Location is good
No wifi in the room
staff, customer service
the place over all the place is so old, looks like a old house has been put on commercial purpose, The room sucked...way to small and dingy and over priced !!!
Reviews were generally positive about the hostel and initially I booked 2 nights to stay in an 8 room female dorm. In the beginning the manager was polite and friendly and informed me that the dorm was females ONLY, no males allowed in. I agreed and did not think much of it. The dorm was fine except that it had no lockers or cabinets for my belongings ( lockers were only available on the ground floor and locks were $2 each). There were some high cabinets and being rather short I had to get help to place my belongings. I asked my boyfriend, who was there to help me move my belongings, to help me get a chair as my stuff was pretty heavy. The dorm was then empty and I didn't want to trouble the staff for a trivial matter. So the manager came back and found my boyfriend in the dorm and proceeded to throw a hissy fit. The manager started yelling that rules were clear, no males in the room, and proceeded to chase my boyfriend out of the dorm and back to the lobby like a common thief. I was even more outraged as I was leaving when the manager shouted at me as I was leaving the hostel that if I ever flout the laws of his hostel he would kick me out and gave me a warning notice. I know that rules are rules but IF he had been polite and professional I would have been terribly sorry and left the matter at that. I felt that the service was terrible and requested to cancel my 2nd night there. The final straw came when I was given a letter stating that I was not allowed to post bad reviews of the hostel if I was given a refund. Apparently this must have been a common occurrence if they had a document like this printed out. The worst part? It was only in french.... so foreign guests who signed probably had no clue what they were agreeing to. Worst experience I had ever had in a hostel. Was really shocked as the other reviews had stated the staff was friendly and helpful.
The mixture of guests all ages all nationalaties
The stairs were a problem for me
The staffs are really nice and helpful.
The wifi does not work inside the room.
Supplied a fan due to no A/C
No WiFi!! Unclean washrooms and kitchen area The wash room did not have a working lock, instead only had a latch Co-Ed shared rooms
In thought I booked one room but it turned out to be a bedroom within a little apartment, with a kitchen, sitting area and dining spot. Excellent arrangement. The hostel was well run, in an interesting old building. The rooms were clean, bedding was new, water was hot. The staff were very helpful with information about events and transportation. I would definitely stay here again
The breakfast was not as full as I have had in other hostels. You wouldn't want to rely on it for your morning food.
Love this hostel!!its very familiar and has a very friendly staff (Thank you Kader ;-) )! Big rooms and a lovely terrace! Washing machines you can use for free
There is no Wifi in the doorms
The staff was very friendly and the rooms were well kept. It's a great place to meet like-minded individuals and one isn't too far from the city center, so it's a really nice location.
Montreal summers are very hot and humid, so the lack of air-conditioning made sleep somewhat uncomfortable. A fan in the room would have been a nice addition.
Very good location, 5 minute walk to Berri-UQAM metro station. Good price compared to other hostels and hotels in the city. I've stayed here for the races several years in a row and I've never had a complaint with the rooms or staff. Thank you.
I loved all of my experience at Alexandrie Hostel. I am a retired woman who lived a rich life on "the Main" in the 70's. I came here for the death of a friend, and for her funeral. I felt so well taken care of at the hostel during this time. It was amazing to return to my favourite city and to stay in this friendly, secure, laid back, and ethnically diverse hostel. Loved the spacious ground floor, where (mostly) youth hung out, with great music in the back ground and people either doing their own thing, or conversing. I needed my own space and my room with a shared living room, washroom and kitchen (with washing machine and dryer) was exactly what I needed. Again, the staff were spectacular, present and supportive. Thanks all for an amazing visit.
Not a negative actually. I loved it all, but anyone who wants a modern, smooth looking place, beautifully put together.. should just go somewhere else.(I don't want to meet you here, either.) The bedroom was well, some might think strange, with a navy ceiling and wierd lamps. Everything everywhere at Alexandrie was somehow "imperfect". So if you are super fussy about perfection forget it. If like me, you thrive on the odd thing, the surprise, the real thing, the real wealth of things as they are, just check out this hostel!! But don't say I didn't warn you!! PS The staff are super cool and all weird and wonderful gentlemen and dudes.
staff (very helpful and nice), breakfeast, freedom, price, location ,quit, simple, practical. meeting nice people there
The atmosphere was good. But that is it
DO NOT STAY IN THIS HOSTEL. Poor wifi, poor cleaness. This hostel is worst I've ever stayed. Friendly service from the staff was not enough to make up the poor cleaness. I stayed here for 3 days and that was the worst part of my whole trip. Everything was bery old in this place. And if you are searching for female-dormitory, you should know that there are mice. In order to sleep, I had to try not to hear the noise mice made in the room every might. Actually I am pretty sure it is not only in female dormitory, but in whole hostel. And, the wifi signal is not strong enough. I couldn't even use internet in my room at all. I had to bring my key and go down to use it. If you want to have a pleasure time, please, please, please book somewhere else. There are a lot of good places in Montreal.
I liked everything, the staff was very kind and also helpful. The bathroom was always clean and the breakfast was good!
Had a great time.
Alexandrie Hostel is the best hostel in Montreal. Wonderful staff. Kader is so sweet, he take care everybody with a big heart. Excellent location.Value of money. Everything is easy and comfortable, good rooms, bathroom, kitchen, everywhere is clean, more than a hostel feels more like home, good security.Excellent atmosphere, nice contact with other backpackers.
The staff!! Thank you so much for all!! Specially to "H" for his indications!
WiFi not avaiable in the rooms
i enjoyed its simplicity
the appearence of the building from outside. not a huge deal but i think it would be a good idea to have guests or local artist paint it-someone/thing. it would be more; inviting, appear more lively and locals would be more familiar with it. all in all, better for business!!
Staff are super kind and friendly. They told me where the popular places were with the map.Besides they showed me my dormitory. The location is good because 10mins walk from the long distance bus terminus. It was very convenience for me.
I could use wifi only the lounge. It was a shame.
The stuff were so nice and kind. They explained where I should go to sightsee and eat. The facilities are not new, but are always kept clean.
Apartment was good size and we'll appointed if a little dated. Location close to St Catherine is great. Staff friendly and helpful when you find them. Certainly felt like the place for a younger traveller
Bed was very small for 2 people. Breakfast very basic - toast and drinks.
Great location, funky design and great that you could have a private room with access to a kitchen and a nice balcony. Staff were helpful
My room was right next to construction (I guess that can't be controlled), and the bed was pretty hard. Wi-Fi signal was spotty in my room, but fine downstairs.
