They had someone at the desk 24hrs a day. Breakfast was included. It was a short walk to the downtown sights. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The prices were reasonable and they upgraded us without charge when a room became available. The front desk staff were friendly but seemed really flustered most of the time.

An attractive, well situated place. The rear parking was convenient. Desk clerks were pleasent. I have a damaged knee. Climbing stairs (no elevator) was a problem. The clerk, as I was leaving, noticed my walking stick and said that I could have been given a ground floor room. I did not ask for one When I checked in.

Very welcoming, considerate and helpful staff - really excellent. A simple older traditional building, clean and well decorated, good room excellent bathroom and comfortable bed, useful also to have fridge and microwave. Breakfast was simple but had all the basics - no cooked stuff and plastic jam portions, but good juice, coffee, selection of teas, mixed fruit, bread and muffins. Hotel is a little outside the centre but in easy walking distance - a diverse neighbourhood but attractive area near university, with interesting local shops, ethnic stores and cafes There's a fire station nearby, but not too many calls! Adds to the local colour, in any case

Very helpful staff and great location with easy access to downtown and the university. The bed was too soft which was the only downside to staying here.

We loved the spacious room with comfortable beds and excellent toilet/bathroom facilities. I especially loved the hand-held shower in the bathtub and the hair dryer in the bathroom. The staffs were very friendly and helpful. The Inn didn't have a lift although it was only 2 storeys of stairs up to the rooms. But after a whole day of walking to and from town, climbing up 2 storeys of stairs to get to the room could be quite a feat, especially for the elderly.

Great staff, clean and spacious room, within walking distance of the city centre (15-20 minutes), good wifi, adequate breakfast buffet included (cereal, toast, fruit salad, muffins, bagels, etc.) Bed was a bit small for 2 people, neighbourhood is a bit run down

Great price and not too far from downtown. The neighbourhood seemed a bit sketchy. Also the bathroom was a bit small (no bathtub in the room we had). I would recommend Commons Inn to someone on a budget and someone willing to drive - otherwise I would recommend them to spend an extra $50 to get closer to downtown and to be able to walk everywhere.

I booked the Commons Inn only because we tried to get downtown and all was sold out. The room was very small. If this was a business trip, then I think the room and location would be fine. Good for one person and if you are not planning on spending a lot of time in the room, then this would be a fine spot.

When we had to change our booking due to a flight cancellation the management were very accommodating and our reservation was held for us without cost. The double rooms were very small and the furniture filled the rooms!

We found the Commons Inn somewhat by accident, and I'm very glad we did! I love that it is not slick, but very homey. The staff were extremely friendly and kind, and the neighbourhood was close enough to downtown and campus so that we could walk where we wanted but it's also off the tourist trail. I will definitely stay here on future trips to Halifax.

The location was only 20 mins walk to the waterfront. very convenient to local shopping. The rates were reasonable. The hotel was an older building but well kept and comfortable. The staff especially on the front desk were outstanding. Very informative and helpful. Could ;not do enough for their guests. They offered an excellent complementry continental breakfast.

Helpful staff and comfortable room with good shower. Only a shortish walk to the main downtown area of Halifax. One slight problem is that there is no lift (elevator). The receptionist kindly carried my heaviest bag up two flights of stairs to my room and no doubt I could have asked for help getting it back down, but this may be a factor to some people, especially as there are steps up to the hotel entrance itself.

1) close to downtown and attractions and so we could walk instead of drive and good price to be have this important feature - these are the main reasons that we chose Commons Inn - as travelers of Nova Scotia and all around the coast, the cost and closeness to attractions were our primary reasons for choice of places to stay for the night 2) had all the necessary amenities 3) continental breakfast provided nutritional foods 4) staff very friendly and helpful 5) felt safe in the environment

The hotel has a charming decor. The bed was very comfortable. Hotel is still a 15-20 min walk to downtown. Hot water took a long time to heat up when taking a shower.

There was always someone available to answer any questions we had. The breakfast was limited, just what you would expect from a lower priced Inn, but acceptable.

Commons Inn is very convenient for exploring Halifax, a lovely city with a great deal to offer. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly. Rate was very reasonable. Rooms were a bit cramped and cleaning was sometimes unsatisfactory.
