Location, big bed, great value
It is really hot, a fan in each room would be nice.
Location, price, beds, security, clean working washrooms
Lack of air conditioning, noise from pub could be issue if light sleeper
place, baggage room,
wifi is bit slow, we have to checkout check in timings can be same
The wifi was great and the location was really accessible. Beds are quite comfortable for what you pay. Although there are a few negatives, I would stay there again as I felt safe and once you get over the initial shock (definitely not what I expected) it's a really nice place.
I didn't like the pub downstairs as it's extremely loud at night. There was no fan and I stayed in summer so it was very hot. The female bathroom has only 2 toilets and 2 showers for the whole floor which led to massive lineups... they definitely need to expand. The staff were friendly but there wasn't really people at the desk during normal business hours.
Really cheap Excellent location Nice staff
Poor facilities Room is small and smelly, and hot at night Very bad wifi connection
close to downtown & waterfront
run-down place with squeaking floors, worn out furniture and pathetic public facilities. Only two showers on each floor and one of ours is broken. And the shower is so small that you can hardly bend down if you drop something, which is pretty likely as the space for shampoo/conditioner/soap, if any, is very tiny and slippery. The kitchen is small and dirty with roaches. Was bitten by an unknown bug on the last night of my stay.
I much prefer the location in Gastown to the two hostels near the train station. Staff was very friendly / helpful.
Not much ventilation in the inside rooms. The top bunk was very hot. Too full to switch to a bottom bunk for the second night.
I love the amenities, the bar, the food, the 24 hour check in is amazing and essential for an active traveller's lifestyle. I love the late night atmosphere, food till ten, beer till later, and the outdoor patio, essential on a hot summer night. the staff were pretty awesome too.
the shower was leaking so the floor in the bathroom was puddly wet and scary to use. this was not so bad though, as there was a washroom across the hall the noise level was pretty loud when it came to sleeping, but as a hosteller, I was glad for the shelter and a safe comfy bed
Good value for money. WiFi connection was good and the locker in room was too. Included bfast was good.
The room was very very warm all the time when we went in July. There were some nails sticking up from the floor
Atmosphere as friendly and inclusive. Staff were excellent and always found solutions to a problem. The $5.00 menu was excellent! Hard to find a better deal in Vancouver
No air conditioning, couldn't sleep. The wooden floor in some areas of my level felt like I was going to fall through it.
Near central downtown location but not concrete jungle stuff. Flexible with choice of eating venues on location or self prepared in hostel kitchen.
Men's shower facilities have always left a lot to be desired but hey, it was like that two years ago - and I still think it is convenient and good value for the price.
Location was great. Staff were helpful. The breakfast deal with the cafe next door was appreciated.
Rooms could use some TLC. The glass pane in our window doesn't even meet the top of the frame. The stains on the floor were gross. Adding baseboards would do a lot for the esthetics.
- location is great, close to downtown, gastown is really nice too - breakfast (good coffee & fresh muffin) was really good!
- the kitchen is really small, so we didnt use it...
Value and the bar downstairs food was excellent at breakfast mix of clientele was good
Optional towels, personal belongings security for your passport
. Bed was great ! . The bakery muffin and coffee excellent. . The 5 (five) dollar menu - great
. 2d floor room and the staircase to climb. .
Disgusting place. Had my bag stored and when I got it back there was mysterious sticky stuff covering it. Upon first entering my room there were big green stains on my pillow case. The common room/ kitchen area smells like rot. There are pigeons flying in the window. The building itself is falling apart. This place was so unpleasant I stayed only one night even though I payed for two. Worst hostel by far that I've ever stayed in. Only upside at all is the location.
the worst hostel in my life. there is no light, plug, neither window in the room. the room is also nasty and noisy because the 1st floor below this hostel is a night club and the wall is super thin. Thats why i couldn't sleep well.
The price of $68 for a double room was dirt cheap-- if one is willing to perceive the lodgings as historic rather than old.
Staff woke us _twice_ after we had retired for the evening telling us that we were supposed to have checked out earlier in the day-- even though we had only checked _in_ at around 9:00 p.m. because they had made some error with our confirmation-- and were unapologetic. The manager, Ken Prevost, never responded to e-mails complaining about this unsatisfactory conduct of the staff.
Very big bed was surprised, very convenient location. The original price is a bit pricy but I got excellent deal from online so I was quite happy.
Noise...i had a quiet room but it was quite noisy. Arrived on karaoke Tuesday, left side all the music noise, and right side the traffic noises... Wednesday the music is gone and much better. Regardless, on busy bar nights sleep sometimes might be problem.
Location is good. Staff obliging.
Room are located above a pub. This meant a fair amount of noise on the Friday night I spent in the hostel.
clean, comfortable, and fairly priced for these aspects.
wifi was slow.
Comfy beds and clean rooms, got a muffin and tea/coffee in the morning in a lovely café next door, good wifi, good location for downtown & gastown.
Showers are pretty much see through and no changing area for them, smelled a bit on the second floor corridor, can be loud at night but that's to be expected if you sleep above a busy bar.
I liked the location & the bar down stair, it's really clean & the beds are comfortable
It's cold, slight air of damp & due to it's size it's not very warming. I wouldn't stay again I preferred the St Clair cosy, friendly & cheaper
