The hotel and grounds are stunningly pretty and it's obvious that a lot of thought and effort went into creating a characterful rural retreat. The staff are very helpful and pleasant, even though neither of us were very fluent in the others language. They did better in English than I did in French though! The breakfasts were lovely, the best we've ever eaten in an hotel.
Nothing really, though you need a car as the hotel is a couple of miles out of town.
The quietness, the wonderful and comfortable building, rooms and gardens (including a private river for swimming). Its location in the middle of the forest.
There is no restaurant for dinner, so you must go to Saint Alexis des Monts. The breakfast has no variety (for example, you cannot have milk), and is a bit short.
At first appearance, it seemed like a charming, well maintained retreat. The breakfast was good, even if it was near impossible to have ones coffee cup refilled.
Although the employee was passably courteous, the owner was downright rude, giving curt answers bordering on sarcastic. I was given the room on the main floor, where I could hear the party going on until nearly midnight, and then the kitchen noises early in the morning. The internet was spotty at best. I overheard another guest ask about it, and told that there was no problem with the internet. As I walked out the door, there was cable zigzagging the grounds as they were obviously working on it. The TV had only one channel, which I was told very curtly. I felt as though a schoolmistress had reprimanded me for asking. When I returned home, a week later, and discovered that my favorite shirt was missing, I called the Gite. They informed me that they throw everything away in 5 days and hung up promptly. They don't email, or call. I was prepared for the famed Quebecois attitude, even being French, but I had not expected this level of rudeness and insensitivity.
Our stay was great the place very well kept and very clean Mme Raymonde made fantastic breakfast.we stayed at the rustic room which was tastefully decorated the place was awesome we will definitely stay there again.
Wifi signal was weak and our cell phones had no signal but that was ok for us.
A lovely, unique, 'Hansel and Gretel' hotel with beautiful, fantastic gardens. Easy access to the national park. Large rooms with lots of Canadian nick nacks in them.
French speaking so if you don't speak the language its a bit of a disadvantage. Visited in June and there were many, many mosquitos. Personally I would have preferred a room in which I did not have to access it via the owners living space and hence disturb them watching tv. I felt like I was in their home, not at home. It may be different in high season.
The beauty of this place is amazing. The rooms are big and cozy. The details in the archetecture in every corner of this beautiful house is mind blowing. I want to come back for every season :)
Very special place for a weekend hideaway
nothing to note
We really enjoyed the fact that the bed and breakfast was nestled in the woods. It was very peaceful. It reminded us of home. We enjoyed taking a nice long walk. There was a beautiful flowing brook right in front of the hotel. The interior was truly impressive, all of the wood work. The lady owner was very pleasant but the male owner was not one for any conversation.
