Athabasca Lodge Motel  

Went for a walk in the morning - saw deer in 3 different places. The town of Athabasca has signs with the history of the area scattered throughout the town and along the river. There is also a guided walk available at the library. The Motel is at the top of the hill above the town. It's a workout if you walk downtown and back.

You have to be be on the lookout for deer on the highway for about 45 minutes south of town.

They didn't have any facilities for young children ie crib or playpen for sleeping and we weren't notified ahead of time.

Nice having breakfast included and the beds and rooms are very comfortable.

The rooms have been smoked in, and the spray only disguises it. We had to be relocated because our room smelled of smoke, and the new one was better however still did smell of smoke. I suggest that you remove ashtrays from just outside the rooms, as people probably smoke right outside the room with a window open. The choice of cereals should include something without sugar coating.

Owner manager was not only courteous but also very accommodating .

As clean and as comfortable as it was I felt $108 is just a bit too much to pay for a 2 maybe 21/2 star hotel...I Think I should have paid 60 maybe....

There were guests that were up all night causing noise preventing sleep. when we complained we got no assistance from the staff. There was no compensation or credit for the poor sleeping condiitons.

It was clean enough. There was no bed bugs! Good location.

The bar of soap wasn't usable because it was quite broken, the continental breakfast shouldn't even be mentioned as an advantage because it had seen better days, wrinkled apples, stale short pieces of bacon, about one inch long,etc. The rules over the sink and on the door were such bad english we had to read them over and over to get what they really meant. The person who served us when we checked in and a different one when we checked out, could not understand us and we could barely understand them. We had to just agree with whatever was said and give up and walk away! Ama sign on window, but no discount given and no idea what a senior discount was.

My husband and I are scuba divers and were training over the weekend at Narrow Lake. We have stayed here before when diving there and it is a good location for us. It is clean and quiet and a local restaurant delivers! We were very pleased. Thanks.

We never could find the switch for the jacuzzi and were too tired to call someone over to show us! Please put a sign up for the next guests.

The rooms were dated but clean and well kept

The staff was rude, they downgraded our room and still tried to charge us the higher price. They argued with us about our booking and were very hesitant to give us the room we paid for. We were unhappy with the upgraded room we paid for because it smelled horribly of smoke but the staff called me a liar and said it did not smell of smoke because it was a smoke free room. We tried to reason with the staff but they were unresponsive to our expectation (which were not high!!). There was an extreme language barrier and it was impossible to communicate with the staff. The breakfast was terrible and we ended up getting our own breakfast elsewhere. I did not have high expectations for this place as I knew it was only a 2 star and I ignored every bad review I read about this place becuase I figured they were travellers that wanted 5 star service at a 2 star hotel but quickly learned every bad review was spot on and I wished I would have taken the advise of other travellers!! I will never stay here again, not even for free!!!
