Hotel Abri du Voyageur  

I loved the staff - especially Carol, Zachery, & Mo. They were patient and always ready to help us understand the city and what it had to offer us during our stay. We had the studio room and it was perfect and quiet for our 7 day visit.

The employees were incredibly friendly, the room was fantastic, and the location was right on the intersection of St. Catherine and St. Laurent. The room was clean and the beds were comfortable. Overall, for just $55, I was incredibly pleased with my night in this hotel. Also, there was a sink in the room! Huge bonus.

The streets can be loud, but that was expected. Bring earplugs.

Nice location, just 15min-walk to the old port, very close to chinatown. Near metro station.

Too noisy at night, the location is near bar area, ppl at the streets can keep talking all night long.. sometimes feel hard to fall asleep.

The room is cheap.

The location is on a '???' place in Montreal downtown area. Sex shops are around the hotel with homeless people surrounding at night. Don't drive your car there because it is almost impossible to find a safe parking spot there. The room and its renovation is pretty old. It only remind you that it may be a spot where a lot of local people want a temp room for something.

I like the fact that It was really clean and cozy.

Location: very noisy inside and outside of the hotel. The environment is not very good. It seems that lowlife people are the main clientele of the hotel. Advertisement in the internet was not fair: it does not show all steps you have to take to reach the reception of the hotel­. In sum, not very impressed!! I do not recommend this hotel for someone who is mature or has a family profile. Thank you.

Really Budget Friendly Nice staff

Hotel was very affordable and conveniently located. We didn't mind sharing a bathroom as they were very clean and overall the hotel was kept very clean. The staff at the front desk were very nice and helpful. This was my second visit here and I would stay again.

Our room was a little hot, even with the window open. We stayed on the top floor and the WiFi reception was spotty, but we managed with it.

The hotel was great, but unfortunately you have to sort out your bed bug problem in room 210. Au revoir!

The fact that I got bed bugs. Leaving the hotel covered in bites and having to sterilize all my things has not been a thrill.

Location and price

First off, I asked for a cot and the man at the front desk told me they had none. I accidently opened the closet (it was right next to the bathroom) and what did I find? A cot... Poor, poor service. Everything was fine though I suppose.

I had a horribly noisy room. Not only was it facing a busy street, one of the main thoroughfares through Montreal, but it was at the intersection with another main street. And one night there were snow removal tractors scraping the sidewalk, the the road surface, then hoovering it into dump trucks, from 1 a.m. to past 2 a.m. Necessary work, to be sure, but the un-soundproofed room meant I got no sleep. I will not stay here on my return trip because of the noise factor.

Very well priced and the room, bathroom were very clean.

The location. While it was convenient and close to most things, it didnt feel safe. One night we were followed into the hotel (it has 24h concierge but no lock on the front door) by a stranger who was trying to beg us for food. Also, surrounded by sex shops and strip joints. Would stay here again but would be wary about going out alone at nights

Pretty cheap and for that a great location Downtown with a comfortable bed, and kind service people.

We were moved into a superior room when the room we were initially put into (studio apartment) did not have a working heater. The superior room was very nicely furnished, warm and the staff were very helpful and friendly.

The studio apartment was old, ugly, cold (heater broken) and broken blinds. The shower in the superior room was too small with an immovable shower head that was uncomfortable.

Excellent value, great location, friendly staff, clean, I stayed in a room which did not have a private bath but it was no problem. There was a pedestal sink in the room and 2 bathrooms with showers conveniently located just outside the room. They were usually empty and always kept neat and clean. The neighborhood has a reputation as a red light district but this has changed dramatically I think. The art center is right nearby, with the symphony and numerous theaters, museums are close by, chinatown is just down the street, the old city and the port are a short walk, the metro is very convenient. Staying at Abri du Voyageur really enhanced our trip which was quite low budget.

The value was 'incredible'. We were trepidatious about going with a shared bathroom as we had not done so since being younger and travelling in Europe. Our concerns were unnecessary. The bathrooms are very large, clean and close to the rooms. The staff were incredibly personable, helpful and treated us like family. The location is amazing. Right in the middle of the Arts district, on Metro lines and literally could not have been easier to walk 2 minutes to China Town or 5 minutes to Old Montreal.

With Downtown anywhere you will get a seedy element. 1 vagrant 1 day in the doorway who did not bother us as we entered...a very small price to pay indeed. The very hard bed will be difficult for some to sleep on.
