Bed comfortable. Everything clean. Breakfast sustaining. Staff very pleasant and helpful. Stairs are challenging but great for getting fit. Bus route very close, direct to city, and reliable. Lots of fascinating guests if you want to chat.

No fly screens so on hot nights a bit warm on 3rd floor. Fan not quite enough. No facilities for laundry, but laundrette few blocks down with coffee shop nearby.

Wonderful staff who made up my room quickly so they could allow me to check in several hours early. Room was clean and tidy with plenty of space. Gorgeous garden to sit in whilst resting and close to public transport to get in and out of town.

    The olden day charm

The house itself could do with a little bit of TLC

    - location (great neighborhood close to a park) - free parking and wifi - large rooms - good beds

    - smell in the basement rooms (old house) - breakfast was not worth the name (on the second day I went over to Starbucks and got breakfast) - no housekeeping during our 2 day stay - no drinking water available

Economically priced and clean. Breakfast was fresh made but lousy coffee. Staff was attentive, owner absent.

Furniture blocking exits, difficult door locks, no linens /paper towels in common baths, hall lights not accessible to guests. Building in an overall state of disrepair.

Nice people (staff and guests). Hot breakfast typically included eggs and toast plus fresh fruit, and was generously portioned. On street parking was easy, and location is in a pleasant neighborhood setting, with many nearby conveniences such as kosher restaurant and a Starbucks at the end of the street. Location is also about one mile from the Van Dusen Botanical Gardens, one of my favorite gardens on the west coast. Our particular room was light and airy, yet sheltered from street view by a canopy of trees.

We shared a bathroom which I admit I was a little worried about. Fortunately, the toilet was in a separate room from the shower and sink. Even though the house was full when we stayed there, the shared toilet really wasn't a problem at all.

gorgeous location in a lush, tree-lines neighborhood within walking distance to Granville island.

Location was great right next bus stop and walking distance to restaurants shopping and coffe shops. The staff at The Balfour were really nice and helpful. It had an amazing yard with nice patio furniture.

Room was kind of damp it had like an earthy smell, the windows could not be opened so there was no ventilation and the linens were to small for the beds so it was a little uncomfortable sleeping in them.

I love Victorian houses so staying here was an absolute treat! It's over a hundred years old with many of the interior still in it's original state! It felt very nostalgic as if I were staying at my grandparents house so I felt more than comfortable there! Extremely "homey".

My sister on the other hand claimed it was "creepy" and reminded her of a haunted house. She just doesn't share my love for vintage architecture I guess. Although I will agree with her when she said the breakfast was just "okay". We were really crossing our fingers for pancakes or waffles, but both mornings just got eggs and toast.

Friendly staff, location to where we needed to go, breakfasts were excellent, the house was venerable (1900),the grounds beautiful, some amenities close by

The room had dressers and two tiny door hooks but no closets for hangers which our clothes were on; the bed was hard & a bit lumpy, no coffee-maker (or TV which is par for B&B); the ad said on-site parking but we were asked to park on the street.

The room I was in was very clean.

The place is very old and smells musty. It would be likely to have mold in it. Staff was friendly but distant as the English skills were limited.

breakfast was adequate, shower water pressure and temperature were good. When we told them after one night's stay that we were very disappointed and felt we'd been deceived, they promised not to charge us. I am skeptical that deceivers will keep their word, however.

visible termite damage was the first sign of a problem, then upon entering we noticed that a moldy smell permeated throughout, we were required to sign a promise to pay for 3 nights before seeing the accommodations, loose bannister and stairs were difficult to manage (uneven, bumpy carpet), dirty carpet in bedrooms & bathroom was not clean when we arrived, linoleum into mini-kitchen was damaged and therefore a tripping hazard, uncomfortable beds and pillows, t.v. downstairs had very few choices, the weak Wi-fi was the least of our issues indeed

The inn was very close to local transportation, although it was 20 minutes from downtown. The neighborhood around the inn was full of beautiful homes and a nice walking neighborhood. Due to an incident on the train ride to Vancouver, we didn't arrive at the inn until 2:00 am. The staff was very understanding in spite of our having to wake them.

The inn could use a lot of work to bring it up to its former condition. Compared to the other homes in the neighborhood, the inn was one in the poorest condition. Food was acceptable but not exceptional.

The room was cute, had a small kitchen, and the building was very old and interesting. The location was nice and safe. We parked our car in the driveway of the hotel off street for free. The hotel is near some pretty parks and is only about a 25 minute bicycle ride into the main part of the city. There is also a safeway store a couple blocks from the hotel.

The breakfast wasn't my cup of tea. We ate at the hotel only one morning out of the three because it wasn't very good the first day. They also didn't ask us anything about our diets or explain anything. They just started bringing random food out.
