Score from 487 reviews Very good
It was conveniently located in Old Montreal (close to Notre-Dame Basilica) and competitively priced.
We could hear traffic and loud visitors/people on the street all night (past 3 am).
You can't beat the location. Right in the center of the old town, you can walk everywhere.
The curtain had fallen down and was not repaired.
Good central location, everything close by walking distance. Staff was polite, though limited how much they could be helpful.
Very noisy room. Improper insulation for window air conditioner. You can hear amplified noise from street and nearby traffic. I could not sleep both nights I stayed. Washroom were very basic, no hand drying paper towel, poor light, no shaving mirror and poor ventilation. No slip resistant mats in bath tubs or washroom floors, lack of safety and caution. I asked for iron, the the staff on duty could not provide one.
I just wanted a cheap, no-frills place to stay while in Montreal on business. Casa de Mateo fulfilled this role very well. The room was a good size and the included kitchenette meant I didn't have to eat out for every meal. The restaurant served tasty food to the accompaniment of a Mariachi band, not everyone's cup of tea but giving good ambience. The staff were friendly and helpful and the wifi signal was reliable. I had to extend my stay by a couple of days and they allowed me to do so at a discount. The location is also very good, in the heart of old Montreal and just a stone's throw from the Basilique Notre Dame. There are a lot of restaurants nearby, and nearly everything else I wanted to see was within walking distance.
No ceiling lighting in the room meant it was quite dark in the evening. Breakfast was a plate with a banana, croissant, yogurt and slice of muffin, with a glass of orange juice and coffee. Fine for a couple of days but not for a stay of a week. Would have been useful for the kitchenette to have something to clean the dishes with.
The location was great if wanting to express the old town. The bedrooms were basic however comfortable.
We were offered free breakfast however when it came out it it had very visible mould.
Convenient location and good value for money. Newly renovated rooms with a comfortable bed.
No elevator in 3 storey hotel. Needed to ask for a hair dryer ( none in room)
Poor Wi-fi, only in the lobby area.
The room was clean and the bathroom looked like it had been very recently renovated.
There were almost never any staff present for any inquiries. Wifi didn't work on the floor we were staying on.
That is near to everything in the downtown.
I do not like that the front door is damaged, then all the nigth the door is closed but anybody could goes in. Many things are damaged, the toilette in some bathrooms, the door of the room do not lock pretty well.
The location is excellent and the price ok.
Bathrooms were adequate at best. Breakfast was disappointing, and older each day. Window a/c was noisy and difficult to regulate. Beds were hard and no daily housekeeping. Room amenities were lacking.
Location, food, staff, resturant
Small sized room, traditional door keys, activities in one room can easily be heard in another room.
The hostel was an afterthought they clearly aren't interested in
The location of this hotel is very good, just round the corner from Notre Dame cathedral.
But the queen-bed room is without charm (no cupboard, no drawers for your clothes) and the staff incompetent, if ever you succeed in finding them! The reception was almost always closed during our 3-night stay. We ate cake and stale croissant for breakfast for 3 days, and although we asked for bread instead, nothing changed. Too expensive for what you get in return.
Very friendly staff. Very clean room
We were never offered breakfast even though it was supposed to be included. The locks on the room doors are flimsy.
The location is great and the staff were helpful.
Broken toilet and someone accessed the phone number on my tablet to make a $13 phone call to Peru.
It was in old montreal
Shared bathrooms Lack of staff No elevator Non working wifi No soap in bathroom Low toilet paper Only lamp for lighting No cold water in kitchenette. And dripping faucet hard to stop... Need I say more!
pricing , broken bed & furniture , outdated decor
I booked this hotel on line and didn't receive the room I booked. First, the hotel didn't even have my reservation on file!!! Second, they charged me the same money for a downgraded room, which I had to pay for at the beginning of our stay! I think they do this so I don't see the room and walk right back
Great location, great breakfast & the most amazing Mexican restaurant to eat dinner!!!!!!
No blow dryer.....no coffee maker and no place to hang clothes although I was fine as it was only for two nights......
The staff are WONDERFUL! The breakfast is enormous!! The room was simply furnished but had everything I needed. Bonus kitchenette! The mattress provided excellent support similar to that of a Tempurpedic, not soft or saggy. Wi-fi worked without problems. An excellent location in old Montreal!
I opted for a room with a shared bath. The "nice" bathroom with the standard porcelain tub/shower was out of service my entire stay. The other bathroom shower had seen better days. The street is busy and noisy. I slept with the fan/air conditioner unit on every night to block sound. Next time I would definitely request a room in the back of the hotel instead.
We had a lovely stay in Montreal On the old Port area
It was clean. Location was great, in Old Montreal. Breakfast was included.
No lock on window. Window opened to rooftop stairway and roof where people can go out and smoke. No dead lock on door. Door did not shut very well. Had to slam it shut. No air conditioning. Didn't need it yet but for summer it would be needed.
Bathroom floor unclean, enough dirt behind door to indicate it had not been swabbed for years. Parquet floor in main room also unclean. Bed very hard. Not made up next day. Only one pillow supplied, had to request another. No facial tissues. Reception only open 10am to 5:30pm although times posted were 9:30 to 6:00, but receptionist very pleasant.
The location was very good Staff were pleasant, when they were there!
This hotel needs to get their act together, it could do with quite a bit of TLC. In particular, I have the following bits of feedback: 1. Someone needs to be at reception at all times or at least ensure that someone is available in the restaurant. There were people waiting 20 minutes + in the reception. 2. They need to sort out the wifi, it doesn't work. When confronted the staff about it they told me that it's an issue with my devices. 3. The rooms could do with a little bit of TLC and innovation, the TV was from the 80s! Not even had a remote!
