I was at the auberge on a business trip and needed my receipt to claim my expenses. Still haven't received it. I chose the hotel because it looked charming and it's situated in a great location. Unbeknownst to me, there was no concierge. You have to press a code to enter the hotel. After finally figuring out how to get in, I got a wiff of the carpeting in the hallway. Worse when I opened the door to my room , it had a disturbibg musty smell. The carpet in the room was filthy, the vents and walls were soiled and the bathroom sink was cracked. I have the feeling there may be some better rooms but the room I was in was horrendous. Moreover, the floor felt sticky and was also dirty. Fortunately, the bed was comfortable and the sheets were very clean and I managed to sleep for a couple of hours. In the middle of the night a group of people started partying. They ran up and down the rickety stairs, yelled, sang and made merry for at least three hours. This would all be fine, if I was at a bar, but in my case I was in Montreal to work and a good nights sleep would have been important. There is no person responsible on the premise to deal with these types of situations. After describing my experience the owner did not have the decency of reducing or cancelling the payment for the room. Not that I asked her, but I did expect her to offer. However I did ask for my receipt once again. She promised to send it that day. She also blamed me for not thinking of calling her about the noise the night before at two am. I was exhausted and didn't think of it, plus the previous day when I called her to know how I would receive my receipt, she told me that she lived too far away to come to the hotel to bring it to me.Four days later I stlll haven't seen the receipt. She said she would send it by email the day of my check out. I would not recommend this auberge if cleanliness, and calm is important to you- not to mention honesty.
I liked the location and that the place had tremendous potential.
