Score from 281 reviews Very good
Restaurants were very good - good food and great service.
The rooms are very dated- seem to be unclean - lots of dust from construction. Really need some room upgrades in the worst way - not happy at all.
Hotel Arts is an exceptional hotel by anyone's standards. The rooms are large, clean and stylish. They're has been many beautiful updates enhancing both esthetics and function to the rooms and hotel as whole. Staff are helpful, knowledgable and friendly and the hotel is perfectly situated away from noise but close to all amenities.
In this day in age I believe all hotels should be offering complimentary wifi for rooms. It's irritating being cut off half way through a business related skype conference because the 24hour wifi runs out.
Hotel style is very fashionable. They give AVEDA bath amenities.
No free wifi in room, but serve in lobby. The light is not enough in room, can't see clearly.
The whole experience
Cannot beat the location. Just outside the core of downtown Calgary, but still within walking distance. Modern interior, friendly staff.
A renovation is in progress - should look after the minor "finishing" issues [toilet has not worked properly on two occasions, some of the wallpaper/carpet was getting a bit worn] - but this is being addressed. Construction was not an issue during my stay [Friday overnight]
Will be nice once re is are done
Hotel was suppose deliver bottle of bubbly to room upon arrival and it got overlooked. Once we notified them about it we waited another hour before calling to see if it was on the way and they didn’t realize it hadn’t been delivered yet. It finally arrived but we were short a champagne flute and the staff person said she would be back with another one however she never returned with it. Very disappointing part of our evening spent at Hotel Arts.
Loved the renovated room I was in. Spacious, pleasing to the eye and the bed was so comfortable.
There was no comfy chair in the room for lounging, just an office chair and a business desk. Also, the bathroom tub was small, too small for the wide rain shower head and there was no soap holder so the soap had to rest on the side of the tub. If these small additions had been present, the room would have been absolutely perfect. As it was, it was still quite excellent.
We didnt have hot water in our room
That I thought I found a good deal on the internet for room cost. I liked the bed and sheets, very comfortable :)
Once I checked in, found out I had to pay for internet and parking. I guess that was neglect on my part not checking into that prior to booking. A mistake I won't make again. I didn't like the fact I felt like I was in a shoebox for the weekend. The shower constantly dripped for an hour after I stopped showering. The toilet handle doesn't retract back to stop the flushing action. I had to manually pull it back up. The cleaning staff should have noticed this when cleaning and reported it at such time. If it was reported, seems as tho nothing was done prior to another guest staying there. Also my green tea wasn't replaced. Gun shooting nearby one night. Guests partying ouside my hotel room on the street. Both incidences at 2:50 AM. One Fri & one Sat night. Too noisy, I know beyond hotel control, but the bellman could've mentioned that there were guests sleeping in rooms above them, but nothing was done. Oh yes.. I didn't like the fact that I had to go down stairs to bring my things to the room and leave the rest at the top of the stairs.. anyone could've taken things off the cart .. very unsecure. My next visit to Calgary will be at the hotel I usually visit. The only reason I stayed there this time was my husband suggested I try it for a change since he stayed there a few years ago. I'm not impressed and will not be back.
bar, good staff, nicely designed
lighting in bathroom was poor
I like the location and the fact that it's not a huge hotel, more intimate and relaxed.
I didn't like that there are no longer any lounge chairs by the pool to sit and tan, only tables and chairs to eat or but drinks.
No kettle, we had to boil the water for our tea in a coffee maker then drink the tea from paper cups and stir it with a wooden stick, not what you expect from any hotel. For what we paid we should at least have got proper cups and spoons.
Bed was comfortable View was nice
Construction started at 8:30am and sounded like it was in our room....very loud!!!
Not enough plug-ins for 3 of us, dingy room, dusty curtains and unpredictable staff. Didn't like having to pay extra for Internet - time to get into the 21st century. One okay front of house, two rude ones. When you're renoing your hotel (painters everywhere) & in competition with others downtown, polite, friendly staff is a must. Would not stay here again.
Pool and patio, relaxed atmosphere, heated pool, lots of flora and fauna, artsy. Nice after a busy day at work.
Wished it had a full length mirror, and a remote with a sleep timer (like home), but typical of most hotels.. also, wished it had more counter top space in the bathroom to put things down.
Decent value for money
Air-con was loud and kept shutting off and kicking in again. It was too hot to turn off the air con and the noise kept waking me up
Excellent bedding Good, but pretty standard rooms Friendly staff Loved the art and the funky feeling of the hotel
- on a hygienic point of view, we did not like, the open ended sheets around duvets - lack of good bedside reading lights - the Pool-policy: were dissappointed with the pool which was more a social gathering place for the local funky crowd then a relaxing pool for hotel guests. No poolbeds available at all, only tables and chairs. So the pool is mainly a bar/ funky restaurant rather than a relaxing, entertaining space for hotel guests. Which is fine, as long as you do not chose the hotel specifically for its pool - Not a kid friendly place, which is not a criticism, just an observation.
Location, modern feel. Fairly clean, although bathroom was already a bit worn and had plenty of limescale.
Internet an parking not included which I find annoying because it is more or less given to use the internet these days - might as well charge for having a TV in the room. Also we were next to the roof so the window was glazed making the room rather dark and we heard the buildings cooling system all night. But that was just unlucky, I presume most rooms don't have that problem.
Very nice comfy room. Downtown location not far away from all the shopping.
No fridge or microwave in the room.
Couldn't beat the location! I was very impressed with the efficiency and cleanliness of the housekeeping department. The doormen were very friendly and always greeted me with a kind smile.
There is construction going on, would have been nice to know about before I reserved. I was asked to leave the pool because there was a private booking - I understand this however, again would have been nice to know hotel guests could be displaced due to private functions.
My booking wasn't there and it took a long time to get a unsatisfactory room.
restaurant food is excellent!
a little old in the hallway
