I don't really know what he other reviews on here are complaining about...this place is fine (well for the price I paid, which was discounted). The location is spectacular and pretty close to beautiful tabatinga beach (bit further than in their description), the bed was fine, kitchen good, there is only cold water and a couple of times he water stopped but as soon as I asked about it they fixed it straight away so it wasn't really an issue - just keep a couple of plastic bottles filled with tap water so you have some water to use if they re not around. A/C worked just fine too. The pool was cleaned while I was there and was fine. The owner brought me soup and drove me to the bank and did shopping for me and the son took me on his moto up to he shops too so they were very nice and helpful people. I could also use the washing machine for free. It is a good option for backpackers - if there are 2 or 3 of you the price will be the same as staying in a dorm somewhere and Tabatinga beach is way nicer than Jacuma here the only backpackers' seem to be - not a party place or place to meet other travellers hough if that is what you need. Personally I enjoyed being off the gringo trail for a while!! The poor old dog is no longer around but there fleas or ticks or anything else mentioned in other reviews...ticks are common in beach areas though and nothing to do with dogs neccessarily. I stayed for 2 weeks and was quite happy there.
These are the things I would change or that you should be aware of. Had a leaking sink in room - some basic repairs need to be done Cold water shower -not a problem for me as it was stinking hot. They need an extractor fan in the kitchen and/or insect screening on the bathroom window and panels in front door so you can have air circulating without being invaded by mosquitos (there are lots!) They should also put a small fan in the room so you have he option to you use that rather than the a/c all the time. There is not always someone around or the person there is no where to be found so they need to have a system to be able to get hold of them - a bell or way to call their mobile. Only a couple of restaurants in area and it is too far to walk to shops etc so you need to get groceries in Jacuma - but family will help you with that. Or ride on a moto will only cost you R3.
close to a nice beach and there were monkeys in the garden that the kids liked
terrible beds, the air conditioner didn't work properly, the room was infested with mosquitos, hardly any food served at breakfast, no hot water in the shower
