central, cheap, has a nice garden and common room
toilets and rooms were quite dirty breakfast consisted of bread, butter and coffee
Location - Located close to shopping areas and on top of a hill so has good views around it Cheap - Was the cheapest accommodation, that I could easily find, in Ouro Preto
Staff (or lack of) - I only saw a member of staff once in the whole three days I was there. Couldn't wind her when I wanted to checkout so had to leave the money on the counter. Other visitors there at the time had similar issues. Reception doesn’t seem to be 24hr even during proper operation. Breakfast - Consisted of plain coffee, jot chocolate powder with no milk, some not properly cooked cake and bread rolls with butter. I had to cook my own eggs - mainly this was because there were no staff around but in all respects a pretty poor effort for somewhere advertising they offered breakfast Cleanliness - the showers were quite dirty and unmaintained as was the place in general. (There were old pants, that someone may have forgotten, under the cushions on the couch; it doesn't look like anyone tidies the place very often). The courtyard at the back (although could be really nice) looked like it hadn't been cleaned in quite awhile and there was rubbish around. Facilities - the showers and toilets were VERY small. In the room I had (Casual 2) there were gaps in the ceiling and dust etc. was falling down onto my bed. There was a leaking pipe just outside (in a very messy storage area) that was constantly dribbling water the whole time.
- Breakfast (som days no coffee or no milk, never fruits nor cheese) - No lockers - No security - Doors don´t have key in the dorm - No reception (there is never someone at the reception, the playce is abandoned) - very dirty (bathroom cleaned 1x per week, room looked like it wasn´t cleaned for more than 6 month, kitchen very dirty)
It was a nice hostel with comfortable dorm beds. Wifi was good as well. Breakfast was Coffee, Bread rolls, dulce de leche, cheese, fruit and cake. Free use of kitchen and hot water showers. Not too far from bus station and train to Mariana.
Had a small problem when I checked in. I initially paid for 2 nights and asked at the time of check in if I could extend my stay by 1 more night (although, the lady I spoke to didn't speak English and my Potuguese is terrible) I was told yes, no problem. Unfortunately, after the two days, when I asked to pay for another night, I was told that they were full with 50 guests and that I basically had to leave. This was possibly miscommunication and therefore partly my fault so if you stay here and want to stay longer pay up front because they get very busy at weekends. Everything else was good.
Great place- loved that it was a short walk to the main area of town, and that we were literally next door to one of the richest churches in Brazil.
Excellent location and perfect view of the town.
It is close to churches and museums
They just offer coffee and not milk or tea. The bedroom has an open window which can not be closed and the weather at night is cold
