The staff were very good (thanks Silvana), the rooftop pool was great, our room was large and comfortable with a good view. Breakfast was included and was absolutely fabulous (lots and varied). The location was quite close to the beach (Copa). Boardwalk, and walking in Rio. The elevators acted odd from time-to-time; this is only an observation- it was only mildly annoying...overall the Merlin was everything we expected. Howe ver, as tourists we are very identifiable, therefore, men/women do not wear jewelry [ie:no neck chains, bracelets or earrings]...not even costume bling-bling. Some people will think to 'deprive' you of it...I Speak from an unfortunate experience !!!

The hotel was well situated for the beach and the sights of Rio.Breakfast was good, and the swimming pool/ area was pleasant.Staff were friendly and helpful. The confusion concerning the car park, the high price paid should automatically include car parking. I thought the bedroom furniture v.poor quality/old fashioned.Expensive for what it was.

Beautiful bit older hotel. Everything just gleamed and only a short walk to the beach. Staff very unfriendly and never smiled other than bell boys and pool bartenders. This was uniform at front desk and restaurants so we chose to eat elsewhere every meal other than the included breakfast buffet.

It is a very nice hotel, the location is good if you don´t need to be beachfront. Only 1 pillow per bed. We reserved a triple room and the third bed was a folding bed. The shampoo and soap are in conteiners attached to a wall but even that they where full, the shampoo and soap, doesnt work properlly.

The reception, it is nice. But the rest is totally neglected, as for the beds and furniture, as for the staffs actitude. Never again. Rude staff, poor food, noisy, dirty. Looks like a motel once you are inside your room.

The hotel was close to the Rio Sul Mall and not a bad walk from the beach The room had many broken things, the elevators are very slow, the front desk staff spoke English, but were not overly helpful.

Great location, Nice staff. Good breakfast. Nothing particularly wrong... A simple "European" styles tourist hotel. Clean but not fancy. Road noise from busy Copa street was noticeable.

The stay was consistent, and once you got used to the way things were done you weren't disappointed. Quality and choice at breakfast was very good. The service and ambience is cold and uninviting which could have been partly due to language barriers. They offer free wireless but there must be a small cap because it is very slow, I'd rather have paid for hi speed. The hotel most certainly isn't 4 star, it may have been when it opened but it hasn't been looked after and the service doesn't make for what the building lacks. You shouldn't pay more than between $100 - $150 us per night.

The room was sparse but clean, no International satalite tv, so all in Portuguese!! Powerful extra hot shower, definatley the best part of the room - Resteraunt wasn't great as all it offered during my stay was evening buffet, but the breakfast buffet was excellent and definatley value for money. 10 minute walk down Princessa Isabella to the beach or a 10 minute walk to the Shopping mall under the tunnel. Would definately stay there again - Rooftop pool was excellent.

We had a mini suite which was spacious. The bathroom was extremely large with a spa bath. There was a light in the bathroom over the spa bath which we could not switch off.

The best thing about this hotel was the staff. They were all extremely friendly and helpful. The included buffet breakfast was excellent. The only real down fall to our stay here was the quality of the beds in the room. They were uncomfortable to say the least and would prevent me from staying here again. If they improve the quality of the beds I would recommend and stay at this hotel again.

Hotel staff was very willing to help with language barriers, directions to tourist sites, etc. Breakfast, which was included with room price, was excellent - many choices and pleasant room. Conveniently located. The price was excessive considing the amenities at the hotel. However, it was Carnaval time and I know they jack up the prices at that time. The room wasn't as clean as it should have been, but was okay since we didn't spend a lot of time there anyway.

The staff were friendly and helpful and the service was all we expected. The lack of tourist information about services available within Rio and the sights that we should see.
