Location is very good, with restaurants and bars close by.
The hostel's bar was right in front of my room. It was very noisy until 4am. The room and bed were small (the bathroom was huge though) and the paint smell was really strong. Very poor wifi connection in the room.
Great location, we felt very safe. Lots of places to go eat close to the hostel. Close to subway. They arrange taxis if needed. Staff was friendly and spoke english. The area outside has a cool bar where breakfast is also served.
Breakfast was very tasty but on the small side. (Fixed breakfast, no buffet)
Breakfast you should be to get more food if hungry
We arrived in Rio at our hostel and found a cute and nice designed hostel with a cool bar to meet Brazilians and as well other travelers. The area is absolutely cool (Botafogo) to explore Rio, it is close to famous beaches and has a lot cool restaurants and bars in walking distance. Good place for young people and couples.
The staff were very helpful, I requested a bottom bunk as I am a 'mature' backpacker and they moved me into another dorm which had a spare bottom bunk as there wasn't one available in the 9 dorm I had booked. They were very helpful. Top quality mattresses and nice decor. Breakfast of cheese, ham and roll, piece of fruit, fruit juice and coffee / tea. Disliked nothing. Except that the mattress was such good quality that it was difficult to leave! An excellent choice of hostel for Botofogo.
A perfect base for a sight seeing holiday. Great location with shops restaurants close and very safe. The hostel has a lovely modern decor and is very clean. Breakfast is served on the outside patio area. I would recommend paying for the bigger double room as it is a lovely size and higher up, so better for less noise. All in all, I would say this hostel is more like a hotel. The staff could not have done more for us!
The location is excellent
The rooms are so small for the amount of beds in each one. The breakfast is almost nothing and you feel that you are bothering the staff when you have question about the city. The price is too much for the place, I dont know if there are better options because Rio is really expensive, but I wouldnt back to this hostel.
Family Feeling Vibe. Good Breakfast. Outstanding workers Stuff.
Some lack of maintenance.
very nice staff prime location in the heart of Botafogo close to Metro station very safe
hygiene in toilets
the location is good , very close to the botafogo station
the room is ultra small and we can barely open our luggage. there is no place to hang our clothes even we have hangers. The door had some problem and we got stock in the room twice for an hour to try to open the door, they asked someone to fix it on the next day though, but still wasn't a pleasant memory to get stuck in the room for an hour not only a minute. We didn't enjoy our stay in this hostel at all.
The location was great and the staff was even better,
I Stayed here while the world cup was on so it was a bit more expensive and busier, the bunks in the 6 beds dorms are very high and could trouble some, lucky for me i only had one night up there then moved to a bottom bunk when it became free. Showers were blocked when I as there and the toilets were a bit of a mess the longer the day went on.
The staff were extremely friendly and it was in a safe area
Amazing location near Botafogo metro for easy transport around Rio. Friendly, knowledgeable and approachable staff. Clean and tidy.
Party/bar outside hostel (Fri/Sat) was great but still loud when sleep was needed :( Shared male bathroom/shower are downstairs so had to walk through hostel.
Perfect Hostel for Backpacking! A lot of nice people from all over the world, very cool bar outside, good lunch.
Just not the biggest comfort, but thats okay.
Staff were very friendly, genuinely helpful and welcoming. Wifi worked well, and it's a very cool setup.
Lock on our door didnt work when we arrived, and still didn't 5 days later. Luckily we were right next to the reception, so they could just keep an eye on our room while we were out. But for the price we paid, this isn't really satisfactory.
The hostel is very clean, great staff ,nice bathrooms and in a great location in Botofogo, which is great base to explore Rio
Good internet connection, clean sheets and towel provided upon arrival, very good neighborhood
The communal spaces are small and not clean, the bedrooms are small and 3 bunks tall, and the breakfast sucks. I spent a few nights at the Meiai Hostel which is just two blocks away, it's way better. Their breakfast is better, their rooms are larger and have more light, and their communal spaces are great
The staff were incredibly helpful in organising tours and advising me on what to do and where was safe. Thanks for making the experience for me!
