In Botafogo in a charming historic area of Rio de Janeiro, the Contemporâneo Hostel is just over 1 mile from Copacabana Beach. It has free Wi-Fi, a bar with snacks and drinks and a communal kitchen.

Extraordinarily helpful and efficient staff. Arrived at 2 am and the front desk guy accompanied me to my room and patiently explained everything to me (using the card to open door, air-con, breakfast times, desktop use for guests), and at 9 am, he gave me sound advice on what to visit first and how to get there. Close to metro. Other staff were also friendly and helpful. There are 2 desktops with internet access for guests, free of charge.
- position: safe, close to the subway that you can take until midnight, close to everything - staff: very kind and helpful
- breakfast is good, but very simple
- staff very friendly and helpful. The girl at reception even ran out to the main road to get a taxi when one did not show up quickly when called - staff all spoke good English (perhaps to a fault, as attempts to speak Portuguese were ignored) - very clean - large, comfortable common areas, including large-screen TV - ample breakfast - safe location in Botafogo, close to metro - reasonable in-room cable TV reception and good TVs. WiFi good in most rooms and common area. Also two free computer terminals
- breakfast, while ample, lacked variety or imagination. Also, no eggs (blamed on lack of suitably equipped stove) - while shiny and new, the place lacks character. The smallish, cookie-cutter rooms suggestive of a child's room with pre-fab furniture (single beds). Room lacked storage space - few nearby attractions, necessitating frequent metro or bus (3 - 3.50 reias per trip) trips - somewhat expensive
Staff and comfort
Clean and nice
Distance not walkable to the beach but plenty of buses and near the subway.
The hostel is practically brand new so everything is in great condition, clean, and decoration is great. The staff was really nice and location is perfect, just a 3 minute walk from Botafogo station.
very friendly font desks ladies. we joined the local tour to feva and which is good too. rooms are clear and location is good and safe. breakfast is good too.
shower is quite high and not very good for girl. but is not very important.
We had a great welcome in this hostel, which is actually more a hotel than a hostel. It was our honeymoon, so they provided us a free upgrade to a superior room and even had a bottle of icecold champagne ready! The room is very large and nicely decorated. Each room has a city-theme with a lot of great photos of the city. We tried Paris and London and they were both great. The hostel is 3 minutes walking to Botafogo metrostation, and located conveniently in between Centro/Lapa on one hand and Copacabana/Ipanema on the other side. Also Christo Redentor and Sugar Loaf Hill are very close and it just takes you 15 minutes by bus to get there. Furthermore they don’t rise the prices on the weekends as a lot of other hostels do.
Not the cheapest deal in town, but if you’re willing to spend a little more for much extra comfort, this a great place. One point of improvement is that not all staff knows everything about tours like a transfer to Ilha Grande or paragliding, however it seems they are improving this by hiring some new people. Note they don’t have a guest kitchen, but if you need some boiled water they are willing to help.
Personel is very helpful and dedicated!
I liked virtually everything. The hostel looks like new and well maintained. We can notice the preoccupation with details, such as board games, PCs with Internet and a very big LED TV set in the hall, poufs and armchairs all over the hostel, polyglot staff (all of them speak at least Portuguese, English and Spanish), free coffee all day long and snacks machine, etc. The location is something to be highlighted here. Botafogo beach, buses to the main points around and subway are within walkable distance. The staff is VERY friendly and helpful. They want to do everything to please you. Hygiene and cleaning are very satisfactory. I had some minor problems with the water of the shower (too cold initially), but managed to solve it quite fast. Though the location is privileged, it is very calm and you will probably be able to sleep without problems. Sometimes there are some little parties or gastronomic festivals (e.g. pizza, Halloween, etc.).
The WiFi connection was excellent in the shared areas of the hostel, but in the rooms it was intermittent. In the last day the TV in the sleeping room stopped working. Since it was the last day, I didn't even care... If I had asked the staff to help me, they would certainly do so. The breakfast time could be a little extended. Some days I overslept and missed the breakfast.
Amazingly helpful staff that consistently went above and beyond to ensure I had the best stay possible.
Top staff, very symphatic and helpful. Top location, Metro nearby. We would definitely come back next time in Rio.
Fantastic location with great and helpful staff. Very close to the metro station and bus stops. The common areas are spacious and lovely. Coffee is served all day (would be nice if there was hot water for tea as well). Very clean and good hot water in the shower.
It is called a hostel but it more like a hotel, I don't think there are even dorm rooms here. The common areas are fabulous, it would be nice if there was a bar to be able to make more use of this space. There is a kitchen, unfortunately only for staff use. Again, a reason that this is not really a hostel.
The hostel and the staff do what they should do. And they do it very well.
This hostel was opened for the World Cup of soccer, so it is brand new! Great room! Nice staff. Everything is close by!
The breakfast started a bit late (only at 8 AM) and I had to leave at 7:30 without having it.
The quality of WiFi could be better
location was ok place was clean
price was way too high i had a room next to reception so it was quite Noisy no proper window in the room for this price it's properly not acceptable wi fi could be better
Everything! Especially the staff, makes you feel like family!
I would definitely recommend injoy hostel. Yara was very welcoming on our arrival and helpful with pointing out local places to eat and drink. The hostel location is good and the rooms are very comfortable, clean and well decorated. Everything feels very new and homely. This was our favourite place to stay in Rio.
Nothing! Everything was great!!
The hostel is very new and the room was clean and nice. It's very close to the subway station. I'll stay here again!
Internet wasn't working properly in my room.
Friendly staff, breakfast, modern style of the hostel
nothing to say
Very clean and new, simple but comfortable twin rooms with the facilities of a hostel... A good mix for "backpackers" looking for a nicer option than your usual hostel. Staff is very keen on helping out and they speak English :)
This hostel is more like a small hotel. The staff are fantastic and the breakfast is very enjoyable. The rooms are clean and comfortable. Would recommend this place to anyone. The next time I visit rio I will be back to stay there
Helpful staff Cleanliness of rooms Good location
Great staff. Great experience. Will do anything to make your stay better. Just ask :)
