There are a couple of places where you can eat in the very small community of Field but we did not try these as we wished to cater for ourselves. In order to buy anything more than the most basic supplies entails a journey to Golden, one hour's drive away. This is, however, a magnificent drive and gives one the opportunity to stop off to see the wonderful Wapta falls (150 metres wide and 90 metres high), where the Kicking Horse river plunges over a large cliff.
We were given what is essentially a spacious apartment with bedroom, bathroom (shower) and large sitting/dining-room looking over to the mountains and with well-equipped cooking facilities. Apart from the occasional train passing 150 metres away it was extremely quiet and peaceful. The proprietor lives next door and was most welcoming and helpful.
