectations (cold watter). There are ni facitilies listed (darts and table tennis).
I still continue to think that this is one of the best hotels in Bulgaria. Not just the facility, but the staff. It’s just world class. The guests who visit are also a higher class.
- The Spa is a real plus.
- The appartment is very spacious and confortable.
- The hotel has all the facilities (ski rental, massages on demand, restaurant)
The food was good and we had diversity
Nice sauna
Good location
Nice staff
Very big establishment
Good ski instructor- you have a facility at the hotel
