We stayed at the Solar do Carmo for 2 nights in March. The hotel is situated quite close to the old town on a street of renovated colonial style buildings. Some of the surrounding houses have yet to be renovated but don't be put off by the exterior. Inside the hotel is a lovely spacious reception area, decorated in a traditional style. The layout is strange and unconventional. We had room 201 which was under the cafe/bar area. It was a lovely spacious room with a nice balcony overlooking the bay. Breakfasts were provided each day and you could have freshly made omelettes and a good selection of friut, bread and sweet cakes. The staff were very welcoming and helpful. Safety is an issue in Salvador and we were given plenty of advice on where not to go! Internet access is free but reception didn't reach our bedroom. We loved this hotel and would highly recommend to other travellers.

The hotel is managed by the owners, which gives a personal touch to all recommendations. They care about you having a good experience. Noise. Solar do Carmo is an old property that has been renovated. Design is good, but the architects have completely missed noise reduction! The rooms have windows and doors with wooden frames, which don´t close well, and walls are very thin. Result: inside the room you feel as if you were in the middle of a busy street in Pelourinho. Since a hotel fundamental value proposition is a good night of sleep, I gave Solar do Carmo a low score no matter how nice the owners are.

The interior of the hotel is very well designed and full of interesting paintings. The room was not very big, but functional and arranged with a good sense of taste. The breakfasts were delicious, full of homemade dishes with very original flavors. We were eat them on the terrace, where we could enjoy a beautiful view at Salvador's bay. The owners of the hotel were very helpful, especially Flavia, who gave us great tips what is worth to see in the city. The location of the hotel is perfect, very close to Pelourinho. We recommend it a lot!

Room was beautiful.Flavia (owner) was super friendly and helpfull.Breakfest was one of the best we'd had in Brazil. Hotel is overlooking the bay and you can have you breakfast at the terrace. Love it! We arrrived late at night and spare bed wasn't made. My sister eneded up speeping without bed sheet or proper pillow. The night receptionist wasn't picking up phone calls and wasn't at the reception area. We've tried to call him for over 45 mins.

Flavia and the other staff at Solar do Carmo were extremely helpful and friendly, giving us all kinds of tips for things to see and do. The hotel was perfectly located - an easy (and beautiful) walk from Peulorinho, but far away enough to escape the noise and bustle.

The owners are incredible especially the wife Flavia who painted all the artwork in the pousada and truly has transformed the place into a gallery of serenity and distinctly Brazilian beauty. The receptionists also have backgrounds as tour guides, so they are excellent Salvador references and pointed us to the best spots. I stayed here with my parents and we are already planning another trip over there as soon as possible! Wonderful!

The hotel was attractive and clean. The staff was friendly, knowledgeable and attentive to our needs. We only speak English and we do not speak any Portuguese, but this was not a problem. The owners are fluent in English and staff members speak English well enough and were very helpful. Our language differences were not a barrier. The breakfast was satisfying. The view of the bay was fantastic and we enjoyed having breakfast on the terrace each morning overlooking the bay. We also had a pleasant view of the bay from our hotel room. The owners took a personal interest in our vacation. They made arrangements for us to have an English speaking personal tour guide at a moment's notice. They provided accurate, up-to-date tips on where to find the best value for exchanging currency. They made arrangements for us to have transportation from the hotel to the airport which proved cost-effective. Even after we had left the hotel and were visiting Rio, they communicated with us via e-mail and provided us with reliable and invaluable tidbits about Rio. We were even invited to contact them if we needed anything else while in Rio. This was a very kind and appreciatiated gesture, especially since we do not speak the language and were visiting Brazil for the first time. Everyone in that hotel made us feel welcomed. We definitely made the right choice in staying at Hotel Solar do Carmo. We loved Hotel Solar do Carmo! The location was convenient and the hotel was very clean and quiet. We rested nicely and felt refreshed every morning. The owners and staff were an absolute delight! Should we ever return to that area again, we would stay at Hotel Solar do Carmo.

Flavia, the joint owner of this hotel is very welcoming and goes out of her way to provide information and guidance. If you have the opportunity choose the room with a balcony view over the bay, docks and naval academy. A special effort is made to provide an extensive choice at breakfast which includes a range of freshly baked cakes and bread. Located within five minutes walk of Pelhourino but just far away to provide a restful base this hotel is highly recommended.

Camera spaziosa. Spacious room The TV did not work. The boy at the reception had been trying to fix it for half an hour but he did not succeed. They did not change either our room or the tv set. It was very boring to pass the evening in that room without TV. In fact you have to be in very early (9,00 at the latest) as the location is very dangerous. They did not even make a small discount on the bill for that. The small shower for the toilet did not work either. The only plug in the room was very risky! They sold us the tickets for the ferry to Morro de S.P., but once at the harbour we realized they had charged us with 20 reals per person (3). I won't suggest this hotel at all!

Tha hotel is perfectly located in a quiet and charming area of the historic city center. From the terrace it has a beautiful view of the bay. The hotel owners are charming and made us fell very wellcome. Flavia spent a lot of time with us to explain all the walks we could do to explore Salvador safely. She has a great knowledge of the city and thanks to her we had a great time! She is also an artist and the author of all the painting in the hotel wich add atmosphere and charm to the place. The staff was very helpfull and all our needs were met, from airport transfer to web check-in to luggage storage. Our room was very big and confortable. The bed and pillows were ecxellent. Everything was spotless clean. Breakfast was also very good including fresh fruits and local dishes. A cook was present to prepare eggs and tapiocas. During breakfast on the beautiful terrace Flavia will be there to help you to make a perfect program for the day or just to tell you some local stories that will enhance your brazilian experience! We had a wonderfull stay at Solar do Carmo and recommend it strogly! You will not find a better place in Salvador!

We would not hesitate to recommend this Hotel to anyone; young or old, single or with a family. The hotel itself is a beautifully restored colonial house, which has its own unique style, with local artwork displayed throughout. This gives the rooms and communal areas a very homely feel, far from the bland, impersonal and standardised feel of many larger chain hotels we have stayed at. Breakfast was a wonderful mixture of local fruits and cakes and pastries as well as fresh omelettes. For us, one of the most enjoyable moments of our trip to Salvador was our very leisurely breakfast on the balcony overlooking the Harbour. The location is excellent for seeing all the historic sights of the Pelourinho and the local markets, as they are all a short walk from the Hotel. Most importantly for us, Flavia, the owner, provided invaluable information on where to go, which meant that we felt safe and comfortable during our stay. Flavia’s recommendation of what to see and where to eat were spot on and all her travel tips took the strain out of travelling and made everything run smoothly, so that we were free to enjoy our holiday! cannot think of anything I did not enjoy