The breakfast is not very filling but the communal kitchen area is great so I could always bulk it up a but with my own food
Excellent location and good staff
On a busy road
- Its location is just perfect, close to everything (Metro, Bus, Centre, Beach, Bars, Nightlife, Shopping, ...) - amazing staff - relaxed atmosphere - excellent bar attached to the Hostel... loved the DJ! - Breakfast until 12:30 on weekends! Awesome! :) - Excellent price-quality ratio - Wifi without any problems, fast and strong signal
- not really a critique... this is a place designed primarily for young people that travel solo or with friends, so families should have that in mind when booking
The only good thing about Contemporâneo hostel is its location, in which is central and easy to locate. other than that we would sum up our stay as horrible- and definitely unrecommended.
There are so many levels of disappointment a man can reach, but our stay in this hostel is definitely the highest peak of disappointment we ever felt.a stay that we were hoping will be joyful and comfortable turned out to be a really bad experience. It started when we arrived to the hostel, a young English-speaking Brazillian lady showed us around the facility, she was too cold and unwelcoming. she talked to us without taking her eyes off the screen in front of her, which was disrespectful and unprofessional. The bad experience continued when we headed to the showers, that were unclean especially the lady's shared shower- toilet paper on the floor, women hygiene products thrown outside of the trash cans, very unpleasant to see three days straight. If you thought that this is bad enough, please be patient. our bad experience continues through the night when we headed to bed. the noise outside prevented us from sleeping after a long day, and the staff seemed to take a big part in this noise. The last but not least, which is the hardest thing we experienced in this hostel was the breakfast- the poor poor breakfast that is served from a van parked outside the hostel, a lady which is rude and never smiled to us handed us each a tray with the following: 1 cup of juice, 1 apple (one day she forgot the apple), 1 small bun, 1 cube of butter, 2 slices of cheese and 1 slice of ham (we eat Kosher so we had to pass on the ham). we literally felt that we live in a home and being handed food from people in the streets. when my wife asked for a juice refill the lady disagreed, which felt horrible and inhuman. the breakfast was so poor that we had another breakfast from the mall right afterwards. To sum up our stay, we were disappointed beyond all levels of disappointment, we will not be staying in Contemporâneo ever again and will not recommend it to any of our friends and all people that might be interested.
We stayed in the 9 person mixed dorm. The bunk beds are three beds high and really spacious. The lockers can fit large backpacks in such as 50L. The dorm is tiny and has little floor space so you need to be organised. The girls bathroom is next door to the dorm and has three toilets, three great showers and a trough sink. Breakfast was always on time, staff were really friendly, Juliano, Cora and Martha were very helpful. Kitchen had a microwave, oven and enough worktop space, also communal things like salt and left over dry foods. Wifi was the best I've had in 7 months of travelling South America. Location is safe and ideal for the metro. There is a basket, plug sockets and light for each bunk bed which was really useful. The beds were comfy, real pillows and nice clean linen.
Kitchen could use a bigger chopping board and better knives and a tea towel. You had to ask for air-con to be turned on at 9pm but it was never forgotten to be switched off at 9am on the dot. Many rooms face onto the bar area which can be loud later than midnight sometimes. Could use more seating in the communal area for rainy days.
the location is perfect!!!!
the cleaning in the showers/wc
very friendly personnel, especially Marta and Cora, very helpful. I stayed in the female room for 4 people and did not experience any inconveniences related to the lack of space. Location is good, walking distance to the metro, 2-3 stops from Copacabana. Nice chilling area outside.
Airo off 9 am sharp If you go to bed early, the music till midnight will bother you and also if you stay on the ground floor the noise from the street will be constantly present.
Everyone spoke english, great wifi for skypeing, super close to the metro station, small party one day, tasty breakfast, very clean, the staff helped us book and print a bus ticket for ilha grande
4 person room is very small but there were only two of us so it wad good.
