Stuff except manager Wifi
Location Shuttle schedules to town Uncomfortable beds Construction during daytime Manager not supportive Very small swimming pool
Being away from the hustle and bustle of town. Private area. Beautiful beach. Wonderful staff. Restaurant food was delicious. Perfect if you are looking for solitude.
Mosquitoes, but they did spray for them. Being away from town - food and entertainment options were limited. They did provide a water taxi service to town a few times a day. No cable.
Friendly Staff Good location for "getting away" Nice beach, I have been to places where the beach was less than stellar
Wifi was spotty at best - resort did say they were getting it fixed Times to get to town were very limited
Fabulous beach (much better than in San Pedro). Staff were so friendly, especially in the restaurant. We had a great time and would definitely stay there again!
Nothing! Everything was exceptional!
I loved the staff - they were friendly, helpful and tended to our every need. The food in the restaurant is amazing - everything we had was delicious. We had a 2-bedroom villa and it was so spacious. I loved the peace and quiet and the beauty of being oceanfront. It was helpful to have the cell phone and wifi they provide complimentary. I was grateful that the staff offered to sell us a big bottle of water for only $3.50 that lasted well beyond our stay. Tiki bar opened during our stay! Pools were clean with warm water.
The location is a little too far from the main land as well as from San Pedro (considering there is no road into town). It takes almost two hours to get there from Belize City and 30 mins from San Pedro. Unfortunately there was no path to even walk as it was covered with debris. The hotel does a wonderful job of cleaning up the seaweed and debris in front of their beach but the rest of the area on both sides made it difficult to walk anywhere. It would have been nice to have a path to ride a bike or run into town. I thought we would be able to snorkel right off the dock but it was too dirty. It was too risky taking the kayak out to the reef as someone drowned the day before and others at the resort testified as to how dangerous the currents were. I would have like to know in advance that there was no market anywhere close or not even a vending machine so to bring coffee, water and soda and whatever food I might want to prepare on my own. I was disappointed there was no SPA or fitness center, particularly a jacuzzi. The pools had very warm water though. I also was disappointed there was no cable not that I planned on watching TV but to have it as an option would have been nice.
The staff was amazing and wonderful! The food was delicious! The rooms were marvelous and the resort was super quiet!
It was a little bit of a hike to get there from the airport to the belize city water taxi to San Pedro and then being picked up by the hotel boat to get to the island. But honestly it was worth it and I would definitely go again! Thank you Josie, Jerilee, Raphael and all the other folks who made our trip wonderful!
Restaurant food choices could of been better but still good.
staff and food was great
too far away from center to over priced for facility construction still in process
The information said 1.3 km from San Pedro down town and it is 20 km far away. I fell foolished.
Staff, undeniably the best that you would want and the other guests were a pleasure as well.
Remote place, not necessarily in a good way, but a hassle to be part of San Pedro and the activities that occure there and from there. Bugs, which stopped our enjoyment of anything out doors near sunset and evening time. The amazing amount of garbage and seaweed they continually rake up off the beach sometimes twice a day, but they are not to blame. Expensive, more than what we would spend on Maui, which surprised us..... I coul go on...
Staff was friendly and helpful.
Hotel was very removed from town and there were not many water taxi "runs" per day. The timing was not convenient and even when we were told the time we would be picked up- they were not there because some other customers had insisted on being shuttled back earlier. I would chose a more convenient hotel next time.
- Very cozy - Quiet - Great staff - Very clean
- Only accessible from San Pedro by Water Taxi
Beautiful facilities and beach.
Could not access grocery store due to total isolation from town. The only access to anything was by boat that you had to schedule
Excellent facilities, friendly and helpful staff, availability of free kayaks and snorkeling gear despite being the peak-time. Clean and remote.
Remote location requires a bit of planning.
Great location, nice beach, good pools. The staff are friendly and try very hard to please
The food was very average and over priced, need a new chef that can cater for western tastes and can cook.Bitten alive by sand fly,my wife had a terrible time and was very uncomfortable with bites. They are lacking in number of kyaks with only 2 and need more snorkling gear.I understand the place is still fairly new but they need to improve in some areas especially with the food as you are fairly isolated from town.
Free kayaks were good fun. Landscaping was very nice.
