Praia Ipanema Hotel    

The Praia Ipanema is in a brilliant location right on the Ipanema beach and close to many good restaurants. Great views from the roof terrace and pool although it's a bit on the small side for such a large hotel. Buffet breakfast also good.

The hotel is looking a bit jaded and needs a facelift but the location and sea view balcony do compensate.

Can get quite busy around the pool

We loved the location of the hotel, the breakfast buffet, the pool area on the top floor, that all the rooms have some sort of view of the beach and the staff.

We didn't care for the decor of the room, it's quite plain for the money we pay per night.

The roof terrace with its view, beautiful small pool, sauna and bar- restaurant are awesome! The beach (between Post 10 and 11) in front of the hotel with chairs and parasol is very relaxing, large and spacious, the best in Rio, with kind people trying to sell you bikinis, sunglasses, hamacs,... ! The people at the reception and the frontdoor are very helpful and kind, the ladies who do the rooms and the laundry service too.

The lifts are a pain (one not working during our stay). The roomcleaning can be better. Wifi is bad and has to be paid for. Ask for rooms on top floors (13 and above) with view on the two hermanos and or the beach..

Helpful reception staff especially Alberto who gave excellent advice on tours taxis and restaurants. Excellent to fabulous breakfasts if you like fruit.

Noisy first night due to scaffolding being cleared during the night. Booked a "master deluxe room" but it seemed a standard room to us.

Excellent position few steps from Ipanema beach, amazing sea view, nice roof top pool.

Staff attitude, especially front desk (we had to complaint to get the room we booked as initially they gave us a different room type with side view). Poor breakfast. Rooms need urgent renovation. Tiny and unconfortable bathroom. In room safe with a daily fee. Unsafe and slow elevators. Noise in the corridors early morning, we had to use ear plugs. Wi-fi expensive and not working. Worst thing of our stay: we used a number advertised in our room by the hotel to call Italy collect, we were charged 44 euro even before we could start speaking and even if the conversation lasted only 3 minutes we never got the refund we were promised. Since January 31st we are waiting for a clarification from the hotel or a contact number of the company they suggested to make an official complaint; we already sent 2 emails but nobody is answering. While we were at the hotel nor concierge or front office staff were able to explain the reason of the charge or supply the contact info we requested. Also nobody was apparently aware that in the rooms there is a plastic sign with the hotel logo with the advertisement of the telephone company. We asked to speak with a manager about this problem but they ignored us, they promised upon departure that would send us news via email but this never happened. We are very disappointed and will never go back to Praia Ipanema Hotel nor suggest it to our friends.

Clean hotel, nice location on the beach in Ipanema. Good value for the money compared to similar hotels. One of the few hotels on the beach with a balcony overlooking the beach. Very nice daily breakfast buffet. Rooftop pool is nice, but small and often crowded.

When you look closely, this hotel was lacking in a few areas. Of the seven nights we stayed there, we only had internet access for one night! There were periodic problems with the elevator. Although at first glance, the beachfront area appears very nice, be aware that it is located next to a channel that needs to have tons of sand cleared out of it every day. Workers use noisy, heavy-duty equipment a few hours each day - quite a distraction and an eyesore!

Location is amazing, upstairs restaurant great view over the beach. Staff very helpful. I never ate there.

Room was a bit 'rough around the edges' needs updating and redecorating, my room was adjoining with a door to next doors so you could here like the people next door were sharing my room, fortunately only disrupted me for a short while as they were out all the time. The pool area and sun lounger bit is tiny, hard to get a space, only about 6 loungers and 8 other seating places. Overall it's really a 3 star place in a 5 star location, anywhere else and you would be disappointed to pay the rates. The Caeser Copocabana is proper 5 star.

Stayed here several time... The confort of the rooms are optimum. Swimming pool area is really nice, breakfast as well.

Arriving at the hotel, my room was not conform to what I book... I had a side view of Ipanema when I booked a front. When I show the description of my room to the staff they told me the mistake was from booking.com, when it's not (both view appear on 2 different kind of room...) The arrangement they find was me to stay in this room or leave while paying it as well, basically pay and shut up.... More than dishonnest and really disappointed for an hotel of this standing... The hotel restaurant is overpriced and is not that good value for money wise.

The hotel does not try to please their guests, it prefer to follow internal politics rather then make minimum efforts towards guests satisfaction. We, a couple, was staying in a room with 2 singles beds and we kindly asked the hotel to make the beds as it were a couple one, putting the sheets of a double bed- a simple and non-cost solution that would make our vacation better but that was totally disregarded by Praia Ipanema Hotel. Moreover, the room service is bad bad, we asked for 2 differentes sandwiches one with salmon and the other with parma, and they came with so little salmon and parma, a slight little piece, with a lot of bread! That we could almost notice the flavour... Summing up, very expensive for very little benefit.

The hotel was in a great location and there was a lovely breakfast.

The pool pictures really sell the hotel, thats why I booked. Dont expect these standards in the rooms, if you dont expect this you'll be fine, think 1980 beach apartment, all clean and comfortable though.

No free Wi-Fi is a joke these days when every cheap hostel in Rio offers it to you. The roof-top pool could be a bit bigger to allow for some swimming and not just bathing.

A perfectly fine hotel with a nice room overlooking the beach - nothing special but with a very good breakfast (fresh fruit and coffee!) and very helpful and friendly staff, super super friendly and not at all unhappy at our total lack of portuguese, all spoke excellent English and seemed happy that we could only say obrigada/ obrigado on our first jetlagged day. Very nice little roof pool too with wine served to 'bathers'. Really quite nice.
