The biggest benefit of this hotel is its location – 300 meters from the beach (you and up right at the gay beach if you are interested) and close to numerous restaurants and bars. The staff was very friendly and let us check-in early – as soon as the room was ready. Rio is extremely expensive city so you need to re-adjust your expectations that you may have when seeing the price of this hotel, restaurants, etc. The breakfast is good but the room where it is served is very small for a hotel of this size. The bathrooms are basic, more like 3 start hotel.

Location, gay friendly, trendy, breakfast...all great attributes. I stayed in the Jr Suite and while it was a huge room it did not feel luxurious. Rugs, better furniture and light fixtures would make it a much better room. The bathroom was equally dull.

The breakfast was excellent, the staff in the restaurant were friendly and very helpful. Having breakfast there was extremely worth the extra over other hotels we have stayed. The restaurant for lunch and dinner was also excellent. The location was ideal and close to the beach. The room and bathroom were clean. The roof top pool was very nice. The bed was extremely comfortable. The hotel staff were helpful. Transfers from and to the airport were arranged and the drivers were very pleasant and efficient. Due to some problems with booking, hotel upgraded to a larger suite. We also received extension to 6:00PM and paid the extra 1/2 day rate, well worth it. The staff did not have a full understanding of places to go and see, directions to places and at times were not personable but rather just doing what a large hotel does in general. The rooms could use some updating, the lobby furniture could also be replaced with more current furniture. The walk to the beach, was not pleasant and the hotel should push the city to clean in up, very smelly. There needed to be more lounges next to the pool. The hotel should supply a list of places to see, places to eat etc., with addresses and locations. There seemed to be some problems with the hotel losing the reservation from Booking.com, that caused some concern on the day we were leaving for Buenos Aires

Location was fantastic..Right down street from beach one direction and down the street from major shopping and restaurants/bars the other. In general no complaints. Room service can be beyond slow when the hotel is busy. Took almost 90 minutes for some coffee and eggs to show up even when I ordered night before with a specified delivery time.

Good location. Too expensive for the services and amenities. Breakfast could be improved. Wifi should be free when you pay that much for a room. They gym is in poor condition.

The Golden Tulip - Ipanema Plaza has a fantastic location. You are one quick block away from the beach. Not to mention you are extremely close to life-guard station #9, which is one of the beach's hot spots. Furthermore, the hotel is located on a street which is lined with great bars and restaurants - foodies rejoice! We felt very safe in Ipanema and had a great time exploring Rio! The Golden Tulip - Ipanema Plaza was very pricey. However, this could have been due to our trip during the week of carnival. Also, be prepared to spend a lot on food. We easily spent $30-50 US per person per meal at the various restaurants in Ipanema. Keep in mind though that this is a nice part of town and we were there when prices were hiked throughout the city.

Great location for Ipanema beach and nightlife. Very friendly and helpful staff, and good security. Free wifi - although a bit slow at peak periods. The quality of breakfast was a little disappointing, however there is an excellent cafe within 100 meters that is a great alternative.

The restaurant. The air conditioner does not work properly; there are no actual temperasture numbers on the dial for control; it also does not seem to remove humidity from the air. I had it on max and felt hot and sweaty...

The hotel's relaxed, polite and attentive gay-friendly staff and gay-friendly atmosphere, as well as the hotel's location near the gay beach and near the Ipanema subway station. The staff lets the tourist buses stand by, with their engine on, idling next to the hotel's breakfast open-air terrace, while their buses clients (hotel guests) make their way on board of the buses, disrupting the peace and quiet for everyone on the hotel's breakfast terrace. I brought this nuisance up to the attention of the front desk, but no action was taken by the front desk to ask the bus drivers to keep their engines turned off until they were fully loaded with passengers and ready to move.

Its perfect location for enjoying Ipanema's to its maximum : beach, shopping, restaurants, nightlife. Helpfulness of some of its staff. Its services/price ratio is probably about 15% overrated ...

I have stayed at the Plaza four times, now. The facilities are excellent and the diningroom great. However, the crown jewel is the staff. They are considerate, courtious, efficient, and entirely professional.

Good location. Spacious room with a small sea view. Room was ready on my arrival despite the fact that I arrived quite early. I also was allowed to keep the room until 2 P.M. on the day of my departure. Very badly lit up corridors, gave a gloomy impression. Breakfast was not very impressive.

Location - a few minutes from the beach 1.Lack of variety in the breakfast menu - 3 days of exactly the same fruit, scrambled egg etc would be bad enough - but 30 days - unbelievable for a 4 star hotel! 2.Lack of tea/coffee facilities in the room - we travel extensively - there are few 4 or 5 star hotels nowadays that do not provide this basic convenience. 3.Bed sheets - we had a Kingsize bed - 50% of the time the bed was made with sheets a size too small. 4.In general (there were a few exceptions) most of the staff seemed unhappy or disinterested - suggest some hospitality training be given. 5.Dirty net curtains - the net curtains were filthy and appeared to have not be washed for some time. 6.Noise - we were on the (top) 17th floor - there was a daily ‘thumping’ (as though heavy weights were being dropped) above us every morning and afternoon - I assume from the café above?? 7.Poor quality of gym equipment e.g. the multi-gym was unstable (wobbling seat) and dated. 8.No make-up mirror in bathroom. 9.Plastic shower curtains versus shower screens - consequently the bathroom floor flooded each time the shower was used. 10.Having to wait 10 mins (with the water running) for the hot water to come through to the shower each morning. Summary: a 3 star hotel charging 4 star prices
