Beautiful grounds, interesting animals, wonderful horseback riding, friendly staff, INCREDIBLE FOOD and amount for value was unbelievable! Owner was incredibly accommodating after our reservation were not what Booking.com said they were and honored our price quoted for a nicer, larger room with AC.
Check in was difficult, directions were not clear as to the 2 different ways of getting to the property, when arriving by the "river" side no one was there and it was nearly impossible to get someone to answer our calls to bring us across the river. Also when arriving at the reservation desk, exhausted, sweating, and breathing hard, from climbing down and up the stair way to get there, was not even offered water. Said to ask for some and had to ask if the fans above us could be turned on. Also received an email from Banana Bank with an offer to upgrade our room, which I replied I was interested but had a question re the cost-did not hear back from them, until it was mentioned to me at check in and the cost was not ok with me.
Centrally located near many tourist sites. Rooms were nice thought not large. The pool was nice after a hot day. The family style meals were excellent and they were very accomodating about dietary needs and serving times.
Our room ( a free upgrade to a cabana) did not have AC, which would have been appreciated. They have several wild animals on site in cages, most of which are rescues. This is very commendable. However, though the cages were of a good size, for the most part, and well maintained, it was a bit disconcerting - I'd prefer to see a monkey or parrot free.
Jungle horseback riding, in-house food (great!), Tika Too (the property jaguar), pristine property.
Rooms are very clean, air conditioned, but a little bit dated (e.g., mix 'n match furniture, no TV, no coffee maker, no safe).
The banana bank lodge is located just 5 minutes off the western highway and along the Belize River. They have horses roaming free in the area and other animals in cages which can be sometimes noisy but all add up to the character of the place. The swimming pool is clean and the garden areas well maintained. You can hire a pedal boat or canoe for free which is also fascinating. The dinner was "home style" but definitely of good quality. Several different dishes, lots of variety, good desserts, all very good. One of the dinners we have enjoyed the most in our trip.
We went in early may, off season then, and booked what is called the "chalet". This is a very large room in a concrete building with 8 beds, white walls, two fans and a bathroom. It adds nothing to a standard room a part for the many beds. Furnishing is quite poor, all beds are different, all bed liners are different, towels don't match, etc. The staff was particularly bad managed. There appeared to be no guidance at all and they were all doing their own duties with no coordination. If you ask for a pool towel to the pool guy he will point you towards the person to enquire to, but if she is not to be found there is no more help you will get from him (let alone the towels). Went to reception to check out and had to browse around for over 20min to find someone; had no luck in the end and had to leave and come back later. Overall we had a positive experience but would recommend: 1) Book the cabanas which looked really nice, or if you book the standard rooms or chalet, be prepared to a rather basic accommodation. 2) If going off season it might be a little bit slower and staff can be too relaxed. If this doesn't bother you it is a nice place to go.
the staff was amazing, the office staff so friendly and helpful, got anything we asked for, the kitchen staff worked so hard and the food was great, Cezar the young man who usually worked with the horses, was recuited to beour tour guide did an outstanding job went out of his way to take us places he thought we would be interested in,the best part though was finding out the owners John and Carolyn Carr were from Montana like us, we had the best visit knew a lot of the same people, there story and daughter Lisa were amazing, she was great at marketing . Such a beautiful farm, ranch, resort.
the plumbing needs updating
the owners were just wonderful. What a nice family. The location is out of the way in a good way. You really get the sense that you are out in nature. Wonderful huge pool. Good food. Everything was just great.
Wonderful environment to relax and hangout. The owners (Carolyn and John Carr) were interesting and engaged with us on topics ranging from astronomy to farm and ranch management. Carolyn's art is wonderful and pieces adorn many of the common area walls. The grouds were full of suprises including several aviaries, a jaguar (rescued), horses (riding options available), etc. A great swimming pool offered just the right relief from the heat in the Belmopan area. River kayaking was available, but we did not have time to take advantage of it. The complimentary breakfast was good and plentiful, and complimentary coffee was available all day. We also ate in their onsite restaurant 2 nights our of our 3 night stay and the food and service were great (family style serving).
The only negative was the lack of wifi in some of the rooms - several times I had to walk over to the office and pool area to connect.
Nice location, although only accessible by car.
Dinner is family style, which means you can't choose. There will be same meal for everybody and you will share table.
The pool area and the beauty of the location
The cockroaches in our bathroom sink and the leaking faucet
We found the owners warm, and informative about their history in this country. The staff was professional and friendly. The meals were excellent, served family style and we enjoyed visiting with all the other guests. We were upgraded with no additional charges and had a clean, romantic cabana during our stay
Wished we could have stayed longer!
Everything owners and staff very social and remarkable people. They go the extra mile to help you with anything you might wish to do or to see.
We were treated like family. We dined family style and the owners sat with us and included us in interesting conversation. On the premises there was a small "zoo" with a rescued jaguar (with which we could get close), tropical birds (which were delightful to hear early in the morning), and a monkey. The location was great in order to explore this section of Belize. This was a trip we will remember with fondness.
The staff-food-activities-John & his wife. Everything went as planed... We meet some great guests that we went rideing with and enjoyed the conversation of the movie crew & other guests at breakfast, lunch & dinner, Meals were great.
Directions to the facility...... Actual turn off is @ mile marker 49 & not 47. We spent at least 2 hours asking locals for directions. Most gave incorrect information. Larger sign for the lodge @ mile marker 49--keep grass mowed in front of sign.
Lisa and staff were amazing, very friendly and loved hearing stories about the property and animals! I loved the lush green, flowers and plants all over the property and of course the birds, jaguar, and monkey that they took in when they needed a home.
Some updating to decor (confused by the silk and velvet on chairs and bed didn't seem to mesh with the jungle atmosphere). But everything was clean, so no bad complaints.