Needs a friendlier communal space to hang out if you want to meet others. 10 miles is too far from town, when you can only get there by boat. We walked it one day...stopping at 2 restaurants along the way, but it took us three hours. Nice to be able to take the boat back ;-)
Our stay at Sapphire Beach was beyond perfection! From the moment we arrived in San Pedro, we were greeted by their friendly staff. As soon as we stepped off the boat onto the sandy beach at Sapphire, we were greeted by more friendly staff and welcome drinks. Our villa was absolute perfection with every detail thought of. There is no cable, but we were never in the room long enough to even think of watching TV. On one rainy night, we borrowed a DVD from the office. The resort provides each room with a Belizean cell phone and a personal hot spot. We took the wifi with us everywhere we went: the beach, the pool, San Pedro, even to the mainland for a full day of excursions, never losing the internet connection. The food at Sapphire is some of the best I have ever eaten. We ate our way through the menu, and the burritos were by far our favorite. Everything is cooked fresh, all juice is fresh squeezed, and the restaraunt staff will make any exceptions you ask for. The front office arranged our excursions, which were amazing. The beauty of Sapphire cannot be expressed by words. It is remote and quiet, and you are surrounded by nothing but nature. During the day, we spen our time at the beach, only taking a break to grab a fresh beer out of our fridge, or getting some food. By the afternoon, we'd take a dip in the pool, go out in the kayaks, go for a walk along the beach, or head into town (we only went in to town twice in 7 days). At night, we'd head over to the restaraunt for dinner, then spend hours sitting under the stars on the beach. We saw more stars than we could ever see at home, and everynight, there were multiple shooting stars! Sapphire was better than any vacation I could have ever dreamed of.
Bring bug spray with a high deet content. You are in the jungle, and will get bitten by bugs. You can purchase this in town, but I recommend being prepared from day one. You may also want to bring something to stop the itching from the bug bites.
Beautiful setting, very relaxing. Quite , secluded beach
Very remote, bring groceries with you
Place will be nice when it's finished. Sadly still building when we were there. Some noise every day. They were not really ready to open.
Distance from town
The staff was incredible - very friendly and personable with great attention to detail. The facilities were top notch, new, clean and right on the beach. Very remote location - peaceful, quiet and relaxing.
The staff were great!
Resort is not finished construction enough to be open to guests. Also way too remote for us to enjoy.
Okay, I have never written a review before. I guess I have never been motivated to but, Sapphire Beach Resort has motivated me. We just got back from 5 days at the resort. The resort and its staff are excellent. If you ever want to get away from it all and be treated like you deserve, this it the place to go. The staff is friendly and treats you like family. Ask for something and they will deliver beyond your ask. My wife's only request on this trip was to find a place to eat where we could have a romantic dinner on the beach. All I had to do is ask the restaurant staff and they made it happen. That is only one example but there are many. One note, the resort is 10 miles north of the town of San Pedro. The only access is by the resort's shuttle boat or by a public ferry service. So, if you want to get away, this is the place, but if you want the hustle and bustle of a big resort, this is not for you. Things to do: take the shuttle to San Pedro and eat or shop (many local artist and street vendors selling their wears at good prices), lay by the beach and read a book, lay by the pool, kayak inside the reef or get a mask and snorkel and kayak out to the reef for some great snorkeling. You can also arrange all sorts of water and land adventures from hiking to diving. Communications in Belize can be tough for international travelers but Sapphire Beach Resort takes care of that in style. Upon check-in, we were handed a cell phone to use. This allows you to go anywhere on the island and still be reachable. They also gave us a mifi device to use for interet. This was great and meant we were our own traveling hot spot. We could disable our cellphone except for wifi and stay as connected (or disconnected) as we wanted. One new note "the pool bar is open." This is a great place to end the evening with new friends or just quench your thirst during the day
I loved the drink getting off the boat. The staff went out of their way to be incredibly helpful and were easy to talk to. The rooms were gorgeous and very clean. You can also tell the potential upgrades in process will continue to expand the services and beauty of the resort area.
Food was okay, surrounding beach area (just off of resort location) was dirty and had lots of garbage on it, would have liked to know ahead of time about the bug situation to pack and use OFF from day one rather than after I was already bit!
A lot of mosquitoes. The beach is beautiful, but the see is not so clean.
