Friendly staff very accommodating. They can arrange transportation to the airport. Great location between Ipanema and Leblon. A block away from the beach. The hotel can provide beach umbrellas and towels. Also, close to a lot of nice restaurants, boutiques and Rodrigo de Feitas lake for more outdoor activities. Had no problem for Taxis to get me back to the hotel as it seemed that everyone knew it. Staff can help coordinate tours if needed as well.
Recommend to get a remodeled room on a Top floor. For example 11th. This is because they are not as noisy being away from the street. Even remodeled rooms on the lower level were noisy. There were a few more details that could be improved such as very low light in the bathroom and the shower glass had some water mineral built up. Although the room was remodeled, they missed to improve the bathroom overall. The AC was also a little noisy as it was one of those units that are mounted on the wall. As some other travelers pointed out the internet was very slow and continuously disconnected itself. It had bad stability.
Quiet sedate and staff helpful. Great location generally and particularly of breakfast restaurant.
lunch very expensive
Embarrassing experience, you would expect to see Stan Getz and Astrud discussing in the lobby the strings arrangments of Garota de Ipanema as the whole hotel seems to be unchanged since 1962. No noise isolation from outside thx to the aluminium frame of the windows which cannot be competely closed, the furniture is old and in very poor conditions despite I had a LUXURY room. Definitively guys you must put lot of money in yr investment if you still want customers to pay almost 200 euros per night.
Location was great just a few hundred yards from the beach and centre of Ipanema town.
Room was very dated and in desperate need of modernisation. Pool was extremely small and in fact never saw anyone in there.
Wifi was very slow and poor connectivity. Rooms a bit dated.
Rude staff No service spirit
Old hotel, needing refurbishment almost in any corner.
The breakfast buffet was outstanding. Enjoyed it daily, as well as the views from the 23rd floor restaurant. Location is great, just 1 block from the beach. Plus, the hotel offers free lounge chairs once you;re at the beach.
Did not particularly like the black mold we saw in the bathroom between the tiles. The bathroom was in need of a major update, entire hotel was very tired.
Very hospitable and patient front desk that spoke english, spanish and portuguese. helpful with good restaurant recommendations and driver hires and logistical suggestions. views from terrace restaurant/pool area great for evening cocktail and morning coffee. breakfast included in room rate. good rate for location. 1 block from the beach. reserved lounge chairs and umbrellas on the beach aswell as checkout towels at hotel.
dated room decor but not in the room so no big deal. 1/2 rooms are updated and modern, other 1/2 are not (the rates tell you the difference); photos are true representation.
Many things, as far as Rio Hotels this is very good value for money. Friendly staff, good breakfast and unbeatable position. WELL DONE! Oh, and the best balcony in Rio!
WI-FI it is a nightmare.. Air conditioning is not very good
Location, close to the beach. Nice pool on the terrace.
The bathroom had poor illumination. The window was really dangerous
Staff were helpful and when we told them we forgot our power adapter they sent one to our room within 20 minutes which was excellent. Close to the beach in Ipanema and nice area for hotel guest with loungers and umbrellas at no extra cost. The breakfast buffet was very nice with a great view of the city on the top floor.
Wi-Fi in the room was poor. I think is deliberate to encourage you to use their business centre. For £175 per night the shower should not leak.
Location was good
All the rest was bad, extremely expensive and the rooms are very bad and dirty. The pool is bad. The staff is not friendly. Breakfast is not good.
I liked the staff at reception as they were always very helpful. I liked the breakfast on the 23rd floor which had great variety and service. I liked the location is it was only a block to Ipanema Beach and bus transport.
I did not like being threatened with a booking cancellation after I had booked through booking.com which was approved. The hotel demanded prepayment a few days prior to our arrival. They demanded a signed approval form which was difficult as we were travelling. I did not like that the bed was not properly made.
Spacious room (premium), good shower, TV size, view and WiFi connection. Comfortable bed and lots of storage. One of the nicest japanese all you can eat restaurants in Ipanema is located downstairs. Beach is 1 block away and busy commercial street is another block away.
Reception was sloppy. It took some time to get someone to talk to you and there was not much courtesy (telling me about the hotel or breakfast hours). I needed to ask all. Also the common facilities are dated (the room I stayed was in much better condition).
If you are looking for a 4 star hotel.. make sure you stay away from room 2005!! These old 4-5 star hotels are getting away with murder!! They send a picture of one of their nice rooms to booking.com and when you get to there they stick you in a room poorer than a 2 star b n'b! To be honest.. they might be complying with the star rating in some regards as an hotel.. but I believe that there is a total lack of control from whoever is awarding these ratings. They probably were awarded when the hotel was first built and that's it. Maintenance of the place to ensure they keep the standard and regular inspections by star rating entities should be in compulsory! Too all rooms!! Although I discussed it with booking.com and I know is not their fault and that the hotels are responsible for the information they provide to booking.com, it is a shame how such thing can have a bad reflection and probably some negative impact in such a good service.. has booking.com ever considered in letting people post a couple of photos? Because what these hotels are forgetting is that everyone carries a smart phone in their pocket these days!! So basically.. everyone can be an hotel "inspector"! Thanks! :)
Some people in the concergiery are good, resolve problems in time and in manners.
Some staff in the concergerie are less capable and aproachable as courtesy to resolve questions and situations.
.The perfect Location. The good breakfast. The comfortable Bed it the room. Good service on the beach
Very old hotel with the old and sometimes broken furniture. It was not so clean in the room, the Roommate was just ignoring to clean our room. Overpriced.
Location, Location, Location. Awesome location just a block from Ipanema beach (great views of the beach, Christ the Redeemer, and much of Rio from the top floor where breakfast is served) and a block from the main drag of Ipanema with lots of shopping, cafes, etc. Felt very safe even during Carnivale. Great, patient, helpful staff.
Very dated rooms that were very over-priced. Horrible wifi in that we had to go to our hallway in order for the wifi to work.
- Great Location. - Kind staff. - Lovely view from top (where restaurant is located).
Facilities were extremely poor - severely outdated and dirty. The room they initially gave me had a carpet that was so dirty it was anti-hygienic. Carpet on the corridors was also extremely dirty. Room smelled bad. The bathroom was extremely dark and very old. The floor of the bathroom was unleveled. The electricity seemed dangerous (the plug on the wall of the bathroom partially melted my hairdryer's plug - I told the staff and they did nothing about this). Very low value for money and very uncomfortable experience. Do not recommend it at all. The pictures on their booking page are completely deceiving. I'm not sure if they may have refurbished some of the rooms and those are the only ones showing on the pictures, but these pictures do not portray what the hotel is like.
Decent sized comfortable rooms, a really nice breakfast room at the top of the hotel (there's a small but adequate swimming pool up there too) with amazing views of Rio, and it's very close to lots of shops, restaurants and of course Ipanema beach
The check in was far too long
Very good location!! Nice views and great breakfast.
The staff is very unprofessional. They cannot tell you anything. The tall young dark guy and the young crazy read head are simply bad. They are unfriendly and don't have a clue of anything.
location; price value
Some staffs needs training
Service was friendly and helpful. Free, fast wifi was great. Breakfast a huge plus.
Air-conditioning was too too noisy to use at night -- but room stayed cool enough.
