Bow Valley Motel    

We liked being very close to Canmore's downtown area in a place that did not break the budget. The rooms were very well appointed with a very good TV and excellent coffee maker.

We felt that there was a lot of noise coming from the unit above, not being rowdy, but just moving around (that is, the floor between the units did not have much insulation)

The noise. Could hear everyone walking along the upstairs walkway very clearly from in the room. Dire sound proofing needs. Was there Friday and Saturday night and both nights drunk revelers were arrested outside the hotel in the middle of the night (there seems to be a path behind hotel that the kids use to get home after drinking all night) for drunk and disorderly and we could hear it all very very clearly in our bed.

At Main street. Walking distance to the shops and restaurants.

The Bow Valley Motel is not the fanciest place I've ever stayed, but it is located right in the heart of Canmore and the rates cannot be beat. This is a great place to stay for checking out Canmore!

The room (with kitchenette) had some cooking odors when we arrived. Nothing too bad though.

I love the location of the motel. Walk and shop.

Should give warning that families live in motel and 10:00 p.m means that a zero noise policy is in effect.

Location was fantastic and the place was spotless. Perfect place to lay your head after a long day of adventures in the mountains.

This past weekend I stayed at The Bow Valley Motel in Canmore and it was overall a horribly dehumanizing and crappy experience. I had reserved a room online through their website using a pre-paid credit card. When I showed up in the early evening to check in, I was asked if I wanted to pay for the room with my credit card or pay in cash. I said I would pay with the card and was then asked if in addition to the room charge they could pre-authorize my card for another $200 for a damage deposit. I've stayed in many hotels and motels in my life and over past couple months have been staying in higher end hotels in the area almost every weekend and have never before been asked to provide a damage deposit. I protested that this hadn't been mentioned when I reserved the room and further explained that with pre-paid credit cards when they do a pre-authorization the funds are withheld in limbo for 30 days and I didn't want her to do that with my card. I was told then that I would have to put up a $200 cash deposit. I protested having never had to do so previously and expressed the insulting nature of the woman's demand as a sleazy business practice. Nothing had been mentioned at the time of booking and I don't really come across as someone who would damage anything, most likely because I don't. In spite of my protest the woman would not relent so I decided I would go and get a room elsewhere where I would be treated more respectfully. As I was walking out the door the woman said they would be charging me for the room whether I stayed or not. They had my credit card number. I relented and paid for the room in cash and provided a $200 cash deposit. I felt trapped and without option. The room was adequate and I did get my cash back in the morning however even though I had paid in cash the woman went ahead and pre-authorized my card for the price of the room knowing that it would put the amount out of my hands for 30 days.

Thin walls and ceilings. We could hear the upstairs people walking around and the headboard was right by the pipes so everytime someone from upstairs used the washroom, we could hear it...loudly.

I had a sleepless stay here due to the thin walls letting in noise from the street and from rooms overhead. I even wore earplugs!!! The location of my room was on the main level, next to the street and beside the stairs. Even after requesting a room on the top floor 2 months in advance, they put me in a room on the bottom floor. After being in the room for 5 mins and hearing how easily I could hear the people above me, I inquired about switching to a top floor room. But they said they were fully booked and couldn't move me. If they were unable to meet my request, a simple email letting me know would have sufficed, to give me the opportunity to find another place to stay. Maybe if the room had a fan, I could have drowned out the noise.

Despite the negative reviews of this motel, I found my stay to be pleasant in a clean and comfortable room close to all stores and restaurants.

Location was fabulous with stunning views of the Rocky Mountains.

Toilet in both rooms had a moment of constant running.

We have stayed here several time and always know what we are getting. Clean and friendly place to stay.

Fabulous location while we visited our son who lives in a bachelor condo in Canmore. Perfect for walking everywhere in town. Staff was very friendly.

Nothing or maybe 2 coffee bags for the morning rather than one. We love our coffee!!!
