I was surprised to see plumbing down the side of the wall in the bedroom and even more prominently so in the bathroom. Not anyone's preferred decor and not the sort of thing that whispers 4-star quality. Plugs to charge a phone or tablet located in difficult places to reach.
At breakfast, among the other guests the hostess was polite, in what was a contrast to the previous day when we arrived.
The reception at the door the day before was cold, if not close to indifferent, and perhaps even unfriendly. The customary "hello," or "welcome" was replaced with an inquiring "yes?!" at the door. Inn-keeping can be demanding and make you busy, no doubt. But the absence of greeting was remarkable. It made us feel as though we had interrupted her doing something truly important.
We were asked to fill out a form, standing in the foyer. No counter to write on, no chair or table, and no clipboard even. One had to lean low onto a side furniture piece against the hall wall to scribble on the paper, lower back strained. I don't have a back problem and I am not particularly tall but if someone did have back issues, it might have been painful or inconvenient. The polite thing would be to offer a seat, however.
We got keys and were shown to the room. All rather clinical and cool. No information about parking, where to go for breakfast, or where to find our hostess if we had any questions. Not a hint of engagement at a human level. None! And thus she disappeared pretty quickly. There was no question about whether we had any questions.
I've seen people welcome Jehova Witnesses and Amway sales people at the door more warmly than what we experienced At the Turret. The stark difference here is underscored by the facts: we were expected, we were going to pay $130 plus tax, and the property owner is in the "hospitality" business. Something didn't go right at all.
Beautiful exterior. Convenient location --though none of the B&Bs in town are poorly located in such a small community.
The bedroom we were assigned to was somewhat crammed but it was on the first floor and had a separate entrance, which seemed convenient. Room had air conditioning. Breakfast was good. The place is clean.
