The staff are very helpful and friendly. The wireless internet connection is reasonably quick and should be included in the price of your room. The breakfast is reasonable though unimaginative. The hotel is in a good location: it is safe and extremely convenient for Copacabana and Ipanema beaches. There is a wonderful view from the roof of the hotel. Rooms ending 03, 04, 05, and 06 have no windows. The airconditioning in Room 404 is extremely noisy but because there is no window you are forced to use it day and night. The bed is tiny. I am only 1m 76cm tall and I could barely fit into the bed diagonally. This made it extremely uncomfortable and difficult to sleep. The safe in the room is broken. The room is clean but the floor was very sticky so bring some slippers or sandals. Apart from these problems with the room, everything else about the hotel was good or better. A friend of mine has stayed here and had a much better room, so your mileage may vary. This part of Rio is not dangerous but it is extremely expensive, even the local "cheap" supermarkets are not cheap.

I did not like anything I intend never to return at this hotel. They feature a photo of the room, but when you arrive is not like that. For one quarter the cost is too high, for half the price would be easy. Hotel is old, noisy, full of bugs in the room. The bed is tiny and my feet were out. The coffee is poor without replacement of food in the buffet. Booking should disqualify this hotel.

The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. I mean extremely. Would give them a score of 200% on friendliness and usefulness. The hotel was not very clean. It was a little noisy at night. The windows didn't close completely and so there were mosquitoes in the room. I could smell cigarette smoke coming from the adjacent room through a door that could be opened with a special key to connect the two rooms in the case of a family with kids staying at the hotel. Two light bulbs were not working the first night. When the tab for the sink in the bathroom was not used for a couple of hours and the cold water was turned on, there was rusty water coming out of the faucet for a few seconds. The tv was small and had relatively few channels, and no international ones.

The initial room shown on Booking.com was not the room that was booked - we arrived and saw a room barely large enough for a twin bed, and they expected myself and my pregnant wife to sleep on this bed. The staff then lied and told us that a penthouse room had just opened up due to a cancellation that day, and they offered us the room for an extra charge. The room ended up with 4 huge leaks in the ceiling that completely soaked the bed and floor. Turns out that the room had been under construction, and that's why it was open for us. I ended up sleeping on a chair for New Year's Eve in Rio.

From 10th floor and up, rooms ending with 2 and 3 has good views. Top floor pool too has an amazing view. No windows in 404, probaby the same for all the rooms that ends wtih a 4. ('think they call it a studio). We paid 550-600 US$ for a room for a night for the days around new years. It is too much if you end up with no fire escape and no connection with the street party. New Years 2012 the cost was 225 US$ to acces top floor, which also was a drawback for us.

Location is very good and the breakfast was pretty good too. At check in the reception staff gave us a not so nice room and pretended to hear "safe" instead of "sea view room". After asking for a nicer room with sea view they gave us one. You have to pay to get a lock for your safe in the room wich is rediculous for the hotel is expensive for what they are. The information given by the reception staff about buses to Corcavado etc was not correct. So we had to find it out ourselfs. At check out we asked for a taxi to go to the cruise terminal. They arranged a (befriended) taxi much more expensive than the normal one with a taxi meter. We refused and got a normal taxi ourselfs. They did not like that. For the money we paid for the hotel it was not worth it.

Hotel staff was excellent. Bad experience with local people as all my valuables n cards and travel documents were stolen on the beach (yes!).as I dont speak portuguese local beach municipal guards n police are really useless (ask to chase but ask me to sit n wait!). But hotel staff help me to translate, looked after the rest of my belongings, allowed me to extend in same room without any rate increase n no question asked, cared about my situation n waived some of my charges. Their help was speechlessly respected and I would recommend this hotel if anyone need help n security. Just the safe is a customed strange lock which doesnt look secured, but staff are honest n good.

We picked the hotel from a web search. It is a very good, clean hotel, perfectly located one block from copacabna beach and six blocks from ipanima. Great places to eat just outside the door, easy transportation (ask desk about using busses) to more distant locations. Because of water and mountain seperations of city parts, it can be a fairly expensive cab ride to other parts of the city. The view from the pool area on top of the building is not equaled anywhere in the city. The included breakfast is as good as any non- 5-star offers. We got our money's worth and would not have traded for any other hotel in the area. The desk has excellent command of English. Don't take the tours they offer unless you are really willing to pay top dollar for something you can obtain more cheaply with a little more effort. This is where we would stay if in Rio again. Easy and safe walking areas all around the hotel, though not ideal areas for ladies to shop, according to wife. Web connections were fine. The exchange rate at the desk was just reasonable, but convenient. We were not too fond of the very hard beds in our room but it was very quiet on the back side of the hotel, therefore a small compensation. The hotel might ask at on-line reservation if some of us older guests might prefer something a little softer!

Very good location, almost in front of the beach and cheap food right next to the hotel. Bus stop is in front of the hotel and a supermarket a couple of meters away The roof top pool has a nice view but the weather was poor so we didnt get to use it. The staff was very unfriendly obviously sees tourists as milking cows for money not to see them ever again. The consierge was bargaining with me on the taxi cost, normally costing 40 real he wanted 80 (in a 4 star hotel this happening?) + when i asked the receptionist to call me a taxi by phone (A gentleman called fabrizio) he said "i dont have time for this". For the money there is definetly better!! if you can, go somewhere else.

“The staff were really friendly and helpful. The hotel is in an excellent location, close to beach, restaurant, supermarkets and amenties, and it's really, really peaceful too. Breakfast is ok. Rooms are modern, new and clean. The roof top brilliant with pool and sun lounges. Cool hotel, I will stay again. Plus the taxi driverrs who work for the hotel were reasonable and friendly. Unusual for a busy City.” John, Jericoacoara |
