Belize city has a reputation that is not encouraging.
Belize city has a reputation that is not encouraging. Yet, I enjoy visiting the city as it has almost all that you can purchase in a North American City. There are areas that are considered "do not visit" zones but that is also characteristic of other cities. If you stay in the main part of the city you will be fine, but we should always be vigilant.

Belize is a good place. The people appear to be friendly. Food is good.
It is a slow pact of life.
I do feel the government should actively start looking at how to support and protect the domestic animals such as the dogs and cats as there are many stray animals roaming around everywhere.
I also noticed dogs especially were tried up but in some cases I didn't see any drinking water basins supplied for them! As an animal lover I found this unacceptable.
There was a dog at Caye Caulker that was tried up with no food and water so I had to feed it. I went to inform the police and the police asked me- "What do I want him to do about it"?
I told him I wanted them to check it out as this is animal abuse as the dog was not being cared for. I told him I would check up at the police station later to find out what was done. He then said he would send a patrol out to investigate the situation.
When I got back the dog had been removed, I don't know what happened to the dog.
The man at the animal sanctuary said that lots of tourist come to tell him of these situation but he is full to capacity and unable to take any more animals. The government needs to do something as people can find this distressing and are hypersensitive these situation.

Not a bad place for a tropical capital, (not like San Jose, Costa Rica) but hot, hot, hot. Bad taxi problem, rediculous prices and decrepid cars. Museum ($7) open but all the Mayan artifacts in storage, perpetually apparently. Craft market near the harbour (outside the purpose built one for the cruise ships, now shut and depidated) worth a visit but only one or two stalls, none had sold anything in days we were told (highly believable with steep pricing necessary for elevated cost of living locally). Much poverty and relatively high crime rate, a cop on every corner very attentive to foreign visitors. 3 banks in main square close the ATMs regularly to avoid paying out.

Belize City is very commercial, industrial and rough around the edges at first glance but there are many things worth seeing in the area. Many of the residential neighborhoods are quaint and quiet. From Belize City, Altun Ha is just a short drive as well as The Baboon Sanctuary and the Belize Zoo. Smokeez Seaside Restaurant and Bar was our favorite spot, right on the water near the famous Belize Monument Sign”. If your up for really experiencing the culture of the country, you must spend a few days in Belize City.

Belize City itself is not much of an attraction.
Belize City itself is not much of an attraction. It is a good place to stay overnice before or after and international flight, prior to moving on to other places in the country. Taxis should be arranged by your hotel for airport pickups and departures. Waling around at night did not seem especially safe. We walked to dinner, before dark, and took taxis back to the hotel. Have your restaurant call the cab. No Uber

We LOVED Belize… We stayed in Placencia, Hopkins and Belmopan (and visited St. Ignacio). Belize City was our last night and we wished we stayed elsewhere. The people were very nice though… but the city itself was dirty
You should avoid going to Belize City if you can, it is a dump hole. But if you must go, this hotel will almost make you feel like you’re not there. The hotel itself is beautiful and the rooms are really unique. They were just finishing the pool
And surrounding areas, but they were nice enough.
Elizabeth at reception was REALLY lovely and helpful. We left my son’s plush toy and she found it and said she would send it.
If you're unfortunate to spend an evening in Belize City, there are only two hotels which were recommended to us and happen to be across the street from each other! The Radisson and the Great House. Although breakfasts at the Radisson can be good, the meal choices at lunch and dinner are poor. Best of luck in what was a former British colony with the old concept of British cuisine.
The hotel was perfect for a night. We were just steps away from the liveaboard dive ship we were going to be living on for the next week. The Radisson is the nicest hotel in Belize City. The food was OK (not great). The staff there was nice, attentive, and professional.
Rooms were Ok too...not great...but nice enough. The value for the money???? I would say, it was a fair deal.
The staff is very helpful, kind, and patient. The grounds are so lovely and peaceful - very relaxing. I loved access to the kayaks and sunset paddles through the mangroves along with spending time by the pool and on the beach. The hotel is so conveniently located between the airport and the city but in a very quiet and secure area.
The hotel was great, the staff were very friendly and very helpful. We had a traditional Belizean breakfast with beans eggs and fry jacks, it was great. The restaurant served good food outside of breakfast too. The highlight however was the staff, they were so friendly and helpful. The rooftop pool was also very nice.
James was very friendly and helpful in answering our questions about this area of Belize and Belize City. The property is very clean and the condo is well stocked with any thing we needed. We enjoyed our breakfasts on the large deck listening to the birds in the nearby trees.
it was a nice oasis just outside of Belize City and close to the airport. The owners were very friendly and had great restaurant suggestions to do on your stay. They had car we used to get to Belize Zoo for fee. we were there all by ourselves and had use of beautiful pool
Perfect for the last day to stay before traveling at home. Safe area in Belize city and the staff was very friendly. Cheap shuttle service to the airport. And soon the roof terrace will be expanded even more 😍
Perfect for a pit stop before the airport - comfortable rooms, a nice plunge pool area and located in a quiet, residential but safe area. Helpful staff willing to organise taxis and recommend restaurants.
The Villa was in a great location in Belize City. A few restaurants within walking distance. Could also walk along the water. The staff were very friendly. The Villa was roomy, clean and a great value.
we were only staying one night and the hotel had exactly what we wanted! hot water, clean towels and air con.
the staff were super friendly and helped us book our taxi to the airport.
recommend highly
The hotel was clean and comfortable with the restaurant upstairs and the staff were very friendly. Sedajah in the restaurant worked both times we were in there and gave us great service with a smile.
- HOT SHOWER!!! one of the few I’ve had while showering
- nice owner
- good food. reasonably priced for a hotel, but since I stayed in the dorm I would say a little expensive for backpackers
The room was very nice - clean and spacious. Great location for the last night before our flight out. Best hotel gym I have seen in a while, although some of the machins were a bit wonky.
I mean it was one cheapest one in the city but still I don't really know what to comment on. It was chill and silent bfor example and it was on the way of buses to airport
Bed is super comfortable. The hotel has unbeatable views to the Caribbean sunsets. There is a great pool and a nice and not expensive Cafe next to the pool.
